A killing game, a friend, hope, despair... you couldn't make any sense of it. The words rang through your head and you absolutely hated it. Why do they use the term despair so much, why couldn't they just use something a bit easier to understand like depression? And what's Monokuma and Monomi? You didn't understand the unfortunate situation you were in. You were the Ultimate Ghost, but you weren't really dead. It felt like you were see through, and everybody felt a chill go down their spine every time you approach them.

An outcast, already filled with despair. That's all you really were.

Until Hinata Hajime got the courage to talk to you.

One day, while you were on the edge of the beach underneath the shade of a palm tree, Hinata walked up to you. You were staring off into the distance, wearing a white kimono with that thing triangle thing that wrapped around your head.

     "Um..." He stuttered out.

You flinched. "A-Are You here to kill me?"

"No!" He said,  shaking his head. "I just wanted to talk to you."

     "T-Talk? ...To me?" You mumbled.

He nodded and sat down beside you in the sand. Why would he, someone who didn't know his talent, want to hang out with someone that had a pitiful talent you could look down on? At least you have a talent, he would probably say. His ahoge was drooping down and he looked at you, who was eying the ahoge.

"Um, why're you staring at my hair?" Hajime asked.

"W-Well... your ahoge.... i-it's drooping. I thought, that... you were feeling down... or something." You replied.

He shook his head once. "I just can't keep it up all the time."

"Well... then maybe you could use gel... or have... someone fix it... but, nobody's the Ultimate Hairstylist. I could fix it... if you want me to, of course..."

"Sure, if that's fine with you." He answered with a smile.

You couldn't believe he wasn't already backing away and calling you names. He had to be faking it, but his smile looked genuine. You couldn't read emotions that well, you were always by yourself. He was still smiling, and it confused you. Was he set up to do something? What was it that made your heart flutter? You gave him a weak smile, and you two parted ways.

The day after, he showed up again and reminded you about fixing his ahoge. You nodded, and toyed with his hair hesitantly, getting his ahoge to stick straight up. It wasn't that hard, so maybe he wasn't taking care of it on purpose. Maybe it was a waste of time when you should be worried about killing and dying and all that other despair stuff.

"11037 times I've looked around... suspiciously... to see." You told him.

"See what?" Hajime asked with a glass of orange juice in his hands.

"If anyone was watching me. They could kill me at anytime. Then I'll end up in Hell."

"Why will you end up in Hell?" Hajime asked.

"I'm an outcast, you see. With every small bit of torture and suffering, I'm being dragged down into the abyss of Hell. There, I'll live in piece, because everyone is torturing each other." You answered, a smile gracing your lips. Your words came out slow and mellow, even though you were talking about something way worse.

"I'd rather you be in heaven, so you'll be happy." Hajime answered truthfully.

You were shocked. "But people in heaven would say I don't belong there, but if I'm in Hell, at least I'll agree with them if they mock me."

Hajime shook his head in disagreement. "You belong in heaven, even though you're treated like an outcast! You were nice to me, even though you were skeptical at first, and you helped me with my ahoge. You deserve more than just to burn in Hell!"

"It's nice to think that someone disagrees with what I believe, but fate has already decided where I belong..."

"Let's promise." Hajime said. "Promise that we'll stick together and make it out of this alive, and that you and me will go to heaven."

You thought about it and slowly nodded. He was your only friend, and a dedicated one at that. You enjoyed his company, and smiled the first genuine smile you made ever since you got on this island. "I promise." And those words lead to your bright, hope filled future.
