Chapter 1: A New World
((this is where it's now the world of Akame ga Kill. Buckle up, loves! This is where things get good!))
"*singing* A whole new world!! Don't you dare close your eyes!"
"JOKER SHUT UP! I'D RATHER NOT BE FALLING IN TOTAL DARKNESS WHILE LISTENING TO AMERICAN CARTOON SONGS!!"
I don't care what you say, Morgana. That song is totally appropriate right now. Wish I could see his reaction, but those chains are still dragging us downwards, and it's so dark that I can't even see myself. Suddenly, I noticed the chains on my arms and legs tighten, and we started picking up the pace.
Soon, a similar door to the Velvet Room's prison appeared under us once more, and it opened up. The chains yanked one more time and threw the both of us inside. As Morgana screams suddenly turned to meows, I felt my back make impact with something, and another hitting my chest.
Getting up and groaning, I opened my eyes to be greeted with a closed off area. I guess I landed in an alleyway, or something. When I looked down, I saw Morgana again, but this time, he was back in his cat form. He got up, and yelped in shock.
"Why am I a cat again?! I just turned back to my Metaverse form for five minutes! FIVE MINUTES AKIRA!" Morgana wined, making me hit him lightly on the head. I put my finger to my lips.
"Quiet down. We have no idea where we are, and for all we know, we could be in enemy territory. For now, let's gather intel." I scolded the cat, making him nod. He jumped on my shoulder just like always, so he could be my eyes and ears. It's useful to have him in cat form, as he can relay information from other peoples conversations without making me suspicious.
As I walked out of the alleyway, I noticed something. Everything seemed a lot more primitive compared to Japan's society. It seems like this place was in the Renaissance Era. This was apparent by the clothing of people passing by, the lack of advanced technology and transportation. I noticed someone riding on a carriage. It was a girl with blonde, wavy hair, and a white and blue themed dress. She had a smile on her face while being escorted in her carriage. The guards on her sides wore interesting clothing, and strange weapons. The looked like guns, but primitive. This is the technology of this world, huh?
After a couple minutes, I sat down against a pillar, resting. Morgana went up to my ear and whispered.
"This place is apparently called the Empire, and we're in the capital, the Noble's area. Basically, we look like a foreigner who accidentally wandered into the Noble's area." Morgana reported, and I nodded.
"Have you noticed this strange feeling of fear?" I asked the talking cat, my eyes narrowing. Ever since I started wandering around, I noticed the citizens and the guards had a strange aura of creeping fear. I'll have to look into it later. Morgana agreed with me, and asked about our next move. "This aura, we should probably investigate it later, but I know what our next move is. Igor told me that this world is filled with distortion, and it runs risk of falling to ruin."
"If that's true and the country continues as is. . ." Morgana began, then his eyes widened at the realization.
"Yes, there's another Metaverse here, and for all we know, Yaldabaoth could be revived. We'll need to see if we can access the Metaverse in this world." I finished, clenching my fist at the mention on the God of Ruin.
"Yes, but not here. We're already attracting attention with our clothing, and we can't suddenly disappear out of nowhere." Morgana warned me, and I nodded in agreement. He was right. People kept glancing at me, as my clothes were foreign to them.
Pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose, I stood up and walked to a secluded alleyway, or so I thought. There was a guy who looked recently mugged, but I left him alone. I noticed he was out cold. Well, as much as I want to help him, I can't really do anything, and because he's not awake, I'm sure it's safe to check if the Metaverse existed.
Pulling out my Smartphone, I opened it up and scrolled my apps, searching for the icon with a red and black eye. I wonder how I'm going to charge this if there turns out there's no electricity in this world, and I'm pretty sure there's no phones. I heard my phone beep, and I found what I was looking for. The Metaverse Navigator, or Meta-Nav for short. Although I kind of figured I'd find it, I was still shocked. This was proof that the Metaverse did exist in this world, and that's not good. That means the entire population of the Empire has distorted desires.
"It's here, huh? You were right. Come on, let's see if we can access it." Morgana looked at me intently.
"But we don't know anybody who has a Palace, do we? Well, there's always Mementos." I replied, a little skeptical. Then I remembered the day where the Phantom Thieves entered Mementos for the first time. Morgana said we just needed to type in the keyword, "Mementos." As I typed it in, I grit my teeth, and braced myself. I pressed the "Enter" button, and felt the whole world rippling around me. I gasped in shock. This isn't good. If Mementos exists, then the possibility of Yaldabaoth being revived has greatly increased. Morgana meowed in shock as well, and we soon saw the world shape into something new.
