Everything in the universe has a meaning, if not at cosmic proportions, then at the tap of a toe to a favourite song or a wide smile when you feel the presence of your closest friends shining upon you.

The meaning of the two saviours coming together was somewhat of a rushed but dire decision in an attempt to rescue the souls of the innocent before it was their time; being ripped out of the hands of many nighttime terrors. All across America hundreds of people were being reported missing and being found dead with seemingly no explanation. Now was the time to make a choice, let the human race deplete until there were mere trickles of life left to flow upon the face of God's green Earth or attempt to restore the good in the world by rounding up the bad.

The latter seemed the most morally right, going against all the rules so that creatures more violent than man were wiped out, potentially exposing the truth of life after death and what happens 'up there'.

As well as being morally right, it was also the most convenient. Angels in the clouds were getting bored of the same day in day out routine and were starting to become restless and sloppy. The Demons residing in the deepest pits of Hell were the perfect amount of cunning and danger that could be manipulated for their bidding, itching to get out.

Technically Angels were meant to do no harm, only virtue, and they were doing just that. By using the damned to operate in the field without causing any harm at home meant that they were able to get by perfectly well, also allowing a certain few to climb back up the ladder and re-enter the human world in order to prove themselves worthy.

Choosing who would be needed was the most difficult part, the plan had been set up and all the resources were available in plenty, ready at the click of two fingers. However, when it came to deciding which honoured Angels and which lucky Demons were to join the fight, the time came to a standstill.

Of course many offered but, in his eyes, it couldn't be someone too willing. They had to know how to make quick decisions whilst in the moment and someone with too much of a sense of willingness could potentially make them too reliant on someone else. It required a lot of thinking, and help, and time. Time which they did not have a lot of.

So, this is where it came to. God and his little angel, Ambrosia, sat at a pure white marble desk with monochromatic desktop items including a silver stapler, silver pen pot (filled with an even amount of freshly sharpened white pencils) and a sizeably large crisp white notepad with a silver border on top. They both sat in silence, whilst he was deep in thought she was slightly bored, mind drifting off as her delicate hands danced to play with the nearby stapler.

The faint metallic clicking brought him out of his thoughts and his eyes opened to look at her. She was looking at the fluorescent glow entering the room from below the door with  the number 1 painted on gracefully in gold lettering. She brought her hand to the end of her hair, and gently twisted the tight curls between her fingers, not noticing his stare.

Suddenly it hit him, she was the perfect person to do it, Ambrosia had the exact amount of grace and purity he needed to be able to communicate with the humans but also was extremely hard-working and complacent. Any task given to her would be completed in the next 48 hours. As they both sat there, the pure white of the walls beaming down on them but soft enough to not hurt the eyes, she turned to him.

"I can think of many grateful brothers and sisters who are willing to succeed in your plan, but none who want to." The elegance of her voice filled the area around them and he nodded. "What about you?" He could see her wings perk up as the suggestion lingered, her ethereal feathers which gleamed like diamond seemed to be standing on edge, a sure sign of excitement and he knew that she was carefully weighing out the pros and cons of saying yes. Not that there were many cons of course, except the slight chance of losing your life, but any Angel would happily lay down their lives, it is simply in their creation.

Looking around the room Ambrosia finally came to a decision, "I would do anything you asked me to, of course, I will. However, just know that not only am I willing to carry out the tasks, I want to." He slowly nodded his head, understanding the hidden emotion in her words. "Now, who to pair you with." A look of apprehension washed over her face for a second but was quickly replaced with a soft neutral gaze, through which no true emotion could be seen.

Another short period of silence came over them again. The two both knew what the other was thinking, there was only one person in the entire world she could be paired with, not because of hatred from others towards Ambrosia but simply because of the strange compatibility they shared.

They had met before, but that was light years ago, mindlessly bumping into each other now and again, seemingly fate that they constantly cross paths.

A heavy and unsuspected weight pulled on her stomach as he finally spoke up, "I think that we both know who must be chosen for this." She swallowed a lump in her throat she didn't even know she had and began to stand up, curls bouncing on her shoulders as she quietly tucked the chair in under the desk, skin standing out next to the bright marble. Her eyes scanned the room as she waited for him to start to make a move to leave the pristine room.

"Do not fret, it will all be worth it in the end." He solemnly said, Ambrosia understood and pulled gently at her wooly cream turtleneck. She noticed it seemed to feel slightly tighter around her neck and she nodded her head at him. "Worry not, I will try my hardest to thrive in our tasks."

"Yes." He said and steadily stood up, he motioned his hand at her to the large door across the room and she took this as the cue to start leaving. The room she may not see for quite a while was soon behind her and one last look back once she was at the door was all she needed to engrain it in her memory. Ambrosia was not sure how she would cope without the comfort of home but decided to hurriedly reach the over to the side counter and pocket the golden tipped fountain pen lying next to a notebook.

The hallway had a certain chill to it that she had never noticed before and her hands retracted upwardly into the warm sleeves of her jumper. The door slamming is what made her move her feet again from where they had unknowingly rooted themselves into the floor. The two both stood outside of the office looking at each other with care until he said, "I will always be watching over you. Remember to be careful and be kind and you will succeed."

"Thank you, it is an honour to be chosen." She said her voice laced with over-confidence, which was certainly not how she was feeling at that particular moment. "I am sure I will miss you very much and I promise to remember to pray every night so you can get daily updates." Half smiles planted on each of their faces and he chuckled lightly. "I will miss you too, you have been such an amazing help and have really come into your own. I have complete confidence in you that you will make me proud."

A lone tear welled up in her eye and she peered around to make sure that no one was looking while she leaned in to give him a short hug. His large but welcoming hand went up to her head and patted her hair. After a few seconds, they stepped away from each other. "I believe it is time to greet your newest co-worker." He said and placed his index finger and middle finger on her forehead as he took her to see her chosen partner.
