After another exhausting day of work, Angela collapsed onto her bed with a groan. Not caring about her image, she rolled over and stared up at  the ceiling, strands of hair coming out of her usually tidy bun and framing her pale, delicate face.

She grimaced, sitting up and massaging her feet. Even though she was mostly sitting during her job, wearing those three-inch heels really wasn't doing any wonders for her foot pain. Unfortunately, as a secretary, she was required to always keep a neat and elegant image.

Although she wasn't sure why an elegant image mattered, when she thought of a cute, happy-go-lucky, girl-like secretary bouncing along behind her stone-faced boss, she couldn't help but cringe.

Well, it really was better that "elegant" was a requirement, otherwise unimaginable horrors would be rained down upon any sweet and naive girl who thought that her fast promotion was great luck.

Looking around her small apartment, Angela caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror hanging on the wall near the door to her right and sighed as she went to the similarly small bathroom to wash off her daily makeup and brush out the knots that were sure to appear in her unruly black hair.

Despite being of Chinese descent, her straight hair was quite disobedient. Sometimes she wondered if it had a mind of its own that took pleasure in frustrating her whenever she returned home.

Many times she had considered simply cutting it off short, but then she'd brush it out as she thought and lose herself in the relaxing sensation. Every time, she'd change her mind before she even took a step out of her apartment. She loved her long hair too much, despite the annoyances it brought.

After cleaning herself up, changing out of her work clothes, and into a much more comfortable oversized T-shirt and shorts, she made herself a simple meal of rice and a veggie stir fry from oyster sauce, garlic, and a mixture of leftover veggies from her grocery trip earlier that week.

As she ate, she took out her phone and checked her bank account, eyeing the slowly growing numbers before leaning back in her chair and throwing her arms up as she exultantly shouted to the ceiling, "ALMOST THERE!"

Soon after, one of her neighbors pounded on the wall behind her, yelling back, "SHUT UP!!!"

Snickering slightly, she finished up her meal as she silently rejoiced that soon, very soon, she'd be able to retire at the young age of 27, return to her parents' small home in the country, and live the peaceful life she'd always desired.

That's right. Even though Angela was quite successful, becoming a big boss' head secretary at a young age, she was perfectly willing to sacrifice her high-paid, widely coveted job to return to a peaceful life where she didn't have to micromanage every aspect of someone else's life. She wanted to be able to live without a care, gardening and caring for her aging parents.

Making a family of her own? Having kids and a husband? Those things were for her older sister and younger brother to worry about! In fact, her older sister was long married with a baby coming, while her brother had been engaged for the past three months.

In other words, there was no need for her to perform her filial duty by passing on her family's blood. After all, her brother and sister were already doing that for her! Not only that, but her parents had already approved her life plan, though somewhat reluctantly, so there was nothing to stop her!

She brushed her teeth, grinning at herself in the mirror happily, then skipped to her lovely, lovely bed to sleep the day's annoyances off. Tomorrow, she was sure, would be much more pleasant.
