Your Laugh

We talk about the simple things that make us happy

You start to rant. Words enthusiastically spill out.

Then you laugh.

The sound stopping my heart and a scenario starts rolling in my head.

Where I'm lying down on your chest listening to you talk

I can even imagine your childish smile

And that sparkle in your eye as you laugh while

Your hands move around in the air as you describe your day.

The smell of you massages the days stress away

I can almost feel the bare skin on your chest

As I draw random shapes, on my fingertips.

Pure joy and complete serenity flow through the bond

Created by the tangled mess known as our bodies

Thin sheets covering us as

We are the warmth each other need

Then the silence transpires between us and

You take a deep breath and smile at

Me as I look up

Then you make a joke that is funny only to you

You say what I'm about to say

Before I even react

Then it makes me laugh

The genuine type of laugh that can be felt

All the way at the bottom of my stomach

Like a heavy weight dragging me deeper into the depths

That is you

And to think this all came from your laugh.

The laugh that held the same sort of innocence and excitement that

I know I will one day

See in the eyes of our child.
