Chapter 3

Kai POV
It's been a week since Adam told me his-er her... secret, turns out she's crossdressing so that she can be more of a 'knight in shining armour' type instead of another damsel in distress. I've been starting to look at him-er her... in a different light. I've started noticing that she moved more gracefully than the rest of us, as well as the way her eyes light up when she laughs and how nice her smile is... GAH! Snap out of it man! According to everyone else she's still a dude! Besides you can't just start falling for someone just cuz you learned something like that, it's stupid! Not to mention you already have your eye on someone, right? So don't go giving yourself whiplash letting your best friend turn your head like that. I yelled at myself mentally as I watched her and the petite lady she'd been paired with try to get a baby jewelpet to go to bed.
"Hey little one~ it's time for your nappies!" The petite lady said in a sing-song voice in a desperate bid to get it to rest.
"No! Not tired!-nya" It shouted shaking it's head. Adam placed a hand on the poor girl's shoulder and gestured with her head to let her do it. She knelt down in front of the small cat and asked,
"Ey, wanna 'ear a story?" It's tiny ears pricked up but it didn't show much interest, until she added,
"It's got a lo'a blood in it." We all stared aghast at her in response to this but the baby laughed and clapped.
"Tell me! Tell me!-nya" it shouted ecstaticly she laughed a big shoulder shaking laugh and made sure they were eye to eye and said,
"Alright but only on one condition." It inclined it's head in confusion before she continued with,
"You 'aveta lie down first, yeah?" It nodded vigorously before she picked it up and brought it over to the bed area and layed down next to it with her arms behind her head.
"Now'en you rea'y?" She asked looking out of the corner of her eye. The baby nodded and she grinned before starting her story.
" 'nce there was a small village, an' outside tha' village there lived w dragon, gian' wit' green scales an' teeth the size o' buildin's. Now 'nce a week the villagers'd send some'ne to the cave as a tribute to the dragon so tha' it wouldn't eat em all. Now I 'now what you're wonderin, 'why didn't anyone just slay it?' Well it's simple, plen'y tried to, bu' none o' em su'vived." The petite lady gasped and placed a hand over her mouth exclaiming,
"Gracious!" All Adam did was place a finger on her lips winking as a cheeky grin spread across his-er her... face. The girl blushed and nodded timidly.
"Now where was I? Oh right, none o' em su'vived. One day a travellin' swordsman wandered into the village and learned o' the dragon. They went up to the village's leader and removed their 'ood declaring tha' they would slay the dragon, the village was ecstatic 'til the 'ood hung 'round the traveler's shoulders revealing a woman with hair like a wildfire, green eyes that were as wild as a stallion an' lovely skin pale as moonligh'. She beat all the best swordsmen remainin' in the village to prove her abili'y then hea'ed offta the cave to slay the dragon." Everyone in the room listened spellbound by the strange tale of the swordswoman and the dragon.
"When she go' to the cave she didn' waste 'ny time drawin' her sword. She quietly snuck in and made sure no' to wake up the dragon who was fast asleep. Bu' jus' as she was about to slay the beast she kicked a rock an' the dragon reared up enraged tha' someone woke it up." There was a collective gasp at this and we all waited with baited breath for the rest of the story but instead she just said,
"Well, I think tha's a good place to stop." Earning a groan from some of us in the crowd and a cry of disappointment from the baby.
"How's 'bout this, you get some rest now an' I'll tell ya the rest tomorrow, yeah?" The baby looked slightly suspicious and Adam held out his-er her... Pinky and added,
"Swear it." The baby nodded and followed suit, sorta, and said.
"Pwomis-nya." With that the bell rang and her and her partner turned to leave the stage when Adam slipped on a stuffed toy and fell off the stage. I rushed forward and caught her. Time seemed to stop for a moment as I just stood there holding her bridal-style. My heart rate increased in spite of itself and I couldn't help but notice the clear blush that spread across her face. I was snapped back to reality however when her shocked blushing face turned to a scowl and she gruffly demanded,
"Down, quick as ya like." My eyes widened as I all but dropped her. She fixed her collar then waved declaring that she was alright. I watched her toss the toy she'd stepped on, which had apparently made the trip along with her, back onto the stage in a safer place than it had been before. She turned to me and slapped my back saying,
"Your up mate, break a leg." I rolled my eyes and headed up there to meet my partner, a gorgeous blonde girl named Alice who happened to be at the top when it came to the petite ladies.
Adam POV (play the song now.)
I made my way to the back of the room and leaned against the wall. I placed a hand against my chest in hopes of slowing my heartbeat. I wasn't going to lie, now that he knew my secret I'd started allowing myself to fall for Kai and frankly I fell fast and hard. I turned my head to watch him and Alice up on the stage. As I saw how calmly and easily they interacted I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. I pushed off the wall and walked out.
