"He doesn't even put the pictures up anymore, Stiles. How am I suppose to remember if he doesn't keep pictures of her around the house?” Lila questioned her older brother as she stared out the front window to the neighbor's house across the street. The Johnson’s dog was chasing a squirrel around the front yard. "It's hard to remember something when you don't have any reminders of it." Lila continued as she spun around to face her brother who was waiting on her to finish so that they could go to school. The first day of their sophomore year, and the first time Lila wasn't wake at 3 am from nightmares. That may have been a result of sleeping pills, though. She gave the same speech every year too, and Stiles did agree to a degree. Their mother was kept alive through photos and their father kept them from them ever since her passing.
"Come on, Li. We have to stop by the hospital on the way," Stiles soothed as he put his arm around his sister's shoulders and led her to the front door. Lila's hazel eyes watered at the word hospital and Stiles sighed quietly as he realized what he caused. "Don't give me that look. You know we have to do this, it's how I know you are okay." Lila just shook her head as she sped up and opened the car door, just to climb inside and slam it back shut. She knew it would make Stiles feel guilty which only made her want to do it twenty more times. She knew her brother was just being paranoid but she always tried to tell him she was fine, which she was. Nothing had become a trigger over the summer but that was likely to change once school started back up.
"I've told you a million times, Stiles. I am perfectly fine and I've been taking my medicine. Nothing is going to happen." Lila hissed as her brother got in and gripped the steering wheel tightly. Their almost identical eyes burned into one another before Lila sighed and ran a hand through her now light blonde curls. "I'm sorry, twin. I just hate going at listening to them tell me how unhealthy I am and how the way I act can cause even more problems. It does hurt, ya know?" Lila sighed as she pulled the sleeves of her best friend Jackson's old sweatshirt down uncomfortably. It felt like eyes were burning into the side of her head and she knew that it was Stiles would was doing it. He hated when she would wear Jackson’s things around since the Lacrosse captain hated Stiles but loved Lila.
"I'm sorry," Stiles told his sister as he backed out of the driveway and sped down the highway. "Just cause I love you, okay?" He soothed as Lila rolled her eyes and turned up the music. The two rode in silence, not including Shawn Mendes blaring from the speakers, until Stiles pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. “Look, I won't even go to your normal doctor. How about we just have Melissa look you over?” Stiles questioned the sixteen year old as she rolled her eyes but nodded. Melissa McCall was practically her second mother. She was the only one there for the twins when their father began drinking heavily. He had slowed down now and the family was slowly coming back together but still. Melissa knew exactly how Lila felt about seeing a doctor and she’d make it easier.
“Hi, Melissa. Can you look me over and make sure everything is fine so that I can leave?” Lila smiled politely at her brother’s best friend’s mother. Melissa chuckled before motioning her over and away from Stiles. Pulling Lila into the ladies room, she asked the standard questions before checking her ankle for anything new. “I'm clear, right? The sixteen year old asked as Melissa ran a hand through Lila’s bouncy curls. She didn't bother doing anything different to her blonde locks today. It wasn't like she needed to do anything. With a small sigh of relief, Melissa nodded without hesitation. Lila having so much stress and anxiety, made her worry about the smarter Stilinski twin. The girl didn't seem to know what was too much for her.
“Yeah, you are clear. I'd stop tugging on my hair, though, if I was you.” Melissa teased as Lila released the lock of her hair. With an apologetic smile, Lila made her way back to Stiles who was nervously tapping his foot. “She’s clear, now go to school. Scott said he had something important to tell the two of you.” Melissa hugged Lila goodbye and patted Stiles on the back. She was a bit more hesitant on treating him like her son. He was best friends with her actual son, after-all. Lila is best friends with Scott too but it is different because of the fact she is a girl and she needs a mother figure in her life. Especially now that she is in high school and is beginning to have boy drama.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you that I snuck out last night.” Stiles spoke casually as his twin opened the passenger side door of his jeep. Sighing, she rolled her eyes before looking at him in a way that meant she wanted to know exactly what had happened. “I went to Scott’s and we went to find the other half of the body. Dad caught me though and gave me a long speech about how I shouldn’t listen in on his phone calls. Scott didn’t get caught but apparently he got bit by some kind of animal.” Stiles was ramblinging to his younger sister who meerly nodded in response to what he was saying. Lila couldn’t really bring herself to care considering how often the two boys got into trouble. She was concerned for Scott though, there were dangerous animals in the wood. He could be seriously injured.
