Space Bound

Chapter 2

I stood there for a moment. My abnormally bright blue eyes fixed on the tall male, who had messy dark brown hair and bright green eyes. His skin tanned. He gave me a smile.

It clicked. Without hesitation I ran up to him and gave him a huge hug, "Oh My Gosh Zane!" I squealed. I was excited, I haven't seen him in a long time and he is one of my best friend.

He hugged back and laughed, "I guess she still remembers me..."

"OF COURSE I REMEMBER YOU!" I broke the hug and hit his arm lightly, "Why wouldn't I?!" I looked up at him and removed some hair from my face.

Zane shifted his weight from one foot to the other and had his hands in his pockets, his green eyes fixed on mine, "who know what had happened... maybe you would have had amnesia!" He exclaimed. I could sense the hint of sarcasm in his tone.

"Very funny..." I fake laughed and grabbed the bag off the bag, noticing Lexi had already gotten my things together, she probably wanted to hurry up and get out of here, "so what are you doing here Zane?"

"I heard about your accident and came as quickly as I could..." he replied and watched me... I headed for the door noticing Lexi and Zane following behind.

"That was three months ago no? Have you been here the whole time?" I asked heading for the desk...

"Yes, I've been staying in town for awhile and I was gonna stay until you woke up..." he scoffed a little like I just asked the most ridiculous question.

"I don't know whether I should be flattered or offended by your action just now" I stopped and faced him putting my hands on my hips.

"Maybe both" he replied and looked down at me.

"Whatever..." I rolled my eyes and walked to the desk to do the paperwork. Lexi and Zane were chatting behind me about random things.

I looked at them both. "Ok so what are we gonna do now?" They both stopped talking and looked at me.

Zane replied, "how about an old tradition...? Ice cream and star gazing?" He shrugged, "it's been awhile."

"Sure!" That was a classic, me Lexi and Zane would go get ice cream with my dad and afterwards we would go to the nearby hill and watch stars. It was amazing, "we can't stay out too late there's school tomorrow right?"

"Yeah but you should wait until you get better to go" I noticed Zane nod in agreement.

"I'd rather not wait any longer guys, We're in college. I've missed 3 months of college already... you know how much work I already have to catch up on now?" I huffed, annoyed just thinking about it.

"Yeah you have missed a lot..." Lexi scrunched up her face. She probably could feel the stress that I'm gonna go through, "it's fine though I'll help you!"

"Thanks" I smiled as we headed for the doors, I reached in my bag to grab my phone. I probably need to charge it. I got the power button once and notice it on and the battery at a hundred. I looked over at Lexi and held up the phone confused.

"What? I had to keep it charged... and possibly go through it... but I had to keep it alive for when you wake up..." she said quickly.

She kept it charged... for 3 months... this girl is unbelievable. I looked at the time 7:03 p.m.
As we got out of the building I breathed in the fresh air. It was nice. I didn't realize how much I was suffocating from the hospital air. The smell of death, the vibe that death would be lurking around every corner. I shivered at just the thought.

Zane stopped and looked at us both, "meet you at the shop?" Me and Lexi both nodded as he walked off towards the black and red motorcycle parked near the entrance. I was probably drooling. That was a sexy bike, Zane got on the Kawasaki Ninja and put on his helmet starting up the bike.

Lexi nudged me, "dude he totally likes you!"

I immediately looked up at her, "where'd that come from?!"

"It's obvious, ever since we were kids... it was just more obvious today..." she watched him as he sped off on the bike...

"Aren't you trying to hook me up with the new guy?" I sighed in annoyance... there was no way Zane would like me. We're just best friends, always have been. I'm not even his type, totally not good enough for him.

She sighed, "honestly I am but I'm stuck.... I don't know who to pair you up with... Zane or the new guy..." she frowned, it was obvious that this was bothering her.

"It's fine Lexi I'm not interested in dating anyway... I don't want to get caught up in drama like that, and besides I thought Zane has a girlfriend..." I was trying to change the topic as I started walking towards the parking lot.

Lexi just groaned and followed behind quickly grabbing my wrist as she pulled me in the other direction. I almost fell, "the car is this way!"

"Lexi a little more of a warning next time...? Please!?" I groaned, then stopped looking over towards a tree near the parking lot next to the side of the building.

I got this weird feeling that someone was watching me. It was a weird feeling in my gut. I looked at the tree, I could've sworn I saw someone hide behind it.

I nearly jumped out of my skin as Lexi placed her hand on my shoulder, "Zo you ok?"

I spun around to look at her, "oh yeah I'm sorry I thought I saw someone"

"Oh.. ok well let's go we don't want to keep Zane waiting..." she tugged at my arm again and walked to the car, as we both got in. I buckled in and my eyes immediately noticed the picture on her dashboard.
The one of me, Zane and Lexi with my dad... we were in 6th grade if I remember correctly. We were doing what we were about to do right now.

I leaned against the window as we drove... I watched the side mirror for a while. The drive was about thirty minutes away and I let out a yawn. For someone who was asleep for three months I'm pretty tired.

As we were close to the shop,
Lexi turned on her blinker and drove down an older road. The ice cream shop was located in the old part of town. It was more quiet here and less busy.

I noticed the same car that had been following us, "you know... that car has been following us for awhile now..."

Lexi laughed a bit, "stop being paranoid, the ice cream shop is pretty popular maybe they're going for ice cream too!" she pulled to the curb and then turned off the car, "lets go!"

I nodded and got out, I spotted Zane's bike. I was happy, it's been awhile since I've been this happy. I closed the door and then out of nowhere a car whipped around the corner by us, coming towards me... I had no time to react....