The world had shifted into a color scheme of twisted red, black, and other monochromatic colors. Before, Mementos took the shape of a labyrinth of a Subway, inhabited by large Shadows that wandered the trainless tracks, twisting and turning to confuse any travelers who dare wander in the Metaverse. Here however, Mementos took the form of a large jail, with rows upon rows of jail cells, forming narrow paths that twisted and turned in similar ways to my world's Mementos. I could hear monstrous moans and groans in the distance, making me shiver. This place almost seemed like the Velvet Room, but the cages looked abandoned, broken, and, most importantly, distorted.
I looked down, and noticed I was still wearing my casual clothing, not my Thief outfit, and Morgan was still a small cat.
"Why aren't we considered a threat? And why are you still a cat?" I asked, darting my eyes back in forth, just in case a Shadow decides to jump us.
"I don't know! I think our Personas are still sealed away, as we lost our powers back in Japan. I also lost my Metaverse form as well." Morgana replied, a little ticked that he couldn't stand on two feet yet. I tried to gather power, my rebellious spirit, but I couldn't do it. I was still normal.
"We'll figure this out later. For now, let's head back to the real world. If we get attacked here, which isn't very likely, then we'll be defenseless. We still need to learn more about the new world we've landed in, as well. Our knowledge of the Metaverse should be sufficient for now." I suggested. Morgana nodded in agreement, and we headed towards the exit. Before we left, I looked back towards the distorted prison, and I grit my teeth.
Why? Why can't I be strong here too?
. . .
"Welcome back to reality. Thank you for all your hard work!" The Meta-Nav closed, and I looked outside. It seems not much time passed since we entered Mementos, an hour, at most. When I walked out of the alleyway, I noticed not many people were around. It was the afternoon, so what was going on? I would've thought there'd be more people at this time, getting something to eat. Oh wait. This is the Noble's area. They're probably all in their homes, eating food from their servants, if Noble's here have servants, that is. Sighing, I noticed Morgana's ear twitched. He heard something. Suddenly, I heard shouting as well. When I ran towards the shouting, I noticed a woman getting dragged towards a carriage with a cage, her cries of protests and pleas for help ignored by the guards dragging her. One of them had a wicked smile on his face, and I've seen that look before. The gaze of a rapist, which I encountered with Kamoshida. Growling, I saw tears running down her face.
"YOU BASTARDS OF THE EMPIRE WON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS!! SOMEBODY HELP ME!! MY HUSBAND DIED AT THE HANDS OF THESE MONSTERS!!" She screamed, causing one of the guards holding her to slap her on the cheek. My pupils dilated in anger, and an emotionless gaze crept up my face. I heard Morgan hissing. My days as a Phantom Thief would not let this go, but I shouldn't reveal my identity just yet.
I opened my bag that Morgana was sitting on, and pulled out a mask. It was a black and white domino mask that only covered the upper half of my face, and had eye holes cut out. It was completely identical to my mask as a Phantom Thief, down to each pattern. I made it when I was bored once, and it seems like it would come in handy now.
"Akira, what are you doing?!" Morgana asked, shocked. Nobody reacted, since nobody but me could hear his voice. I didn't answer, and slipped the mask on my face, and I felt all fear and anger leave me. What I felt instead, was confidence. Taking off my jacket, I used my time as a Phantom Thief to sneak behind the guards, unnoticed. I darted from shadow to shadow, keeping out of sight. I wasn't as quick as I was back in the Metaverse, but fast enough to remain stealthy. Morgana was still on my shoulder, begging me to stop. I still didn't answer, listening in on the guards.
"Shut it, stupid bitch! You knew what the ex-administrator did, and now the Prime Minister gave us orders to take you to him!" One of the guards yelled, slapping the woman again, making her cry out in pain.
"You know, he never said anything about bringing her to him untouched, so why don't he wave a little fun!" The second guard suggested, the rapist smile widening. He had a lecherous face, which was soon mirrored by his partner. I tightened my fists, and smiled. These guys don't even notice that I'm closing in on them!
"For all your screaming, we'll have to discipline you! And there's no one around to hear your screams!" The guard yelled, laughing and reaching for the woman. Her eyes widened in fear and despair, before they fell. She was accepting her fate, huh?
