Dance time! Party!
****
“No glitter!” I heard Nova yell out as he ran passed the bathrooms.
I turned my head as Flo ran by with a bag full of gold glitter. For some strange reason, she does this every year to make him sparkle like a mini star. It gets funnier every year because she adds more and more glitter to the costume.
“Look over here.” Joy told me before grabbing my face.
“Why are you putting make-up on me?” I asked her after she took off my glasses.
“I’m not putting a lot on you. Just enough to fix your lashes and show off your eyes. Purple is such a rare color that shines with your light lashes.”
“How did you rope me into this again?” I asked as she moved a weird brush on my lashes.
“Because I was able to get fresh salmon and I have it ready for you when I’m done.”
“Why must you bribe me with food?” I whined at her. “You better not make me look like a girl.”
“Quit complaining or I will use a doll on you,” she put my glasses back on. “Done!”
I looked in the mirror and saw the new me. The red of the hood made my eyes look vibrant and the makeup made my purple eyes stand out under my glasses. It did not make me look girly at all; at most, it just heightened all of my features. I did not even know that I could look like this.
“Thanks, but can whatever ghost possessing you please bring back the Joy I know.”
“Fuck you.” She said with a smile as she gave me the salmon.
The food did not last because, by the time she was done putting everything, I was licking my fingers for the final tastes. I know that she could be sweet sometimes but she treats moments like this as if they were made of gold.
“Hey Joy, have you seen Ash?” Bram said as he walked in. “Damn! You turned him hotter than before. I think I need to keep the other students away from him to keep him safe.”
I got up and patted down my outfit. I was wearing black pants, black heelless boots, a simple tan shirt, and a long red hood. He was giving me a look up and down as a smile grew on his face. I felt like he was undressing me slowly with his eyes because part of my chest was showing. He had a deep red cape rimmed with black, and a small hat on the side of his head that matched. I could not stop laughing when I saw his goofy smile fully; Joy gave me a look before laughing at the sight as well.
“Why are you wearing fake teeth? You have real fangs.” I asked him after I stopped to breathe.
“I know, but it adds to the corniness of the costume.”
“Hold on, I have an idea!” Joy said before going up to me, she pulled up the hood, snipped two holes and then started pulling on my ears. “Don’t move! There!”
My ears twitched as I looked up, and Bram’s face was deep red. I looked in the mirror.
“You look like a cute teddy bear!”
Normally, my ears blended in with the white of my hair, but now, my ears popped out between two holes in the red hood. She picked up her make-up bag and got up from her seat. I finally noticed all of her costume as she fixed her skirt. She looked like a doll with a patchwork dress and drawn on stitches all over her body.
“Well I have to go save my Winged Boy Toy from your feral sister.” She told us before walking out. “I don’t want glitter all over me later.”
“Winged Boy Toy?” Bram said from shock.
I grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the bathroom.
“You better hope that I don’t start calling you something like that.” I told him as we walked to the grand hall.
“I don’t know if I want you to or not. It might scare your brother though and I don’t want to lose the little me before I get a chance to use it.” He lightly blew on my ear at the last word.
I smacked his arm as I attempted to hide my blush.
“Don’t say such things like that in public! Someone might get the wrong idea.”
He smirked at me and I knew that he had an outrageous idea in his head.
“I’ll give the masses something to talk about.” He quickly wrapped his right arm around me and pulled me up to his shoulder.
“Bram, you psychotic vampire! Put me down!”
I saw people whispering while I was hitting his back. I felt like I was going to die from embarrassment.
“Besides, I am willing to wait a thousand years for you. As some may say the longer the time, the better the wine.” He whispered in my ear.
“Bram! Put me down!”
“No.”
“You ass.”
“Thank you, I know it look amazing.” I had to kick him for that.
I thought that he was going to drop me because he leaned forward from the kick. I was so happy that I was not wearing a skirt like Joy recommend. I could hear the sounds of the dance coming closer as he refused to put me down until we got to the door. I fixed the outfit as soon as I touched the ground.
“SUGAR!!!!!!” We heard a breeze yell out as Bram opened the door.
“ALL HAIL THE SUGAR!” A female voice said as she passed by us.
“THE ALL POWERFUL SUGAR!” A male sounding breeze ran pass us.
“Oh great, someone gave candy to sugar trio.” Alex said as he walked up to us.
His costume was a bear; he added fake blond fur and face paint to make himself look more like one. It took me a few looks to realize Viktor was standing next to him. His hair and wings were dyed black and he had a feathered mask with black beak attached to it. He even had black nail polish on to make his nails look like talons. That would be difficult to get rid of the color.
“Whose idea was that?” I asked as we walked together into the Dining hall.
“No one guarded the candy from them.” Viktor said as he reached over and put his arm over Alex’s shoulder.
Flo, Anna, and Bruce are nicknamed ‘The Sugar Trio’ because they can go into a blackout craze from having too much sugar. We are still repairing part of the village from the damage, three years ago.
“Just wait for the sugar crash; they’ll sleep like the dead.” Bram told us. “Happens every time.”
“True, but I don’t feel like dragging their bodies to their beds.” Alex said before he walked away with Viktor.
“Ash, let’s go dance.” Bram asked me as he grabbed my hand.
I looked at the dancers with the way they danced with freedom of their own bodies. The music was fast and it felt chaotic to me. I did not want to be part of that weird dancing.
“No thanks.”
