“Lavric! You know we are not here for any funny business. Father will be here soon and if he sees yo-” Areia said before getting interrupted.

“He won’t be mad its a simple ‘nice to meet you’ gesture sister, you are only jealous I did it first.” Lavric replied with a smirk. Who did they mean by father? Why would he be coming here to my house? And why would she be jealous? Twenty minutes went by in which time everyone told me their names. Then the front door down stairs slammed shut.

My heart raced as I heard the footsteps of someone coming up the stairs. A man maybe in his mid 40’s approached the bedroom door, stopping to stare at me. I was sitting down on my floor in front of my closet door.

“ Hello child, did they hurt you? They can be a little handsy at times.” He said from the door.

“No. They kinda scared me at first but I am fine. Just wondering why all of you are here.” I said almost in a whisper.

“ Sorry, I'm Kendric. As you probably already know the names of my son and daughter along with my two nieces and nephew,” he said walking over to me. Sitting down right in front of me on the floor. “ As for why we are here you have recently turned 17 and you probably don’t think that means anything but it does. It is a very important thing.”

“How is turning 17 of any importance?” I replied in a subtle tone.

“ Well see if I know Rob and Mary at all I would say they didn't tell you that they are not your real parents. That being said it is time for you to come with us.” He said standing up, “ No worries your ‘parents' know that your going to be gone when they come back. The question is really is that are you going to go voluntarily or forcefully?”

“ Wait, your telling me the people I've been with since the day I was born are not my parents. How is that possible? I have seen my birth certificate. I've seen pictures of my mother and father in the delivery room with me in her arms. Your lying!” I said in almost a yell.

“ I understand that you don't believe me but” he said grabbing my wrists, “ You can trust me.” In that moment an overwhelming feeling came over me and I knew he was right, I could trust him.