Before he could touch her, I dashed from the shadow, Morgana hanging on to the top of my head, and jumped on the second guard's shoulders. My weight made him fall over, and I kicked off the back of his head. His face smashed into the ground, causing him to yelp and get knocked unconscious. Before his partner could react, I did the same thing, except this time, I put him in a choke hold. While I wouldn't have been able to do this before, I trained myself to get a lot stronger and even taught myself my own form of a martial art, relying on sneak attacks and quick reflexes. When his face turned purple, I made sure he blacked out, not killing him. I checked both of the guards' pulses, and sure enough, they were still alive. I had a confident smile. It felt good to put rotten adults in their place.
I turned towards the woman on the floor, and she looked up at me. Her eyes that once showed that she had given up were replaced with shock and a tint of fear. After all, a boy with a mask on just saved her from her fate, whatever it was. I offered my hand to her, still grinning. She took it, tentatively, and I pulled her up. I noticed she was a woman that looked like she was in her late twenties, and was a little shorter than me. She had black hair styled into a pony tail off to the side of her head and wore a dress designed for nobles, which was actually extremely simple and not at all extravagant. It looked like it was designed for a housewife in the Renaissance Era, though I noticed it was torn in some places. Probably from the guards pushing her around.
"You okay?" I asked quietly, so she didn't hear my voice too well. She hesitated, then nodded. "If I may ask, what was that about? I was just passing by, and heard your screams. I'm, uh, not from here. I'm from a distant land, so I'm not familiar of this place."
"You. . .don't know about the Empire? Or it's treatment?" The woman asked me, shocked. When I nodded, she looked left and right, then grasped my right hand, looking into my eyes behind my mask. "This isn't the place to talk. When the Prime Minister finds out I wasn't captured, he'll send out more guards. Come, I know a friend who can shelter us, for now. They own a bar, so we can hide. I'm Ellen, by the way. May I request the name of my savior?"
While Morgana was scolding me, hissing at me, I looked at the woman's hands, then her eyes. After what I just witnessed, I wasn't sure whether to trust her, but one look at her eyes told me my answer.
"Just call me Joker."
//Time Skip By Akira Making Multiple Masks\\
We arrived at the place Ellen's friend was. The woman was panting from running and dragging me around the city, while I was perfectly find. Hey, running around a Palace and driving a cat car can build up your stamina. That, or it was all the soda and coffee I chugged down for energy in a Palace. We had reached an area that looked like the slums. The whole way, Morgana was scolding me and praising me at the same time for saving Ellen, scolding how I was reckless, and praising my technique, form, and stylish entrance when taking out the guards.
When Ellen caught her breath, she pulled me towards a large building, apparently this was the bar her friend owned. When the door opened, I heard a "Welcome!" and the ringing of a bell.
"Ah! Ellen! How are you! It's been quite a while since you visited! How's your husband?" A woman greeted her, her back facing us.
"Now's not the time. I need your help, Isshiki!" Ellen rasped out, making the woman turn towards her. She had long black hair, and wore a sleeveless dress with black leggings. You could tell she's middle class. She also wore glasses. For some reason, she seemed familiar.
When the newly dubbed Isshiki saw the state Ellen was in, she gasped, ran out from behind the counter, and hugged her. I watched this all happen, scratching behind Morgana's ears. I was still wearing my mask, as I wasn't sure whether I could trust this new woman.
"Oh my God! What happened!" Isshiki asked, shocked. Then she turned towards me, as I was still scratching Morgana, making him purr. "And who are you?"
"Isshiki, he saved me. He told me to call him Joker, and he's someone we can trust." Ellen reassured her, deepening the hug. Isshiki's eyes softened, and she turned towards me, bowing.
"Thank you, for saving my friend!" She said gratefully, bringing a warm smile to my face. This was what really made being a Phantom Thief worth it, seeing the hope on others reawakened.
"It's no problem, ma'am. I was just passing by, when I heard her cries for help. Speaking of which," I turned towards Ellen, while Morgana jumped on top of my head, "you haven't answered me yet. What happened? And what's with this place?"
Isshiki looked confused, until Ellen told her that I wasn't from here. She nodded in understanding.
"I'd like to know that as well." Isshiki added, sitting Ellen and I down on a couple of stools. I noticed that this place was oddly modern. It was still old fashioned, but it looked like someone tried their best to make it look like a café from my world. Isshiki went to make drinks and food for us, and when Ellen finally calmed down, she breathed out.
