Valentine's Day is a lot different when you're in love. Amina found that the red and pink cloaking her school's hallways wasn't as oppressing as she thought it was last year. Now it just made her smile.

Amina opened her locker and smiled at the pictures adorning the inside. She looked down at her favorite, the one of her and her boyfriend taking a selfie in front of the whale shark tank at the Camden Aquarium. Warmth flooded the pit of her stomach.

Amina was snapped out of her love-induced haze as her best friend waddled (yes, waddled) over to her locker. Amina gave her a once over and snickered.

"Did Zion do that?"

Zane scoffed. "Shut up."

"I thought you said you were done with him," Amina continued while beginning to gather her books for the day. "This is what, the third time you've broken up since New Years? Either call it quits or stay together, but this? This ain't healthy."

"I'm sorry not everyone can have a sweet, sensitive, artist boy who caters to their every want and need. Zion's just a headass. He's stubborn and annoying, but so damn cute. The dick too. The dick is amazing."

"Zane," Amine whined, closing her locker and facing her best friend.

"I'm sorry, but it's true!"

The two were interrupted by a third party approaching with a wide smile on his face.

"What's true?" Brandon asked when he finally reached the two.

"It's nothing."

Zane rolled her eyes as the couple greeted each other, complete with a long hug and a kiss on the lips. Even after they parted, Brandon's hand remained on Amina's waist, just smiling down at her.

"Happy Valentine's Day," he whispered.

"Happy Valentine's Day," Amina repeated.

Zane just rolled her eyes, needing space from the sickeningly sweet couple. With a wave that she was sure they were too wrapped up in each other to see, Zane left, waddling down the hallway towards her first period. With the dull ache between her thighs, she knew she was going to be late.

When Brandon and Amina let go of each other, Zane was a distance away. Brandon just softly held Amina's hand in his and began walking her to her first period class.

"So what's the deal for tonight?" Brandon asked. "Are your parents okay with us going out around dinner time?"

Amina nodded, having worked the details out with her parents a few nights prior. "Yeah we're all good. I'm sorry to ruin the spontaneity of it all. You just know how my parents are."

"You didn't ruin anything, baby."

"What about the guys, though? Don't we have the tradition? It is a Friday after all."

Brandon just shrugged. "We might have the tradition. But we do that every week. Valentine's Day comes once a year, so I'm gonna use any opportunity I have to show you how much I love you."

"Oh?" Amina placed her hand over heart in mock surprise.

"Don't be like that," Brandon chuckled. "You know I've been waiting for this for a while."

"Then it better be something memorable, Arreaga. I expect complete creativity." Amina teased.

"Nothing but the best for my girl, mi princesa."

Amina just smiled, leaning forward on her toes to place a kiss on Brandon's cheek. Even after months of dating, she had trouble grasping how sweet he was. Brandon made it clear from the get-go that he would do anything for Amina, something he proved more and more each day. He was so affectionate, however, that sometimes Amina has trouble keeping up.
