da Vinci
As Amina waited in the hallway by the gym, she twirled the end of one braid around her finger. She was bored. Nick said he'd meet her here at three, and it was already three o'four. She hated waiting ever since she was a little kid, and even now Amina had no patience. When Nick finally came out of the gym, he smiled at her.
"Hey! So you worked everything out with your parents and stuff?"
Amina nodded. "Yeah. I'll just text them when I'm on my way home."
"Awesome! So the guys are gonna meet us at the park. You ready to go?"
Nick couldn't help but chuckle a little when Amina only nodded. She was a girl of few words, but Nick kind of liked it.
Amina wasn't surprised that Nick's car was a range rover. Both the inside and outside were spotless. Amina knew from the second she slid into the passenger's seat that Nick had money. Almost everyone in their town did.
The drive to the park was short and sweet. Amina respected the fact that Nick didn't listen to the basic trashy pop songs on the radio. Instead they listened to 90's R&B the entire car ride. She smiled when Nick started singing softly under his breath.
"Do you sing?" She thought it was a dumb question, but he smiled anyways.
"Um, a little. Not officially, though. Singing isn't my thing, dancing is."
"My baby sister dances. What kind do you do?"
Nick chuckled, parallel parking near the entrance in the park. "Mostly hip hop, tutting, freestyles. I also like doing the cheesy 90s boy band choreography."
"Ooh, I definitely need to see that."
The two laughed as they walked side by side into the park. Amina thought they were wandering aimlessly until she spotted a group of boys that hollered as she and Nick came closer. She knew one of the boys was Zion, just by his sheer height. When they finally reached the group, Nick went down the line, dapping people up. Amina stood there awkwardly, looking down at her close toed shoes.
"So, guys," Nick cleared his throat. "This is Amina. Amina these are the guys! Edwin, Austin, you already know Zion, and then Brandon."
For the first time, the boy with glasses looked up from whatever notebook he was writing in. Amina felt her cheeks heat up as she realized exactly who it was. The one time she attempted to make new friends, she had to come face to face with pretty boy. Brandon was his name. She wasn't sure if she liked that better or not.
The shortest boy, who Nick introduced as Edwin, took Amina's hand and placed a kiss on the back of it. She thought it was corny as hell, but the action still made the blood rush to her face anyways.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Amina." He said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you." Amina didn't really know what to say beyond that. She didn't really know what to say in general. This was all so new to her. It was weird. She missed Zane. She missed familiarity.
The rest of the boys gave Amina various waves and small greetings. She was surprised pretty boy, Brandon, hadn't said anything to her. He barely gave her a once over before turning back to his notebook. Amina wondered what could be that important.
"What are you working on, B?" Nick chimed, taking a seat on the grass. Amina followed suit.
"Just a new sketch. I don't have my full size book, so I'm doing a small one now. I'll do the real thing on my easel at home."