"Apparently, the Emperor has ordered my husband to be executed." I heard a plate crashed as Isshiki looked at Ellen, a look of shock on her face. She put her hand up to her mouth.
"Oh...oh God. I-I'm so sorry, Ellen. Shoui was a good man, he didn't deserve this!" Isshiki lowered her head in respect, and Ellen had a tear run down her face, but she wiped it away quickly.
"There must be something we can do! We don't know that he's dead yet!" Morgana tried to be positive, but I looked at him sadly.
"From the time it took for us to get here, he might have already been executed. I'm sorry, Morgana, but I think we're too late. Remember, while we couldn't save his life, at least we were able to save his wife." I muttered sadly, a grim look crossing my face. Isshiki looked at me and Morgana, then back to Ellen.
"Most likely, the Prime Minister manipulated the Emperor, just like always. He was charged with treason." Ellen continued, and when she saw my confused gaze, she explained, "As the name states, the Empire is controlled by a monarchy, under the Emperor. However, the Emperor is just a child, who is being manipulated by the Prime Minister, Honest, behind the scenes. The one truly in charge here is him. Anybody he doesn't like, he "advises" the Emperor to execute them. It's been like this for years."
The Prime Minister, huh? Wonder if he's anything like Shido. However, he seemed a lot worse. Morgana seemed to agree with me, as we both made eye contact.
"The Prime Minister most likely ordered his men to take me away, to serve as his next meal." When she said this, Ellen shivered, before continuing. "The guards were about to take me, and also rape me, right then and there, if it wasn't for Joker passing by."
I nodded, pushing my mask up my face. I bowed.
"It was simply me being a good person, looking out for the innocent." Ellen smiled, same with Isshiki. Then I straightened up. "How did the Empire come to this? From the way you put it, it seems like the entire Empire is corrupted."
"That's because it is." Isshiki cut in, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. She put a shot in front of Ellen, and put a glass of water in front of me (I'm still underage.) "The Empire used to be a place with limitless resources, the government just and the whole country was in order. However, when the child became Emperor after his parents died, the Empire suffered a major decline because of the Prime Minister. Because of him, everyone is suffering, and there's nothing but darkness and corruption. It's all so. . .so. . ."
"Distorted." I finished, making her nod. I looked down, and clenched my fists. I needed to take my mind off something. Taking a sip of my water, I went behind the bar, making Isshiki look at me. Morgana climbed up to the top of my head. Then I reached the small kitchen, and looked at Isshiki. "May I?"
Isshiki nodded, and I looked in the storage for any ingredients. It was like a fridge, but not at the same time. What I found was perfect for what I was going to make. I grabbed what I needed, and spread it out on an open space. I started out by cutting a couple onions with precision and speed, placing them in a pot when I was finished. I did the same for some garlic cloves I found lying around.
After figuring out how this slightly primitive kitchen worked, I began to sauté the two over a medium flame until they softened. I then placed some meat and a couple of spices I found earlier in as well. I noticed that Isshiki was watching me intently. I flinched a little, unsure of why she was staring. I wondered if I should add something extra, then decided against it, opting to do it how Sojiro taught me.
While I was still cooking, I heard the door's bell ring, indicating that someone has entered the bar. I stiffened.
"Morgana, go check if it's one of the guards. It's bad news if they show up here." Morgana nodded in understanding, then bounded off. I sighed, halting my cooking for a minute. This world was even worse then I thought, if I'm paranoid over this. It's even worse trying to blend in with the way I'm dressed. Thankfully, Ellen had gone upstairs to calm down, and Isshiki was watching me.
"Hiya Isshiki! I'm here for a drink!" A woman's voice called out to the black haired barkeep. At that moment, Morgana came to the kitchen to report.
"It's not an Imperial Guard. It's a blonde woman with short hair and revealing clothing. She looks like one of the inhabitants of the slums, if I'm being honest. But. . ." Morgana trailed off, and I finished it off.
"There's a feeling of an animal around her. I can feel it too. Remind me to look into her later." I asked Morgana, and he nodded. I paused my cooking again, and turned around to look at the newcomer. Like Morgana said, she was a young woman with short, blonde hair that framed her face and a curvy figure. Her clothes were extremely revealing, a black tube top, detachable sleeves, pants, boots, and a long white scarf that trailed down her back. She also wore a belt with an interesting design (which was weird, because she certainly wasn't wearing pants that required a belt) and it gave me a weird feeling when I looked at it. Almost like I was staring at a lion's face. Her golden eyes gave off a similar feeling. Shaking my head, I went back to cooking.
