"Mom, we're not supposed to study, we just have to sit there and do nothing."

BETTY
IT WAS A SATURDAY, and Mr. Weatherbee was making her go to school.
Betty Cooper frowned as the car came to a slow halt by the steps of Riverdale High, staring out of the tinted window with no intention of moving from her seat. "I did nothing wrong, Daddy."She reasoned with him, quickly whipping around to face her father. "I couldn't possibly have affected someone's well-being by going shopping!"
Cheryl Blossom was the queen of seasonal sales, and so whenever there was a discount in a fancy store, she'd be the first to hear about it. Last Thursday there was a twenty-percent sale in the Louboutin shop an hour outside of town, and Cheryl made sure to drag Betty along with her-thus the reason why the perfect girl next door was spending a whole Saturday in school.
"You didn't do anything wrong, Elizabeth."Hal Cooper told his daughter, a smile of reassurance gracing his lips. "Nevertheless, it doesn't change the fact that you skipped your classes. You have nothing to do for today, anyways."Betty was about to open her mouth to tell her father that she had mountains of homework that needed to be done by Monday, but wasn't able to speak due to her father.
"Besides, detention is better than having to face your mother about this."
Ah, yes, her mother. The one and only Alice Cooper, infamous for her temper and unquenchable thirst for perfection. Betty didn't hate her mother, but she didn't love her either. She disliked her, that's all. Her and her way of raising her daughters and her unattainable standards and expectations.
"Look, Betty darling,"Hal sighed, looking at his daughter very carefully. "I'm not mad at you, okay? Not even a tiny bit."He added and Betty nodded in response. "Yes, daddy. I know."She said. "I may not be angry, but your mother is. Let's not encourage her bad temper more, it'll be a waste to see all those weeks of anger management go down the drain."
Betty decided to keep her mouth shut as she got out of the car and walked up the steps of Riverdale High.
KEVIN
FOR SOME REASON, KEVIN was thankful that he was given detention.
The whole ride to school consisted of him keeping his mouth shut and his father rambling on and on about how he had been so irresponsible, calling him out for things that Kevin wasn't even sure he did. "We've talked about this dozens of times, Kevin! Keep your nose in your books and not in someone else's business!"His father, Tom Keller, was the town sheriff.
Kevin knew better and kept his lips sealed, accepting all of his father's words with a nod and processing them in his mind. This was the first time he had gotten detention, and his father was certainly not pleased to hear about it. "You're different than all those other kids, Kevin. You're smart, so why did you choose to do what you did and get yourself into detention? You know what, nevermind."His father parked the car on the other side of rhe road, across the school.
"Don't even think of wasting your time in there, boy. Pick up a book and study."
"Dad, it's detention."Kevin replied, his voice strained with forced respect. "We're not supposed to do anything but sit-"Clearly, his father has had enough of him and his talking, because he didn't bother letting his son finish with what he was saying. "Do I look like I care? Find a way to study!"He scolded.
"Now is this gonna be your first or last time you do this to me?"
Kevin gulped and cowered in his seat, avoiding his father's hard stare. "Last."He mumbled under his breath, his fingers crossed behind him where his father couldn't see. He was probably going to get into more trouble in the coming days, and he wouldn't be surprised if he'll wind up in detention once again the following Saturday.
"It better be."
Kevin pushed the door open and walked away.
JUGHEAD
JUGHEAD WAS USED TO spending his Saturdays in detention.
Jughead Jones had parked his motorcycle by the sidewalk of Riverdale High, the hum of its engine interrupting the silence of the streets. It's been four weeks since he's gotten detention, and before that, he had it nearly ever single week. For a while, he actually thought his behavior was improving. And if he was being honest, it really was.
He sighed and stared at the doors of Riverdale High, unsure if it would be better if he waited outside until it was nearly time for detention to start, so he could see who else was spending detention that Saturday with him.
But when he saw the Andrews' truck speeding down the road, nearing the school, he quickly killed the engine of his motorcycle and hopped off, rushing up the steps of Riverdale High.
ARCHIE
ARCHIE SAW JUGHEAD RUNNING up and into the doors of the school, and he immediately realized that he would be having one of the worst Saturdays of his life.
"Was that Jughead I saw earlier?"Fred Andrews, Archie's father, asked him as he pulled up by the front of Riverdale High, turning to face his son who was putting on his letterman jacket. Archie, not knowing what to tell his father that moment, nodded his head instead. "Uh, yeah. That's his ride right there."He said, gesturing towards the black motorcycle parked near them.
"I mever really understood what happened to you two."Fred sighed, watching his son gather his things and stuff them inside his backpack. Archie hated having this conversation with his father-about Jughead, and their friendship that had died years ago along with the Jughead that Archie once knew.
"For starters, he's a Serpent."Archie replied. "He doesn't deserve my respect ever since he put on that jacket that he thinks makes him all high and mighty. He's not worth my time."Archie wanted to understand Jughead, that he didn't want the life that his father laid out for him, but at the same time he was pushing him away, and immediately Jughead caught up and pushed him away too.
Fred sighed at his son's answer, deciding it would be best not to keep up with that topic. "I don't think detention's worth your time either, son."He said, suddenly changing the topic. "I know how much you want a football scholarship for college-having a flaw in you student record might just make you fall short."
"I know, dad. That's why I'm going to make things right again."
Archie opened the door and got out of his seat, his hands in his pocket as he walked into the front door.
VERONICA
THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE that she could think of doing on a Saturday.
"Thank you, André."Veronica Lodge smiled at the family driver as she opened the door and, black Prada purse in hand. She had worn her cape to school, figuring it would do for a nice pillow or blanket. With her father practically begging to go to jail once again and her mother helplessly watching him do it, the last option there was for Veroncia was to give in and attend Satuday detention.
As the sleek black car drove further away from Riverdale High, Veronica Lodge stared up at the red brick building in front of her, towering over her.
Her heels clicked against the granite as she slowly made her way into Riverdale High.
