You know that feeling you get when your life flashes before your eyes? When you fear your life is on the line? Like it's about to end? Or you're on the verge of death? Well that's what I felt. In fact, I was positive that I had died. That my life came to an end. At least I'd be able to see my father again.... or so I thought, but I guess God still has plans for me—
I open my eyes slowly, the bright lights practically piercing through my skull, giving me a headache. I winced, I just wanted to close my eyes and go back to sleep. But I didn't.
My eyes flutter open and I looked around and noticed something on my lower face... it was an oxygen mask. I heard a constant beeping noise and I looked over to notice a heart monitor... up and down, up and down.....
I looked down on my motionless body as I noticed IV in my arms.... I sat up a bit having a little energy but still feeling weak. I looked around the room and noticed I was in an all white room, with machines here and there, a small tv up on the wall and a single chair to my right.
It was clear to tell I was in the hospital room, it didn't help the room had a distinct smell. The smell gave me a vibe, made me think of death. It's where everyone usually died. I turned my attention to the small tv on the wall, the news was on. I stared at it and then lifted my hand and looked at it. What had happened?
All of a sudden a voice broke the silence as a lady appeared from the door way, "oh! You're finally awake!" I quickly glanced at the lady, she seemed sweet, she appeared to be in her late 30's, I could easily guess that she was a nurse, by her outfit and her clipboard in her hands.
She gave a warm smile, "I'll be right back with the doctor..." and with that she quickly left the room.
Not a few minutes had past as she came back, a taller older looking male with dark hair. You could see the grey hairs starting to appear on his head. He must be the doctor.
"Hello miss Zosma (Z-ah-s-ma), we're so happy that you're finally awake." The male gave a small glance towards me and then stared at the clipboard in his hands.
The nurse in the mean time was taking off the mask over my mouth and busied herself with the machine and taking care of everything. Without saying anything.
"We've contacted your family... to let them know you're awake" he said still reading off the paper. It was clear he had didn't know a thing about me, or my condition.
The male got up after the nurse had scurried off somewhere and he grabbed my wrist checking my pulse, looking down at his watch.
"What...happened?" I was suddenly surprised at the sound of my voice. It was dry and hard to speak. The doctor then scooted the glass of water next to me without breaking concentration to what he was doing, "you were in a coma for 3 months"
He sat back in his chair and read the papers more thoroughly. I almost chocked on my water. "Three months?!" I almost shrieked in disbelief, wiping the water from my face with my wrist.
"Yes you were in an accident..." he replied putting on his reading glasses, "you were struck by... a meteor?" The last one he said like a question. He must have been as confused as I was. A meteor? How....?
I shook my head, it was all coming back to me now. If I remember correctly... there was someone else there right? Were they injured? "What about th—
I was immediately cut off when the door swung open and a girl came running in squealing, and I was embraced in a tight hug.
"OH MY GOODNESS! ARE YOU OK?! IM SO HAPPY YOU'RE ALRIGHT! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!" The female rambled on and on. It was Lexi.
"Lexi one thing at a time" I gave a small laugh and smiled. It might not have felt like a long time for me, but I know it was obviously a long time for her and seeing her now made me realize how much I missed her.
She propped herself up and watched me, her green eyes fixed on me as she was smiling brightly, "ok... the one thing, are you ok?"
I nodded, "I'm fine." I said reassuring her.
Before she could reply the doctor cleared his throat. As we both turned our focus to the male, again looking at the papers, "are you... her mother?" He asked confused, giving us both a worried look with a hint of concern.
Lexi let out a laugh, "Nooo! She's my best friend, my sister from another mother!"
The doctor gave a small sigh, probably relieved and then replied, "well we were supposed to contact her important family first..."
Lexi quickly replied not letting him continue, "EXCUSE ME. I. AM. VERY IMPORTANT!" here we go, "WITHOUT ME, SHE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE NO SOCIAL LIFE, SHE WOULD BE A WITHERED, SAD, LITTLE FLOWER!"
The doctor gave a look in annoyance, and turned his attention to the papers, "I guess they did try and contact your mother but no reply" he quickly stood up and changed the subject, "you're perfectly fine and all you have to do is some paper work and then you can be discharged." He put the clipboard down and spun on his heels quickly leaving the room.
"Thank. Gawd" Lexi let out a groan, "you've missed a lot at school" She quickly grabbed her bag and rummaged through it.
"Like what?" I asked a bit curious. I mean I was kinda sleeping for 3 months so I would be a bit curious of what I missed.
"Like... I don't know a bunch of drama... I got a new boyfriend... there's a hot new transfer student" she stopped there and gave me a smirk and then Lexi pulled out her phone and started typing, "and you're the talk of the school for the past three months... also the meteor that hit you left a huge crater at the beach. So now it's called crater lake...." she gave me a worried look, "you're lucky that thing didn't actually hit you, and that only the impact was what hurt you."
I shook my head, what were the chances that something like that would happen? "New boyfriend huh?" I asked changing the subject, "nice" I gave her a small smile.
"Yup!" She then put her phone down and looked at me, "and I just invited probably the whole school. We're gonna throw you a welcome back to the living party" she let out a small laugh, "you need a party to make up for what happened last time."
I stared at her, "really...." I gave a small glare and looked away, "I could've understood a small party or like get together with like I don't know our other friends but the whole school...?! Really!"
She gave an innocent smile, "and there's a high chance that most of them will come. Being popular has their perks... and also I invited the new guy~"
I rolled my eyes, "if you're already trying to set us up then it's not gonna happen. I don't even know him... and also I'll go to the party if I have to"
Lexi let out a small squeal in excitement, "and I will set you two up! If it's anything I'm good at is setting people up! Call me Cupid Lexi!"
"I'm good" I replied and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. I was still a bit weak. My arm was bruised from all the needles that were in it. I stood up.
Lexi hopped up and handed me a bag, "I bought you a gift... spoilers they're clothes!"
I nodded, "thank you" I took the bag and went to the restroom to wash up and change. I looked in the mirror and grimaced, I looked pretty bad. I ran my fingers through my hair as I walked out of the bathroom.
"Are you ready Lexi?" I said then looked up to notice a guy standing next to her. They both have seemed to have been talking before I came out. They both stopped and looked at me.
"Hi Zosme" the male said quietly giving me a warm smile, "it's been awhile..."