“Later tonight, could I get at least one dance from you?”
I glared at him until I noticed how he was slowly moving to the beat.
“Why don’t you dance for a while, then I’ll join you later?”
The sparkle in his eyes appeared and he kissed my cheek.
“I’m coming back if they play a slower song, I know you like those better.”
He walked away and I felt torn because of our relationship. It is so sweet that he knows so much about everything I like because we were friends for so long. However, it is also horrifying because he knows all the bad about me from being friends for so long.
“After the insanity, it seems odd for everyone to be happy here.” Someone said behind me. “It feels like they forgot what happened just a few weeks ago.”
“They are stopping the past from dictating their futures. Those who were hurt from this are thanking themselves for being alive today.” I told the person as I heard them moving closer to me.
I could not stop the flinch as I saw it was Edward. The one that made me almost drown in the beginning of the year. He was wearing an old army uniform from the war; it could be his grandfather’s or even his father’s old uniform.
“I’m not here to fight.” He raised his hands in surrender. “I came to ask for help.”
I tried hiding my laugh at the image that Edward made with his stance and costume.
“You do realize I’m one of those werebeasts that should have died at birth as you put it so nicely before.”
“I’m sorry about that; I’m decided to change from my old ideals. Because I need your help. My younger sister sent me a letter four days ago and told me that she found out that she has a magical ability.”
I felt bad for him because I could tell what kind of household came from, many of the villagers are like his.
“Is your family full of non-human haters?”
“Yes, and now I’m worried for her because her twin brother hates non-humans even more than I originally did. She could die this summer because of him.”
I reached over and patted his shoulder. The poor girl must have terrible luck to get magic in a family like that.
“I do have some advice; take her out into the woods during the summer at least twice a week to practice her gift. That way she has a low chance to lose control. How old is she?”
“Fourteen and she is planning on coming here next year.” The look on his face as he thought of his sister made him look nicer than before. “There is only two problems with that. She was born blind and she has visions as her ability. It sounds a little random when she has them. But I can try to hide them by learning the signs.”
After hearing that sad story, I had a double crazy and insane idea.
“Before this year ends, you could talk to Foxglove about your sister and you could have magic class with her to learn what to do when she has the visions. I’ll let you borrow my magic textbook to help her until the end of the school year.”
I was surprised when he hugged me.
“Thank you for your help. She was right about you can help!”
“She told you to seek out my help?”
“Yep, she had a vision and she told me that you are one to see change. Not hundred percent sure what she meant. Since she described you as a pale bear with the wisdom of an ashen tree.”
“That sounds like a seer; there is a full chapter on their sect of magic in the textbook.”
He walked away as the song changed to one of my favorites. A song with a nice mix of slow and fast that reminded me of Bram walking into my room as I danced to it.
“My darling starlight, you said you would dance with me tonight and I said I’ll get you at a slower song.”
Bram came over and he reminded me of a dark prince with his hat and cape, then I realized that he was my dark prince. He gave me his hand and I took it. He pulled me close and we started to dance to the song.
“Ash, I promise that I will do my best to protect you even if it means my death.”
“Don’t make a promise that you can’t keep. Besides, I would rather die with you than watch you die for me. It would break me to lose you because of me.”
I glared at him as he laughed at me.
“I try to be romantic and you act selfless. This is why I had such a big crush on you.”
I suddenly hated the fact that he was a few inches taller than I was. I lightly stepped on his foot to make him lean forward. I pulled him into a kiss to stop his laughter.
“Stop being so romantic all the time, and let me be romantic sometimes.” I told him after I pulled out of the kiss.
He leaned his chin on my forehead and I could feel his smile.
“Sounds like fun, I would love to see that. My sweet starlight.”
“My dark prince.” He started to laugh again. “I try to be romantic with a nickname and you laugh.”
“I’m sorry but it sounded so kind coming from your mouth that it surprised me. It was too sweet for you to use to describe me.”
He started quietly singing along to the song and I love how his words sounded so pure and full of love. He is so shy with his voice that he never tries to sing in public. I felt sad as the song ended and I moved away because I did not want to be stuck in the crowd. I kept a hold on Bram’s hand as we walked away.
“I have something to show you, follow me.”
We moved around the crowd as we started to leave the dining hall. He was looking around as he followed behind me.
“Where are we going?”
We walked up the stairs and to a right. Earlier in the day, I carefully prepared this surprise for him.
“Remember what I said when we were captured? That’s where we are going.” He perked up at my words.
We finally got up to one of the levels high enough to reach the roofs. I opened one the windows and slowly climbed out. Bram followed behind me until I stopped.
“Oh gods above, you spoil me.”
On a flat part of the roof, there was a dark green blanket was covered various foods and drinks. I chose the blanket because it reminded me of his dark green eyes. I grabbed his hand and we slowly slid down to the blanket. It was a little chiller now than it was when I fixed it up. The first thing he grabbed was the blood as I grabbed a few cherries. I watched in the corner of my eye, Bram’s reaction, as I put a whole cherry in my mouth. After a few seconds, I pulled out the stem and it was knotted in the middle.
“I love you so much,” was all I heard before Bram pounced on me with a kiss.
It felt like he poured all his love and lust into that one kiss and I felt ecstatic that it was for me. I returned the kiss with as much passion I had in my body. I felt his hands move the hood so he could wrap his fingers in my hair. I wrapped my arms around his neck as I realized he would never stop tasting like chocolate.****