"Ah, Leone. How are you? Come for another drink? Hang on, I'll go get the jug." Isshiki smiled, then went past me to grab the largest beer mug I've ever seen. Just how much alcohol is she planning to give this chick?! I'm pretty sure that could kill someone, or completely waste them! I could hear the newly dubbed Leone clapping her hands together in excitement. Warning, we at the Isshiki Bar are not responsible for any injury, cause of disease, or death at this establishment. "I hope you have enough to pay for this drink."
"Don't worry! I got plenty for a beer and a meal!" Leone then proceeded to smash a bag onto the bar counter, making me flinch and Isshiki jump back. Morgana covered his ears because his ears hurt from whatever was inside that bag. Isshiki looked inside, then looked up at the blonde skeptically.
"Did you swindle someone again?" Isshiki asked, as if this was a normal occurrence. Wonder if I need to change this newcomers heart.
"What?! Noooooo! What do you take me for?! A crook?!" Leone yelled, jabbing her finger Isshiki. I noticed that she looked away for a minute. A deadpanned expression crossed my face, as well as everyone present in the room (including Morgana, excluding Leone). Is there something wrong with this woman? Leone took notice of me in the kitchen, then smiled and waved. "Hiya! I don't believe we've met before! I'm Leone, what's your name, masked hottie?"
Masked hottie? Really? Eh, whatever. I looked at Morgana strangely, and he did the same in return.
"He says his name is Joker. He's not from around here. His cooking skill is interesting. He got up earlier and asked me if he could cook something. He's been doing so, even when you got here." Isshiki informed Leone, making her nod.
"A man of mystery, huh? Well then, I'll get my usual, as well as whatever mask boy is cooking up in there." Leone had a smile on her face, tossing the bag to Isshiki. Said woman caught it with ease, raising an eyebrow at me. I nodded, telling her I was fine with it. Let's see how awesome Sojiro's teachings have made me at cooking. I finished up, then plated the dish with rice.
I placed it in front of Leone. It was a piping hot plate of, you guessed it, curry. I noticed that Isshiki's eyes widened at the dish. She seemed like she was reminiscing. Leone licked her lips, and lifted up her spoon, but before she could eat, Isshiki stopped her.
"Hold on Leone. . .Let me try this out. I make curry here too, so I'd like to see Joker's style." Leone pouted a little, but gave the spoon to the black haired woman. She scooped some up, then sniffed it. Her eyes narrowed, and she finally tasted it.
Isshiki, shocked, dropped the spoon. She held her hand up to her mouth. Was it horrible? Morgana went up to sniff the meal (Leone recoiled, because she didn't know Morgana was here), and looked at me, confused.
"It smells good, Joker. I don't know why Isshiki reacted the way she did. Is it not to her standards?" Morgana asked me, and I shrugged. I was just as confused as he was.
"S-sorry, Joker. It's not bad. It's actually rather delicious. It's just...I-it's nothing." Isshiki trailed off, then walked off, but I could've sworn she said something along the lines of "Is that you? So-"
"Well, that was weird. Bottoms up!" Leone then proceeded to shred the curry to pieces, downing beer at the same time. I didn't pay attention to her, I was looking to where Isshiki had went. She had went upstairs, where Ellen was currently resting. I could send Morgana up there, but I think they need their privacy.
"Woo! That was delicious! You're a good cook, Masky!" Leone complimented me, downing another beer. I sweat dropped. How is she still living? Isn't she wasted yet? How many nicknames has she given me?! Sighing, I shook my head, and walked away. I heard her giggling, and felt Morgana jump on my shoulder.
I walked upstairs, finding a hallway with two separate rooms, opposite to one another. Heh, reminds me of my attic. I found the room Ellen and Isshiki were in, and knocked on the closed door.
"I'll be in the room across. You don't mind if I sleep here, do you? I don't have any other place, and I'd rather not be on the streets." I asked politely. I heard shuffling in the room, but they didn't open the door. Instead, I heard Isshiki's mumbling.
"Of course, after what you did for Ellen, you're more than welcome to stay!" Isshiki reassured me, and I exhaled in relief. I had a place for the night, good.
