Two weeks after elevator incident...
Lance knew he was digging himself into a deeper hole, but he couldn't help it. Keith plagued his mind like a cold you just couldn't shake. Lance hadn't had it this bad since eleventh grade when he was lovesick over Jewel Harper. Only this felt worse. With Jewel it had been happy times, puppy love and promises. With Keith it was nervous energy and constant worry of that awful feeling Lance got when he stayed awake at night thinking about how he should tell Keith about his feelings. Rejection. Lance had been rejected a lot. It was nothing new, but with Keith it was different. It didn't feel like a simple crush, they had done it in the elevator for the love of the stars.
And those things Keith had said when Lance fell asleep in his bed.
They hadn't talked about it, about any of it. Instead, it hung around them when the silence snuck into the room. It had only happened twice. After being left alone in the dining hall. Both times hadn't lasted for more than a couple of minutes, but it was painful to Lance... not knowing if Keith wanted to talk about it then panicking because Lance wanted to talk about it but didn't know how.
Lance groaned and banged his head on the wall of his room. He should have never suggested that they take it further in the elevator. He was just too hyped on emotions. He couldn't believe that Keith had kissed him. It had just felt right. Lance had noticed Keith before, he noticed everyone. He couldn't help it. He never took his feelings seriously until that moment.
He continued to bang his head against the wall. Everyone was out talking to the people of the planet they were visiting. Lance couldn't remember the name. The team had all went out with Allura and Shiro to greet the aliens, everyone except for two certain people. Lance hadn't planned on getting stuck in the castle with Keith, and Lance had considered slipping out but decided against it. The castle was big enough to avoid Keith. Or so Lance theorized. He hadn't put it to the test yet. After seeing Keith in the training room (freaking per usual) he quickly went to his room without getting noticed. He had locked himself in and wasn't planning on coming out... until he got bored. He would have played on the gaming console, but it was in a room near Keith's. He refused to risk it. Until now as the boredom broke him down.
Regretting his past life choices, Lance stopped hitting his head on the wall and walked out of his room.
It had been a while since venturing out, and so far, there had been no awkward encounters. Lance was lost in the game, he had already lost five times in a row after getting to the final boss. The old-fashioned video game had no save point after the third death, so you had to start all over. He was so close. His tongue stuck out the side of his mouth between his teeth. His fingers tapping furiously on the control to the point where he was just spamming the attack buttons. This continued for ten more minutes until the boss reached the end of his HP. Lance celebrated, throwing his arms up, controller flying and hitting the console when the boss's death scene came up on the TV.
Lance's victory was short-lived.
When the controller knocked into the console, the game froze, the first half of the word 'victory' on screen. Lance stared wide-eyed.
"No," he whispered distraughtly. "Nonononononononono..."
The screen stayed frozen despite Lance's protest. He hung his head in defeat. His high score. He collapsed backward, laying down on the pillow mattress he'd made with Pidge to play the game on to be comfortable. He rubbed his strained eyes and looked up to see a smirking Keith leaning against the wall in the hallway outside the open doors.
"A witness," Lance shrieked, stretching his arms out in Keith's direction. "You saw that I won, you have to tell Pidge you saw that or else she won't believe me!"
