I leave Dr. Charles office to see Kennedy walking down the hallway with Natalie, Dr. Charles and I talked for an hour on how we can get Kennedy in for a consultation with him
"Hey Jay" Natalie says as I catch up to the two
"Hey Nat" I smile wrapping an arm around Kennedy kissing her cheek, she smiles hugging me
"So what you guys do last night?" She asks nudging Ken
"Nat I told you" Kennedy laughs and so do I
"Had a few beers, had Chinese and watched a few movies before she fell asleep" I laugh and she hides her face in my neck giggling
"Where did she fall asleep?" She nudges us laughing at Kennedy who is turning a bright red
"On his lap," she says into my neck blushing even harder
"Ooo," Nat says laughing
"You gotta go now," Kennedy says pushing me away from her
*Kennedy Dawson*
I walk with Jay out
"So what are you doing tonight?" Jay asks leaning against his truck
"Uh meeting an old friend for dinner with his kids," I say speaking of Alex
"So its a guy," he says sucking his lip between his teeth
"Ya an OD patient came in and it was his wife who I went to rehab with, I haven't seen the kids in about 3 years so I'm going to meet up with them and take them for the night hopefully," I said folding my arms kind of annoyed with his attitude
"Oh ok, well I got to go," he says kissing my cheek and leaving
I walk in to see Alex sitting with the kids, I smile walking in and AJ smiles
I wave and AJ runs over and gives me a hug wrapping her arms tightly around me
"Hi sweetie" I smiled wrapping my arms around the 12-year-old
"Hi Kenny" her younger brother Brent says waving
"Hi Brent," I say sitting in the other chair across from Alex and Brent while AJ sits on the bed near me
"I just came to check on you guys and see if you still wanted to get dinner after my shift?" I ask seeing her heartbeat was still stable
"Yah what time you off again?" Alex asks I tell him 7 and he agrees and I walk out going to check on other patients
"Dawson" I hear Maggie shout and I turn around to see her running up to me with a chart in hand
"I need a consult everyone is busy and it's your specialty, pediatric," she says, I grab the chart
I rush to the trauma room to see the little girl with a sheet of metal sticking out of her abdomen
"Hi sweetie I'm doctor Dawson," I say grabbing gloves
"Hi doctor my name is Trinity," she says wheezing a little
"Well Trinity I am happy you are responsive and your stats are normal but I need to get this metal out of your abdomen and right now I'm going to need you to breath for me," I say
I grab my stethoscope and tell her to breathe in and it was constricting her airway a little
"So this sheet is pressing against her lungs a little that's what causing the wheezing while she talks," I say to her parents who are nervously holding each other
"It will require surgery cause if I take this out right here it has a risk of her bleeding out or damaging her lungs," I say as April is putting an IV into her arm
"How long will it take?" The mother asks holding onto her husband's hand like her life depended on it, I asked them to follow me outside to talk privately
"I'm sorry but I cannot give you an exact time it is pressing against her lungs it's going to be risky plus I don't know if the sheet of metal has damaged any vital organs, I can't bring her in for an X-Ray to see because of the way its shaped it won't fit in or around, another risk is moving her to stand the weight might be too much for her" I say looking in to see April drawing some blood since she was doing the Pre-Op
"So you're going in blind?" Her dad asks and I nod
"It's going to be a little difficult but I can do it" I smile giving them reassurance and they smile back
*after the surgery*
I walk out of the operating room feeling accomplished they surgery went smoothly no complications and everything had little to no damage and she will recover fine
I walk up to her parents and they stand up as soon as they see me
"How'd everything go?" Dave her dad asks holding onto his wife Rosie
"It went by smoothly that sheet metal hit no vital organs, she will have a slow recovery though," I say as they wheel Trinity to a post-op room
"She will have a scar across her stomach but that is about it, she will breathe just fine but right now she will have to do therapy for her breathing since it did puncture her lung just a tiny bit" I add before I tell them they can go visit their daughter
I look over to the wall to see the clock read 5:26 which meant I had a little over an hour and a half left
I sighed walking into the bathroom, I turn the tap on and splash my face with the cold water
I look down to see the old scars from the needle, I trace the scars and look at myself I dig my finger into the scar until I see a tear roll down my cheek
I turn the tap off wiping the tear I hid my arms and rush to an on-call room, I reach the first on-call room I see and lock the door behind me
I reach into my pocket and dial a number I never thought I'd call ever again