The second rom was spacious, and there was boxes of supplies here and there. Seems like this was a partial storage. I found a random couch lying there. How convenient, I thought, and found a nearby blanket as well. Even more convenient. Just like Leblanc. Chuckling to myself, I got set up, taking my mask off and putting it back in my bag. While I'm grateful that Isshiki let me stay here, I'm not sure whether to trust them yet. For all I know, they can be corrupted on the inside as well. Though, I highly doubt that, with what I've seen from Ellen and Isshiki, but I have to take precautions.
"What do you think of this place so far, Morgana?" I asked the Talking cat, who had hopped on the sofa.
"This place is way worse than Japan. The corruption is literally everywhere, and the whole place is suffering as a result. You told me about those vision you saw when Igor contacted you, and if those are the everyday life these people suffer from, then the Empire is sure to fall to ruin. We need to do something." Morgana responded, his blue eyes hardening. I nodded in agreement.
"Yes, but what can we do? We have no access to our Metaverse powers, and while I can knock out a couple of guards, I can't take down an entire Empire full of them. For now, let's rest, and plan ahead tomorrow." I suggested, feeling tired. Being in a different world is tiring. When I got set up, laying down on the makeshift bed, I felt the feeling of sleep taking over me.
. . .
I was wandering around the Empire's slums, making sure to stay out of sight. I had left Isshiki's bar several hours ago. As much as I appreciated the place to stay, I couldn't burden her forever. It's hard enough to support yourself in a place like this, so I don't want to be a burden. Isshiki pleaded against me leaving, but I reminded her of Ellen, as she was now in hiding. Isshiki stopped arguing with me when I brought up several more points, but she was still sad about it. Ellen kept trying to give me something, but I always refused, until Isshiki gave me half of the money that Leone paid for her drinks and meal (which we both still think was swindled off a poor guy), stating that half of it was mine, as I made the curry. When I figured she wouldn't give up, I took it. Good thing too, I'm pretty sure yen doesn't work in this world.
Right now, I was walking around the marketplace, buying clothes and food to last the day. Thankfully, the amount I was given was a lot, so I didn't have to worry about running out any time soon. Surprisingly, everything fit in my small bag, which I didn't question, and neither Morgana. Really, the only clothes I bought were for sleeping, as I decided to wear my casual clothes when out and about for now.
While I was walking, I heard a commotion, and a bunch of grunts. Curious, I went to check it out, and what I saw made me sweat. Morgana's jaw dropped. What we saw was a couple of guards carrying a large amount of items that a blonde girl had recently bought. Just how many did she buy?! How are those guards' backs not broken?! I pray for their safety, even if they're corrupt. No man should suffer the weight of a girl on a shopping spree ((please don't hit me for saying that...)). I noticed that the girl was the one I saw when I first came here, the one in a carriage.
I also took notice of a boy with a short stature, wearing a tan sweater vest over a white shirt, black pants and brown, leather boots. He also wore leather gloves, and had a simple sword on his back. This is still the age of swords, huh? Combined with primitive guns too, it seems. He looked like a softy, and I felt like I was staring at a cliché Anime Protagonist (Futaba forced me to watch countless shows with her). His jaw was also dropped, like Morgana's, and I couldn't really blame him. Then I saw a nearby guard whisper in his ear, then pointed upwards. When I looked at where he was pointing, my eyes widened. In front of me was a large tower that dwarfed every building. A large wall surrounded the Palace, providing a strong fortification. I'm surprised I didn't notice it earlier.
The guard whispered a couple of more words to the brown haired boy, his eyes darting here and there, before pointing somewhere else. Once again, following his finger, I saw a wall. Lined on said wall were four wanted posters, which I could read. I guess this world uses Japanese Kanji too. This makes things a lot easier for me. Each poster had a different name and person, but apparently, they were all under the same group. They were called "Night Raid." Strange name. Phantom Thieves sounds way better. A group of assassins, huh?
"Hmmm, says they're charged with treason and murder of countless nobles in the Empire. From what we've seen, I guess they're on the side of justice." Morgana read, looking at me.
"That may be true, but who knows? They may be just as corrupted, and get a kick out of this. Remember that murderer we changed? He said something similar. If possible, I'd like to avoid them, and continue planning our next move here. We can't rely on anybody." I whispered to Morgana.
I then noticed a couple of guards carrying a package four times the size of themselves! How much does this chick need?! My jaw dropped at the sheer size. I better dig a grave. Those guards are gonna need them when this is over.
