Harumi's POV-
After the vote, I had fallen asleep on my desk. Jita, being the amazing person I knew her as, had watched for me through the night. I had woken up to the light of the morning city and the sounds Jitaku making tea.
I was forever grateful of her company.
I spent the early hours of the day preparing for the meeting I had scheduled with Sayan Kairoqui. By noon, I found myself sitting at an office desk, wearing a gown that didn't outdo last night's, but was as magnificent and regal as the next. The door clicked as Sayan walked in. Her hair was worn loose, and she was wearing a suit today, instead of a traditional gown like me.
Jita showed Sayan to a seat, and offered her tea. I watched as the representative politely declined, and smiled as Jita stood beside me.Sayan stood up straight. "Senator Kogo-"
"Please." I interrupted, "Call me Harumi."
Sayan nodded. "Harumi. Didn't you visit the camps a couple months ago?"
I nodded. "Yes. I did. My friend Nya and I acquired footage of the Apithians. We even obtained this."
I pressed a button on my desk, illuminating the holographic projection above my desk. There was the video of Kirv loaded onto the screen. I played it./Hi. Um. My name is Kirv, and I'm with the Konesheti. Yes, we are real./
The blue light of the holo illuminated Sayan's face as she watched the video intently.
I shut off the projector as soon as the recording finished.
Sayan looked stunned. "The... Konesheti... they're real! I thought it was a myth!"
I nodded. "So did I, but according to Kirv, they're not."
"And you trust him?" Sayan confronted, standing up straight.
"No." I said. "I believe him. From what I can tell, he isn't lying." I didn't mention, that as an Apithian, I could tell if my kindred where telling the truth.
Sayan nodded. "And they're are more like him?"
I nodded. "But this Apithian, Kirv Dianna, was taken prisoner a couple months ago for an unknown reason. After a season of not interacting with anyone, he will be permitted to receive visitors in two weeks."
"Hmmm..." Sayan said, biting her fingernail. "We can visit him? Ask him questions?"
I smiled. "That's the idea." It was a privilege to have a coworker who thought the same way as me.
It was nice to have someone who cared at all.
