"Daddy no!" Kinsley cried as we stood in the family area after the game. Today the guys left for the first road series and let me just say Kinsley is not looking forward to it, neither am I though.
"Come on Kins you know I hate when you cry." He frowned scooping her up in his arms and wiping her tears. "Look I'll only be gone 8 days, can you hold up 8?" He asks.
Slowly Kinsley looks at her fingers and holds up six making Dansby and I both chuckle. Lifting her other two fingers up he kiss her cheek. "Look that's how many days I'll be gone. Then you, Mommy, and Meggy will all come see me in D.C."
"Daddy why?" She pouted as tears welled in her eyes again.
Dansby frowned giving her forehead another kiss. "It's daddy's job princess." With that he hands her over to me as she sniffles still. "Never gets easier." He frowns.
"I know, she'll come around. She's still so young." I sigh rubbing her back. "But, I love you. Go kick some ass in Chicago and Phili and we'll meet you in D.C." I lean in giving him a kiss.
"You know I will. Hey don't over work yourself this week just cause I'm not here." It's like this man knows me too well. I was already planning on going into the office extra to keep up with leaving for D.C. "Promise me Tae." He says.
I sigh readjusting Kinsley on my hip. "I really need to get ahead before we head to D.C. and..." I stop seeing his glare.
"Taegan." He warns. "Promise me."
"Fine." I give not wanting to argue. "I promise."
"Thank you, now I've got to get going but I'll see y'all in 8 days." I nod my head as he gives me and Kinsley both one last kiss.
As Kinsley continues to pout I make my way over to where Megan is waiting at the door. "She upset?" She asks as I approach.
I nod my head. "Oh yea." Walking out Kinsley lifted her head from my shoulder with watery eyes.
"I hungry." She whispers.
"Well, I'll make you a deal, if you stop crying we'll go get Chick-fil-a." I bargain.
Quickly she is wiping her eyes and trying to stop her crying. She's just like her momma, loves that chicken. "Guess it's Chick-fil-a for dinner." Megan laughs unlocking her car since we road with her.
"If that's ok with you, if not I'll just Uber eats it." I say buckling Kinsley in her car seat.
"No that's fine! We can go in and eat, there's something I wanted to talk with you about anyways." She looked a little nervous about it.
"Good or bad?" I ask wanting to prepare myself.
"Good... I think." She smiles hesitantly.
My eyes widen at a thought. "Oh my god are you pregnant."
Panic quickly crosses her face as she shakes her head. "What? No! Just shut up I'll tell you when we get dinner!" She scolds.
Sitting back I keep my mouth shut until we reach chick-fil-a. "Hi can I get a number 1 with a large sweet tea and a kids nugget with a sweet tea as well." I order.
"Of course, can I get you anything else?" He asks.
"Nope that's all." I smile.
"Ok that will be $10.41." I nod handing him my card when he looks at the name on my card he looks up shocked. "Wait you're Dansby Swanson's wife aren't you?"
I laugh and nod. "I am."
The kids face lit up in excitement. "Oh my gosh I love him, he's killing it so far."
"He is. Ill bring him by one day for you." I say making him smile wider.
"That would be awesome. Oh here's your card." He hand me it back.
"Of course. Thank you." I smile putting it in my wallet.
"Yea my pleasure." Taking my cups I walk over to where Megan was already sitting with Kins.
"Ok so what is this you want to talk about." I ask curiously.
"So I've been thinking, I'm not happy at the clinic anymore." She says making my jaw drop.
"What do you mean? You love working with animals." I question taking a sip of my tea.
"And I still do just not there, I... I think I want to open my own practice." She said nervously.
"Megan that would be amazing. Hard but amazing." I tell her with a smile. "You know if you need any help on how to start a business Dad would be more than willing to help."
"I know, I just worried about what Ender will think. Starting my own practice means not being able to go on as many road trips and to spring training." She sighs.
"Uncle Ender?" Kinsley's head pops up with a mouth full of fries.
"Kinsley Grace do not talk with your mouth full." I scold. Kinsley mumbles a sorry before digging into her chicken once again. "I think Ender will be so proud of you if you start your own practice. You know he wants to see you succeed." I say turning back to her.
"But it will be hard on me as well, you know how much I love watching him." Megan has always been Ender's biggest fan, especially since his family is over in Venezuela.
"If this is something you really want I'm sure you can figure things out." I assure her.
************************ After Dinner we headed home and I got Kinsley bathed and ready for bed. I was working from home tomorrow so that Kinsley doesn't have to go over to my mom's or Nancy's.
"Alright Kins what movie do we want to watch?" I ask climbing into our king size bed. When Dansby is away Kinsley likes to sleep with me and to be honest I like it too.
"Lion ing!" She grins.
Finding Lion King I hit play on the movie and snuggle down into the bed. About 5 minutes into the movie the front door opens setting off the alarm. When it is quickly disarmed, panic sets in my body.
"Kinsley stay right here." I say trying to not show any sign anything is wrong.
Creeping out into the hall I grab the broom prop on the hall wall and hold it ready to hit someone. When a figure comes up the stairs I'm prepared to swing.
"Woah woah woah!"
"Megan!" I screech as she flinches thinking I'm going to swing. "What the hell are you doing breaking into my house without warning!" I tell dropping the broom.
"Sorry, sorry. I just got lonely across the street." She pouted.
Rolling my eyes I wave her into the bedroom. This has become a reoccurring thing durning road trips. Kinsley sees Megan and immediately moves to the middle of the bed while I fill Dansby's side and Megan takes mine.
"What are we watching?" Meg asks climbing under the covers, already in her pjs.
"Lion ing! Shhhhh." I couldn't help but laugh at Kinsley's scolding as we all fall silent and into the movie.
Halfway through though both my movie buddies where passed out leaving just me. Smiling at the two I couldn't help but take a picture. I sent it to Dansby and Ender before settling down in bed to go to sleep myself.
