It had been a few days since you found out you were pregnant, and you still hadn't told Shawn. It made you anxious, not telling him, but you knew how important this was to him and you wanted it to be perfect. It was just that normally you told each other everything, and this felt really wrong.

It was Sunday afternoon, which was usually when you and Shawn headed into Pickering for dinner with his parents. Even though Shawn was away, you still planned on going. Getting your things together, you and your comfy clothes got in the Jeep and got on the eastbound Don Valley Parkway.

It took about 35 minutes, getting off the 401 at Liverpool Road and heading into Pickering. You parked and knocked on the front door, only to be greeted by Aaliyah.

"Hey Y/N!" she pulled you in for a little hug.

"Hey, Al. How are ya?" you asked. The small talk continued into the living room, bringing Manny into the conversation until Karen called the three of you into the dining room for dinner.

Karen had made a lovely chateaubriand with roasted potatoes. Classic British people.

Dinner was normal, except you turned down a glass of wine this time. You guys talked about Shawn and the album, your career, and what's new with Aaliyah. Though this is what always happened, every Sunday, Karen was looking at you funnily all evening. Catching her eyeing you secretly, or tilting her head as you spoke, you knew something was off. You and Karen finished eating first, and she got up from her seat and looked at you.

"Y/N, can I talk to you in the kitchen for a sec?"

Confused, you rose from your seat, collecting your plate and following Karen into the kitchen.

"What's up?" you asked your mother-in-law, clearing your plate.

"Are you okay, sweetie? Is everything okay with Shawn?" she asked, growing concerned.

"Yeah, everything's great with Shawn. We're fine." you half-smiled, trying to seem normal.

She smiled back, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Alright, Y/N. Cut the bullshit. You know why I called you in here, honey," your heart sank as she stepped closer to you. "You have two options. You can lie to me and I'll know, or you can just tell me you're pregnant."

Your heart just about fell out of your ass. How the fuck did she know? You were too early on to be showing, and you made an excuse about not drinking because Ontario has zero tolerance for alcohol in drivers under the age of 25. What the fuck? Thinking about what to say, you couldn't lie to her. She already knew; there was no point.

"Are you pregnant?" she lowered her voice, stepping even closer and placing a hand on each of your shoulders.

At a loss for words, you looked down at your feet and closed your eyes, gently nodding. You felt like you could cry, overwhelmed with every emotion you could possibly be feeling.

"Oh, honey! This is wonderful. I bet Shawn is so excited!" she said as she pulled you in for a hug.

You pulled away, "Yeah, that's the thing. I haven't told him yet. He's away, and I-I want this to be special. But he needs to know. But I'm scared." you babbled.

Her face grew stern. "You have to tell him."

"I know. I will."

"No, Y/N. You have to tell him tonight. He deserves to know. God knows how long you've been hiding it."

Deep down, you knew she was right. Giving her another hug, you began planning it out in your head, heart racing.

You managed to push it out of your mind for a little as dessert hit the table, but you insisted on going home, even after Aaliyah begged you to stay to watch Miss Congeniality.

You drove home in a trance, fixated on the thoughts running wild in your mind. What would he say? Will he be happy? Excited? You knew he would take it well. You just didn't want him to take it so well that he felt the need to come home immediately. He needed this. He needed this album and you weren't about the take that away. You were going to call him as soon as you got home.

You parked underground and went up the elevator to your floor, unlocking your front door and getting cozy on the couch.

You gave yourself a little pep talk, preparing yourself for breaking the news to Shawn. This was huge.

The clock read 10:30 PM, meaning it was 7:30 where Shawn was. He was probably just finishing up dinner. Oh god. You picked up your phone and dialled his number.

You couldn't do it. You hung up after the first ring. Deciding you needed to see his face to tell him such big news, you grabbed your laptop, opening the FaceTime app and clicking Shawn's name.

The high-pitched ring sounded for about ten seconds until the screen read "connecting." You were freaking out. You felt like you might faint.

Suddenly, his face lit up the screen. He smiled, saying, "Hey, baby." You smiled back, and his expanded ear-to-ear.

Suddenly, you knew everything would be okay. Here goes nothing, you thought to yourself. This was it. Deep breaths.
