1.    A Lemniscate amount of bravery

"Ebony, I want you to tell me what happened to you at Alcheringa" the nurse said.

I simply nodded and opened my mouth to tell her what happened to us last July...

"It was a piercing and numbing Winter- cold July and Adalyn decided we should go on a secret trip to the cabins up South where It had begun to snow, and the wind danced at its hardest. The school year had finally ended and we both wanted to escape our life at Avalon Uni. As we arrived at the cabin, the snow had begun to fall making it harder to make our way up the mountain. The cool frosty winter wind lifted strands of my hair into the wind and swirled it like ink in water.

After a few minutes, our car had been covered in snow and we had made it to our cabin where it sat in isolation in a deep frost of white. We closed the door behind us and the smell of sharp wood sliced around the room like the angles of a square. We were so happy to be away from all the drama of University and we couldn't wait to spend the week in the isolated cabin away from the noise and drama in the city. The next morning, Adalyn convinced me to go to the club which was an hour from our cabin.

The snow became heavier, it was like mud getting thicker and thicker and it just wouldn't stop falling like leaves in Autumn.

We entered the bar, there were a lot of people inside and we were greeted with warmth. Adalyn and I separated from each other because we started to get ourselves a drink. She had started talking to this young man called Hunter while I sat on the couch and drank some beer. After a few hours, Adalyn came over to me with Hunter and introduced him. I could tell she liked him. He invited us back to his and we said yes. But when we entered his dusty cabin, he locked the door behind us. He pointed a gun at us and we backed away into the corner, frightened. Adalyn, was brave and she knocked the gun from his hand, it skidded to the ground and I picked it up and pointed it at him. But he grabbed Adalyn and started to strangle her, and he pointed another gun at me. I stood there unsure what to do. If I did nothing, I would get shot but if I tried to shoot him, I could accidently shoot Adalyn. Adalyn's face was quiet and frozen like the timeless eyes of a statue and her eyes were rolling in the back of her head. In inhumane speed, I saw his hand come to the trigger and I shot him. All noise was blurred out and I saw Adalyn collapsed to the ground and I saw the blood and just blacked out to the sound of the loud thumping of my heart. When I woke up I was in hospital. "

"How long have I been asleep for?" I asked the nurse.

"2 days sweetie, you girls hadn't eaten or slept in a while and were very close to getting hypothermia" she shook her head.

"Where's Addie?" I sat up quickly and began to look around. 'She must've gone home' I thought.

The nurse averted her gaze and the policemen shifted in their seats. "she passed away yesterday" she whispered.
