introduction to the story, this is a brief summary on what the book will be written about. chapters ahead will take place in present time.
At the end of a long, tiring day at school, the school bus can be your best friend.
You finally get to go home and, most of the time, your worries fly away. You can go back to your lovely, warm and welcoming house and you can let your worries go because you're home.At least for some people.
I remember back in middle school, there was this boy, his name was Tyler.
Everyday he rode the school bus home. While everyone was at the back, gossiping to their friends about that girl who wore that ugly black dress to school, or talking about who likes who, he sat in the front. He sat there every single day, not a single sound escaping his lips. He sat patiently and reserved until the bus doors opened so that he could return to his house.
And everyday for 5 months, as soon as the bus doors flew open, he'd race out of there before you could get to talk about the latest lip gloss colour.
I remember everybody making fun of him. They said things like "he's such a geek!" or "must be in a hurry to do homework." They never missed a chance to make fun of him. It became something so normal and regular, that even the bus driver would tease him. Of course, no one knew what was really going on in his life, they thought it was just a joke.
I never said anything about him. I never teased him, I never even thought about it. I knew I shouldn't be quick to judge or assume anything. So I kept quiet.
This went on for nearly 5 months.
I guess you could say Tyler got used to all the bullying. The jokes never became old. New jokes were established each day. I don't think there was ever a day where they forgot, or didn't make fun of him.
My best friend; Lacy, and I never understood what the huge fuss was about. We even tried befriending him. Only that didn't work out.
He was so shy and introverted, so quiet and well reserved. It was quite hard getting him to talk, and if at all, only a few words at a time. We gave up after 3 weeks.
It's not like he struggled in school. From what I knew, he was on top of his classes, and even asking if there was any more work he could complete.
A lot of kids at our school made up theories. Theories on why he would sprint back to his house every afternoon. They were kind of chaotic.
One kid said that he was some sort of sociopath and refused to be seen with a large group of kids. Another thought that his dad was abusive and he was just trying to protect his mother. They all thought he belonged in the looney bin, and thought he should get locked up before he tried anything crazy. They say a lot of kids like these turn out to become psychopaths and mass murderers.
I refused to believe any of these conspiracies as my mother taught me how to be a respected young lady.
Do not assume things by what you see, that will impact your perspective of the person. That's never good.
My mother died when I was 10.
I respected Tyler. I think he was a responsible young man and he just enjoyed being at home.
He enjoyed it so much that everyday, he'd rush to his house before you could even say goodbye.