"Hey! You there! With the cat?" A female voice called out to me. I snapped out of my daze, and looked around. I found the same blonde girl waving at me. I pointed at myself and Morgana for confirmation, she nodded and beckoned me over.
"Yes?" I asked, slightly cautious. I made sure not to let it show in my voice. I should keep my guard up, and let hers down. I never know, in this place.
"You're not from around here, are you?" she asks. I shook my head, and she smiled. It seems natural, but I could see in her eyes that she's hiding something. She continued on with, "You look like you just got here. If you don't have a place to stay, why not stay at my place?"
My eyes immediately narrowed. Somethings definitely up. No woman in their right mind would ever invite a random guy to their home.
"You should accept, dude! Miss Aria is such a nice girl, you'll love it there! Her family is so kind, just like her!" The brown haired boy put his two cents in. I lifted my eyebrow at him, my neutral expression changing. I looked towards Morgana, and he nodded. This'll be a chance to see what it's like on the inside of a corrupt noble's place, if she really is distorted. Even if it is a trap, I'll keep my guard up. I'm pretty sure I can take down a guard or two. I'll just sneak out with my Thief skills if things get hairy. I'll play along, for now. . .
"Fine. . .Not like I have anywhere to go, and I can't refuse an offer from you." I replied, pushing my prop glasses up. I forced a small smile on my face, feigning ignorance. She smiled, and so did the brown haired buy. Nailed it! "By the way, my cat's name is Morgana. We thank you, Miss Aria."
"You're gonna love it there! I'm Tatsumi, what's your name?" The brown haired buy gave me a closed eye smile, sticking his arm out. Oh, you poor boy. You must be unaware of the place's corruption. So naïve. I stared at his hand. I can't just give him my real name. Then I remembered a name Futaba gave me if I ever needed a fake identity (that girl is way too prepared for the worst case scenarios).
"Good to meet you, Tatsumi. Just call me Amamiya. Amamiya Ren.
//Time Skip By Akira Secretly Stealing Some of Aria's Money\\
Not gonna lie, Aria's mansion was huge. Too huge. Expensive decorations lined the entire place, causing Morgana's eyes to glitter. I could already tell the talking cat wanted to steal some of these.
"What do you think Amamiya? Isn't it awesome?" Tatsumi asked, his hands on his hips and a smile on his face.
". . .Too big. . ." I replied, getting tired of looking at this mansion. Why do Nobles always invest in their homes? I prefer my attic over this.
"Aw, don't be like that, Ren-chan!" Aria laughed a little. Thank god she's using my fake name. I shivered a little with her calling me that. Ever since I stepped into this mansion, I kept getting this feeling of disgust. It only worsened whenever Aria talked to me, proving that something was up. Tatsumi was unaware of this, poor boy. Aria introduced me to her parents, who welcomed me with opened arms.
I still couldn't shake this feeling, so when everyone was asleep, I stayed awake, and looked at Morgana. We nodded, and got out of bed. I fished my Joker mask from my bag, and put it on. I opened the door to the bedroom I was given, and slowly walked out, not making a single sound. Morgana ran ahead of me, and I stuck to the shadows produced by the moonlight. Soon, I heard the sound of metal clashed together, and the distinct sound of tearing. What was it. I held my position for a little, keeping out of sight. When I heard footsteps leaving the area, I went ahead to investigate. Morgana located the scuffle with his scent, then gasped at a horrific sight.
On the floor was the body of Aria's mother, severed in half. Her arms were cut off, and her expression was clouded by her blood and her hair, which was also stained by blood. I could hear Morgana throwing up, as I looked at the body in shock. It was almost like she was cut by the world's largest pair of scissors.
Then I noticed something in her pool of blood. A journal I noticed she was carrying around a lot was just laying there. Curious, I picked it up, shaking the blood off.
"Joker?! What are you doing?! She's dead, and you're looking at her diary!" Morgana yelled, still in shock and horror. I couldn't blame him. Corrupt or not, this is murder. I don't think she deserved this, if she was twisted. She could've had a second chance, if I changed her heart and if she was somewhere in Mementos or had a palace. Then I opened the journal, and all of those regrets went away. Every entry made me seethe in anger. I showed Morgana when he had the courage to get closer, and he soon hissed in anger as well. We looked at the dead women in front of us, a blank look on my face, and rage on Morgana's. We both heard the sound of a struggle elsewhere in the mansion, and the cries of Aria's father for help. We didn't listen, though. if he's just like Aria's mother, then he deserves to die. Screw changing his heart! If this is what it's like, I might as well give him a mental shutdown! Disgusting. Disgusting. Disgusting disgusting digusting DISGUSTING DISGUSTING.
