I wake up, fluttering my eyes as I feel a soft bed compared to the hard floor I was sure I fainted on. I quickly sit upright and look at my surroundings, breathing slower as I realized where I am.
Looking at the soft white sheets and sterilized conditions, I assumed that I was in the hospital. An IV was plugged into my arm and a soreness throbbed around my left chest area. As I twist, pain sears through me quickly so I revert back to my original position, leaning on my pillow. I lift up my shirt, looking at the bloody gauze, and then place it back down.
My mother comes in, rushing with tears going down her face, eyes puffy, nose stuffy, hands full of tissue. "Oh Hazel! I'm so happy you're alive! I was so scared!" She cries out.
"It's ok mom, I'm okay." I tell her with a gentle smile. "How's Dad, I'm wondering where he is? He usually comes by my side and even waits by my bed when I end up here. Is he in the restroom? I probably just missed him huh?" I say mindlessly, truly wondering where my father is.
My mom looks at me, mouth slightly agape, eyes warped with even more sadness. I gaze into her eyes. Memories flooding through my mind as everything comes back into place.
"Mom... MOM! this is my fault..." I begin.
"No Hazel it's not! Your boyfriend had been charged so you won't be seeing him for a long time.
I turn to my mother quickly, grabbing her arms , eyes wide with confusion. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN HAD? Are you saying he is released from his charges? Despite all the sorrow he cause for the people he raped? Despite the sorrow he is causing us with the death of your husband, my father?!" I shout in pure anguish.
"Hazel... he has... connections. So he got out of his charges, but he isn't allowed anywhere near you." My mom says soothingly.
"Mom, like you said, he has connections. His restraining order doesn't mean anything to him! He could barge into our house anytime... what about all my brothers and sisters. I'll be gone and he would be tormenting you!" I say as I think.
"You'll be in college, so don't worry." She says with a smile of reassurance.
"Oh... Mom..." I cry as I hug her. But I have other plans...

8:46 PMI look down at my phone, my heart pounding, my breath racing, and my body shaking. I look at the bright screen of my phone as it displays the same time.
No one is nearby, I am by myself. My mom went home to take care of my sibling.
I release a breath of anxiety.
Let's get this over with.
I dial his number. The phone only rings 2 times before he picks up.
"Hey princess, I knew you would call." He says in his usual calm voice. He is no longer the angel I portrayed him to be.
"We need to talk. I know you. You'll go after my family." I go straight to the point.
"Oh. Clever and Sharp as always I see. How is that injury holding up?" He avoids my confrontation.
"Lucas. Please. Don't take this out on my family." I fearfully reply. But my gut is telling me I have to do this.
"Meet me by the café near the pub. Be there in ten minutes. Don't be late." He chuckles evilly and I feel a chill run down my back. I take a deep breath and let out a large sigh. I grab my jacket and leave the hospital.
I run through the corridors and go out through the automatic doors. My shoes barely hanging on. I run across streets, through traffic, weaving in an out. Until I reach my destination. 2 minutes left with sweat hanging on to my skin and my heart thundering through my body and to my head.
"I knew you were going to be early. You always were the one to sprint here as fast as you could. Too bad you couldn't give up your v-card just the same." Lucas remarks.
I turn around to see him in dark clothing, his smirk plastered on and eyes glimmering with the city lights in the dark night.
"Get straight to the point, I have to get back to my room before the nurse realizes I'm gone and thinks you kidnapped me." I huff out.
"Still feisty I see."
"Lucas! Get back to the topic." I shout, regretting it a second later.
Anger flares through and he pushes me harshly against the jagged-designed wall of the café.
"Think before you talk to me because we know exactly what I'm capable of. That's exactly how your father died." He harshly whispers.
Fear and adrenaline course through my veins and capillaries as I lock eyes with him.
"You don't have the right to even mention my father through your filthy mouth." I seethe.
I get a sharp pinch at my gash and I cry out in pain, the wound still tender. I know the cut reopened, my warm blood seeping into the gauze.
"Speak. Nicely." He orders.
I obey and shirk back to my usual self.
"Lucas, I'm begging you, please... don't hurt my family." My voice cracks.
"Princess. There is no fun in it for me if I leave your family alone." He laughs.
"Let's make a deal." I bring up. He stops laughing and stares at me. He cracks a smile and begins laughing again. He pretends to wipe a tear with his finger.
"You?" He laughs. "Making a deal? With me? Sure princess, what's your offer?" He lightly says.
"If you ... leave my family alone... then you can torment me for as long as you want. But you have to give me a head start at hiding. It's just a huge hide and go seek game..." I slowly say.
His eyes light up with mischief, my fear gets shoved at the back of my mind.
"Alright, deal. I will leave your family alone and I will torment you. On one condition." He smiles. "Once you are in my custody, be prepared for you torture. Because..." he leans to my ear. "You're mine Mia."
My eyes widen in fear but I could only nod my head, running back to my room in the hospital.
As long as my family is safe...
