Once the flashes of blue and white had stopped appearing in front of my eyes, I could clearly start to see him.
He was tall and muscular and his ice blue eyes travelled from one person to the next, starting at Zak, then to Matt. Next the moved to the twins then Lily. I thought that he had already seen me as I was stood the furthest forwards until his eyes fell upon me.
He gave a small gasp and stepped backwards. There were gasps from the others now as they hadn't been able to see him as clearly as I had before.
"Why is everyone gasping?" The words left my mouth before I could stop them.
"You..." Matt started.
"He..." James whispered
"I..." Said the stranger. His voice was smooth and warm and somehow familiar. His voice had an unusual lilt as his accent somehow punctuated even the single syllable.
Ever blunt Zak said, "What they're trying to say Yaz, is that if you were a guy, that's what you'd look like."
I turned around and stared at Zak incredulously. "What?" I didn't understand but then the stranger walked over to me and lifted my chin up with his soft, warm hand. I hadn't even realised that I'd been looking down.
Suddenly I saw what the others must have seen as soon as they looked at him.
His hair was the same deep black as mine. The arctic blue eyes that reflected my own were framed by the same dark lashes. He was taller and broader and just generally more masculine than me but other than that... I looked at his hair again and gasped, the ends were deep royal blue colour.
"Hi," he said softly, his voice flowing like a beautiful song, "I'm Dom. It's a pleasure to meet you." His eyes didn't leave mine, even once and I felt my legs shake slightly, the pressure of his gaze affecting my ability to think.
How can he look so much like me?
"I'm Yaz," I managed to get out before I realised that the others were still there. I stepped back so that they could also introduce themselves.
"I'm Matt, Yaz's older brother." Matt said moving forwards slightly as if to protect me from Dom's gaze. "How did you get here and why do you look like the male version of my sister?" He looked like he wanted to say more but was cut off by Lily.
"I'm Lily, Yaz is my best friend and if you harm her..." Lily trailed off, letting her thumb drag across her throat to finish the sentence.
"We're James,"
"And Olly,"
"Lily's twin brothers,"
"And we'll help her,"
"If you harm Yaz."I looked over at Dom and was surprised by the amused look he was giving my friends. "And you're Yaz's bodyguard?" He asked Zak.
"No. Yaz can look after herself. I'm Lily, James and Olly's older sibling, Zak."
"I'm glad that someone knows my capabilities," I said, only half joking to Zak. "What's with you guys anyway? Since when have you been so protective? You know I can best any one of you in a fight, right?"
"Well duh, but he, Dom, whatever his name is, just came out of a mirror and he looks exactly like you." Matt explained as though it was obvious.
"Oh yeah, sorry about the mirror but that's the only way to travel from my world to yours."
"Your world? You mean you're not from Earth? Or is it just like a different dimension?" Zak asked over thinking it way too much.
'This guy just came out of Lily's mirror! Who cares if he's from a different dimension or a different world? It's just as bad either way!' The thought came unbidden to the front of my mind.
