The sleek red 1965 Cadillac DeVille roared its way into the empty gas station, gravel crunched under the tires and mixed with the funky guitar of 'Common People' by Pulp blaring through the car radio and the loud singing of Mara out of the rolled down window as she drove the car into the nearest parking space and quit the running engine of the car.

The radio abruptly stopped and both pairs of shoes stepped out of the doors in unison, a pair of black Fila Disruptor trainers and petite baby pink flats convened to the back of the cherry red motor after the loud slam of one door and a quiet click of the other.

"So..." Mara started whilst staring at the busted door of the gas station shop. "Whats the plan?" The black nail varnish standing out against her pale skin as she adjusted one of the many rings slotted onto her slender fingers.

Ambrosia looked over at Mara in confusion, "I thought I had just explained everything to you in the car?" Her big chocolate brown doe eyes squinted as she realised that Mara had not paid any attention to her words during the past three-hour drive. It now occurred to her how throughout the long road trip Mara had not looked at her once nor had she been responsive in the slightest when she had mentioned the trip to Hell they would have to make soon.

"Unbelievable!" Ambrosia scoffed, pushing off the boot of the car and marching away, her dark coiled hair bouncing off her shoulders. Mara chuckled at the irritated look on Ambrosia's face. She thoroughly enjoyed messing with her, in spite of Ambrosia's beliefs that Mara's brain was the perfect human/Demon embodiment of a sieve Mara had in fact; taken in, processed and understood every single word that poured out of Ambrosia's plump lips.

After resting against the back of the car for a few moments longer, stretching out her legs and arms, she shook her head and took off behind Ambrosia's figure who was nearing the depleted gas station's rusted door.

As she neared the shop Ambrosia stopped and looked across over to the windows of the station, one on either side of the red door and one above it. Out of the three windows, all of them had been in some way blocked over, in the form of dusty blinds pulled all the way down to the very bottom of the glass and by a piece of very suspicious wood painted over in black with grey duct tape around the edges, securing it to the windowsill. The only sounds emitting from the discoloured building were sporadic and jerky creams of metal.

"Oi!" Shouted Mara her loud voice echoing around the very uninviting gravel driveway causing Ambrosia to jump. Mara started to snicker, "Wow... Am I really that terri-" but Ambrosia was too uneasy to care, she threw her hand up behind her to signal Mara to stop. Mara's voice halted straight away, this was the second time in two days that she has interrupted Mara and Ambrosia would've been extremely proud of herself if she wasn't so worried, you could almost hear the wariness mixed with shock in Mara's silence.

And that silence is exactly what sent a cold chill shooting down Ambrosia's spine. "Why was it so silent?" She wondered and she knew Mara was thinking something along the same lines, only something probably dimmer. "This is serious A! Not the time for being mean." Ambrosia hurried on in her mind, pushing away her intrusive thoughts about the particularly annoying Demon behind her.

A few moments later Mara's harsh but slightly lowered voice said: "What the fuck are we doing!" Ambrosia was fairly relieved to hear her voice, the silence was beginning to get too much and her heart was starting to beat a tiny bit faster. "It's too quiet." She whispered back eyes quickly darting to scan all of the windows for any signs of a disturbance.

"Yes. I've gathered that." Mara obviously stated, "But why are we standing here playing Simon Says - freeze! When I could be in there getting myself a packet of cigarettes and you could be grabbing us a map and a shitty little air freshener that you bought because 'It's just so cute!' ?" Ignoring the harsh words coming from Maras' mouth, Ambrosia ran to stop her from moving when Mara began to walk towards the station door again.

"Because it's too quiet!" Ambrosia pressed, adding emphasis to the word 'too'. Mara seemed to understand now and furrowed her brows slightly. Now it was too quiet. Mara realised that in the 10 minutes of being in the gas station she had not seen or heard any other signs of life. This almost immediately flipped a switch inside of Mara's body and she instinctively moved to stand in front of the short Angel. Mara blinked and her eyes were suddenly filled with a pitch black void, her senses heightened and her fists clenched, raising up slightly.

"Uh-um. W-what are you-What are you doing?" Ambrosia stuttered out, confused at the fast movements and unexpected protection from Mara.

Mara's breath was caught in her throat by the Angel's confused tone. She brushed it off quickly before changing her eyes back to normal and lowering her defences. "Well, I'm supposed to be protecting you aren't I?" Mara said, hoping that her tone didn't falter. "Oh... Oh yeah, I know. It was - just fast... You know." Ambrosia said awkwardly, attempting (but failing) to hide her blush. Luckily Mara had already turned back around to face the broken building.

As she pretended to look for danger Mara fought hard to suppress the flustered feeling in her stomach from being caught out by Ambrosia. Mara was terribly confused. Why was she flustered at Ambrosia's question, she was only doing what she had been hired to do. Fight for the Angel. So why did the need to stand in front of her and protect come so naturally without having to be thought about? And why was she feeling this way over being asked a simple question? Maybe it was because the tone in Ambrosia's voice has come across so accusing at first that she was offended, but the longer Mara stood there with her fists still slightly clenched thinking about Ambrosia's tone of voice she realised that Ambrosia was surprised by her actions. "This must've been why I felt... weird!" Mara persuaded herself, "I was ruffled up because I don't need Ambrosia thinking that I care too much about her." Yeah, that must've been it, Ambrosia trailed off as she began to gather herself again.

When Mara looked around she noticed that Ambrosia was looking at the ground deep in thought. She clicked her fingers in front of the Angel's face and Ambrosia's head popped back up in alarm. This time the look of stress didn't give Mara the usual dose of joy as it so often does. This time she felt a minuscule tug at the bottom of her stomach, the feeling was so small in fact that it almost went by unnoticed, until Ambrosia looked Mara in the eyes squinting at the fact that she wasn't snickering to herself as she does. At this strangely alarming look, Mara forced herself away from the feeling along with a short bought of rushed laughter.

"What the fuck is going on." Mara angrily thought to herself, "Probably because I haven't had a cigarette in a few hours." She bluntly said out-loud and Ambrosia nodded quickly in agreement.

"Come on then," Mara said and began to walk closer to the heavy looking metal door. "Wait!" Ambrosia rushed out, "What if something's in there." She said and frowned at Mara's stupidity. Mara sighed and scuffed the toes of her shoes along the gravel, "We can either wait out here and leave or we can go in and see for ourselves. Plus what could really be in there? Some kind of gas station monster?" She joked.