My fists were clenched, and Morgana nudged my leg. I looked down at the ground. Calm down. I'm a Phantom Thief. I'm a beacon of hope for others. I don't kill, I change their hearts.
"You calm, Leader?" Morgana asked, a tint of concern in his tone. I nodded back, a confident smile on my face. Suddenly, I heard someone shout "NIGHT RAID!" making my smile widen. So they're called that because they're assassins of the Night, huh? Interesting.
"I'm calm, Morgana. I'm sorry. I just had flashbacks. These guys really are rotten adults. Seems like we got a group of Assassins." I replied, smiling coolly.
"Hey."
"Want to make an entrance worthy of a Phantom Thief?"
//Outside\\Tatsumi had just watched the red eyed assassin of Night Raid slaughter almost every guard Aria's family has, along with a large man in a suit of full body armor with a large, red spear. Now, there was only one guard, who was guarding Aria. Tatsumi was ordered to hold off the Assassins, but was completely ignored by the black haired girl with red eyes, and killed the guard. When she was about to kill Aria, Tatsumi stepped in.
"Not so fast!" Tatsumi yelled, slashing his blade at the assassin, making her back away.
"You are not a target. There is no need for me to kill you." The black haired girl stated blankly.
"But you want to kill this girl, right? Assassin?!" Tatsumi yelled, placing an arm protectively over Aria.
"Mm-hm." The black haired girl nodded bluntly, making Tatsumi sweat at her blunt response. "If you get in my way, I won't have any other choice, but to kill you as well."
"I can't run away now, when Miss Aria's life is on the line!" Tatsumi declared bravely, pointing his blade at the assassin. A brave display, but the assassin raised her blade as well.
"Very well then." The red eyed girl readied her blade, releasing a large amount of killing intent. Her eyes hardened, and Tatsumi recoiled in fear. "Then I will send you to rest."
With Aria's life on the line, Tatsumi steeled himself for battle, and charged at the assassin, who responded in the same way. The two clashed, at a standpoint for a second. The brunette slid his sword down the assassins, swinging it in an arc. In response, the black haired girl front flipped over it, kicking Tatsumi's arm on the way down. With the opening, she plunged her blade into the buys heart. Tatsumi fell to the ground, making Aria scream. The assassin didn't react, still pointing her blade at Tatsumi's body.
Suddenly, Tatsumi stood up slowly, clutching the place where he was stabbed.
"So you won't come closer to me, even when my guard is down, huh?" Tatsumi asked, still straining to stand straight. The near death had him wobbly in the knees.
"I didn't feel the blade through your body." The assassin stated, cautious. Tatsumi then pulled out a stone totem from his shirt, a hole visible in it. The blade had stabbed that totem, protecting the boy's heart from the blade. After a moment of silence, the girl charged at Tatsumi, stating "Rest in pieces."
"Wait! If it's money you assassins are after, then let the girl go! She's done nothing wrong, she's innocent! This isn't a battlefield, no one else needs to lose their life!" Tatsumi pleaded, but the assassin didn't respond, continuing to charge, an emotionless expression plastered on her face.
Suddenly, the sound of glass breaking made the assassin stop, turning her head towards the noise. What she saw shocked her.
A window of the mansion had been shattered, not by a stray bullet, not with a foreign object, but by a person. They had jumped out, face first with their arms protecting them, and proceeded to twist his body. He was covering a lot of ground, getting closer to the fight, and his body was reflected by the moonlight. They wore a black jacket with some type of pants, and a white shirt. Most curiously though, was a white mask covering the top of his face, and the smile as if he had fun jumping out of that window. The assassins, Tatsumi, and Aria could only look in disbelief at that man who had just jumped out a window. What was surprising though, was the fact that he rocketed towards them at high speeds and great distance, a cat black and white cat with a yellow collar holding on for dear life on the top of his head.
To break his fall, he front flipped in the air and rolled forwards when he touched the ground. He had his head down, and he stood up, lifting his head. A confident smile was on his face, and a white and black mask over his dark, grey eyes. He had black, unkempt hair that stuck out here and there, and pale skin.
"Always wanted to jump out a window again."((I'm making theses a lot quicker with the 6000 word goal! I'm so happy! I hope you all enjoyed loves, until next time!))
