I got to school the next morning to find out the AP History Field trip was rescheduled because Mr. Finn's wife was in the hospital for some reason. So now we were sitting in first hour with a substitute and nothing to do. Oh and did I mention Tiffany was sitting in Oliver's seat?... again.
Which brings us here.
"So Kevin lives with you?" He asked turning in his seat to face me.
"Yeah." I drawed out.
"Is that not awkward?" He made a funny face.
"Why would it be awkward?" I ask
"You know... cause you two... did the dirty." He said wiggling his eyebrows. I felt all the color rush to my face and he started laughing.
"How did you find out about that?" I hissed.
"It was just a hunch I had. I remember we were still kinda friends after he moved and he told me about this girl, to be honest we all thought she was made up." He said laughing.
I dropped my head on to my desk and hid while he continued laughing. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket so I pulled it out to see a text from mom.
"You have an appointment today."
I sucked in a sharp breath and glanced at Oliver who had stopped laughing and had a confused look on his face. I looked around the room at all the people talking and decided no one would notice if I called her.
"Hello, aren't you in class?" She asked
"Yeah, but the teacher isn't here. Okay so when? After school?" I ask.
"During Lunch. Brad called and said he'd stay behind while his office closed for lunch and take a look at you."
"Wow." I say breathlessly.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"I just... I didn't expect it to be today." I say.
"Do you want me to go? Have you told the father? Is he gonna come?"
I glanced at Oliver again to see he had his phone out and was no longer paying attention to me.
"Yeah. I think I need you to come."
"So I take it you haven't told him?" She asked a little disappointed.
"Yeah... I've tried, it's just complicated." I say.
"Okay well when you get dismissed for lunch go to his office and I'll meet you there."
I said okay and hung up.
"You good?" Oliver asked realising I was off the phone.
I smiled and said, "of course." He gave me a toothy grin. "So," I say shifting my gaze to Dakota. "Are you two still together?" I ask and the grin fades into a frown.
"Yeah. We're just... I don't even know." He said shaking his head.
"What happened?" I ask.
"I told her I slept with someone while we were broken up and she's been mad at me since." He whispered awkwardly.
"You didn't tell her it was me did you?" I said feeling panic settling in.
"No, I told her is was just someone." I sighed, the mixed signals I'm getting are unbelievable.
"Oh okay." I say looking at the desk.
"I'm sorry, Hayden." He said. I looked up and met his eyes, his bright yet dull blue eyes, were so full of an emotion I couldn't figure out.
