"I am targeted by these men. If I get shot by one of them, my boss will take care of the authority problem. You see that truck. In the side seat you will find a identification, I have my dog tags on, and I have my driver's license on me. Man I am a target out here."

Another cruiser pulled up and out got two officers who automatically pulled out their guns. This was not getting any better. "John tell eagle to stand down. She is getting itchy. Maverick keep things together and control of the team. I am the one they want. Stay back until our back up arrives. John give Andrew the list of the team so everyone gets cleared. If one of the officers accidently shoots me, I want you men freed. No attacking the civilian authority." I said as I heard a crackling in the car next to me. I knew this would hurt. The car blew up, triggering the other car, then a rain of bullets. I flew well into the bushes. I had turned my face and trunk away from the blast.

Now things were messy. My head was ringing and hurting. I could not hear worth anything.

I was on the ground, and being handcuffed. I was bleeding from a gash on my head, a bullet wound in my arm and leg. The eagle was now aiming at the officers as a black SUV pulled up. I could tell it was the team I had been waiting for. They called for an ambulance and one ran to where I was and had the handcuffs removed. A first aid kit was brought out. They were yelling and I could not hear anything. I finally raised my hand and asked them to stop.

"I can't hear you but you need to listen. I have six men of a hit team in my hotel room. My team is watching them. I have a sniper and I have an overactive police team. Clear this up. The team has an Arabic accent, and we did not kill or seriously hurt them. The blast may have done some damage to them. Check on my team and are the officers okay." I could feel a helicopter landing in the parking lot. With the blood in my eyes, could barely remember seeing Andrew running my way.

I woke up two days later with, Andrew was sitting there with his suit jacket over his chest. "Andrew, where have you got me stashed?"

Andrew jumped. "Dan, you're awake. I thought we had lost you there for a while. We are in Dallas. The men that helped you are well compensated. The men you got were in country illegally. They are being charged with attempted murder and terrorism. So now about you. Nasty cuts and gashes on your back and arm.

Broke some ribs and a hard concussion, three gunshot wounds from the officers that reacted to the blast and you're on medical leave until you are well. We found you a home for now. Your truck is totaled, but all gear was saved. You are one lucky dog. John is waiting to see you and yes we did cover cost on his motel for damages. Then his insurance paid some as well. As for who was really behind this, we still are not really sure yet. Homeland, CIA, and the rest of the alphabet are on it. They asked that you lay low and out of trouble. I figure a safe house in the middle of nowhere and a few special guest to keep you safe."

"Now Andrew, I do not need all that. Let me set up my new house and get my jeep changed over to the new area. I will be good for a while. I will find a nice quiet hobby to do while I recover and then we can see what happens from there. Good Grief, you would think with your thinking that the mafia or curtail is after me and they have the U.S. Marshal service in their pocket. Relax. I will be fine. When will the doctor be in to see me. I want out of this hospital and to get home." I said as I adjusted in the bed sending off alarms.

A nurse came running in. "You are awake. That is good, but you need to stay off the arm, it is crimp your IV in your hand. The doctor will be in shortly and he is almost here." she said as she took my vitals.

I laid back and relaxed. Andrew and the nurse was going to make sure I do not do anything stupid. I could see exhaustion on Andrew's face and I knew he had been up here non stop.

An hour passed and I was beyond hungry and the doctor walked in. "So you woke up in a good mood and you are breathing fine. I bet you are hungry. The iv does not fill the belly, I have the results of the test and most are good. There was an exposure to small amounts of radiation. But that seems to be a few months ago. I would like to go over some of the other marks and former broken bones to see what is behind them." He said as he looked at my chart.

"Doc that would be classified and even I can't tell you all the issues with military related wounds and mission briefings. I will go over these wounds but nothing in the past or in the future that may cause a national security leak. So bark up another tree. When do I go home or at least back to base. I do not feel that laying in this bed is conducive to my mental needs." I said thinking this is going to be a long stay no matter how I played my hand.

"I think today you can get out of ICU and onto the floor after you have eaten something. Then we will see from there. Unless the transfer to the prison hospital has come through. It was requested by the police on duty." the doctor said as he left.

"Andrew, find out something. I did nothing illegal I was doing what I needed to do. Go get things fixed. I will not go to jail over someone attacking me. I was defending myself and I was even talking with the local police when the cars of the bad guys blew up. Get me out of here." said louder than I should. The doctor left in a hurry.
