I had never hated anything more in that moment than the dress I was forced to wear. And by force, I actually mean forced into. By Pepper and Wanda. When I asked for something totally not of this style, I didn't even expect them to go against my wishes. Unfortunately, my wishes were never fulfilled. Now, I am in a dress that I didn't even want waiting for Peter to get here.
Pepper had already left for the tower. I was looking through my text messages sitting on the couch when the doorbell rang. I grabbed my blue leather jacket and my purse slipping my phone in it before going to the door. I opened it to see Peter standing there.
"Come on in, Pete. It's freezing out." I invited him inside as I slipped on my shoes.
I turned my head to see him still standing there staring at me. I cocked my head to the side staring at him.
"What's wrong, Peter?" I asked you.
"You-uh.. I-i-i. Uh. You look really nice tonight." I smiled at him.
"I'm actually half tempted to go upstairs and change into a skirt and a nice blouse." I admitted.
He chuckled. "Are you ready to go?"
I smiled and grabbed his hand as he led me to the Avengers tower. I already knew the way. Not that Peter knew. I had a striking suspicion he'll find out a good chunk of the secrets I have tonight. Whether it's Tony or Nat or Wanda. I suspect that Tony will tell him everything. When we got to the gala, there was a ton of people already there.
So far, I haven't seen any of the Avengers or Tony. I noticed Peter looking through the crowd.
"Who are you looking for?" I asked him.
"You said you wanted to meet Mr. Stark. I'm looking for him, so you can meet him." Fuck.
"Before we do, can we get something to eat? I'm hungry." I was stalling.
"Yeah. Yeah, we can get food." Peter nodded his head.
We found the food table, but... was that Clint Barton? Wasn't he supposed to be in prison? I internally panicked to myself. Find a way to stall. Find a way to stall. I was slowly starting to freak out, and I hoped Peter thought I was freaking out about fucking Hawkeye.
"On second thought, I'll go on my own, Pete. Why don't you go and find T- Mr. Stark? You probably already ate." I said.
"No. I... uh... I don't want to lose you in this crowd." Peter said.
I looked at him. "I'll be eating food, Pete. Don't need to worry. You can find me by the counter."
I left Peter standing there as I went to the counter. I got one of the nice and shiny plates (you know the ones that you can only get at those expensive five star restaurants) before piling my plate up with food.
"Hi, Clint. Didn't think I would see you here." I told Hawkeye.
"And I thought Tony didn't want you to come to his nice, expensive gala." Clint teased.
"I was seven, and still learning." I retorted.
"Yep, you were, [Y/N]." Clint laughed.
