This chapter is gonna get me punched in the face, I can feel the pain already.
The first person to walk through the door of my bleak hospital room is Drew. He is paler than ever, and has bags under his pale blue eyes. Then, Leslie stumbles in quietly behind him, her glasses still perfectly balanced on her nose. Then, my Mom.
Still no Oliver.
Drew sadly steps aside, allowing my mom to rush toward me. She wrapped her arms around me, tears wiping away her happy glow. Drew and Leslie looked at one another, then at the open door. I could feel their hopes drain as a doctor walked in.
The doctor pulled up a chair, sitting next to my mother. She spoke: "Ma'am... I'm afraid there is not much we can do from here..." The doctor looked at me, "Have you made a final wish?"
I could see Drew breaking into tear behind the doctor, and Leslie placing a shaking hand over her mouth.
I nod to the doctor, leaning closer to whisper into her ear. I could see her confusion as I spoke, but she nodded and scribbled my asking on a clipboard.
One More Day
Sal lays out on a hospital bed, tubes running through him and the oxygen mask on his face.
Beep Beep Beep.
Leslie was the only one their today. Drew and his Mom could not take the sight of his dying body.
"Leslie..." Sal smiled as the familiar girl sat next to him. "Burns...." Leslie smiled and placed a hand on his chest. "Do me a favor, will you?" Sal took Leslies hand and slowly guided it to a large tube full of some kind of liquid. Leslie looked at Sal, "Sure, buddy."
Sal smiled weakly, the muscles in his face barely moving. "Pull the plug."
Leslie pulled her hand toward herself, shocked at what he said. "I c-can't! You-"
"Do it... Please..." Sal's smile faded and tears rolled down his cheeks. Leslie slowly reached her hand up to the tube, "Do it for me..."
She yanked the plug.
beep
...beep
......beep
.........beep
The beeping came to a long hold, and Sal smiled as Leslie stared in horror at what he just told her to do. She simply watched as Sal died. Right there. His life escaped from him with a single breath, and he wanted it.
Doctors and Nurses shoves Leslie to the side as they flooded into the room. She could only stand their, staring at her friend.
