You and Miyuki reached the Hoshizora's household.
Miyuki quickly ran up the steps and held open the door for you. You thanked her and stepped inside.
Mrs. Hoshizora reacted to you instantly. "Oh my goodness! What happened to you?!"
It was at this point when you finally took a good look at yourself. Your ragged clothes, your dirty hair, wet cheeks. You were an actual mess. You cringed when you realized you had just walked into somebody's house, looking all dirty.
Miyuki, luckily had you covered. "Mom, I'll explain myself later."
"Is she homeless?" You rolled your eyes.
"Mom, I'll explain later." Miyuki said. You and Miyuki ran upstairs together. Miyuki took you into her room and you were greeted with a small pastel pink decor.
"You must be exhausted, right?" Miyuki asked, noticing the bags under your eyes and the way you yawned occasionally. You nodded. Miyuki headed into the closet and pulled out a fresh pair of pajamas for you. She showed you to the bathroom and you changed out of your dirty clothes.
"Since you'll be sleeping here tonight, you can sleep in my bed and I'll sleep downstairs." Miyuki said.
"Actually..."
"Hm?"
"C-could we sleep in the same room? I don't really feel comfortable alone." After all, the only person who you ever really got to know, before Miyuki, was Ms. Brown.
"Of course." Miyuki said. "Just, after I explain everything to my mom."
You nodded as Miyuki closed the door behind her. You walked over to the window and gazed outside. Your room in the orphanage didn't have any windows, so it was nice to get to see more of the outside world.
Outside, the full moon lit up whatever would be shrouded in darkness. The street glistened, the puddles shone in the light of the moon.
Then, when all seemed peaceful, a flash of red caught your eye. For a split second, you thought it was Joker's red eyes that you were greeted with earlier that day. But then, a flash of blue dashed through your mind.
The police.
You heart had skipped a beat. Then, it began to speed up at about twice it's normal speed.
Had Ms. Brown noticed you were gone? If so, the police were most likely looking for, none other than, you. Why would Ms. Brown want you back in your orphanage? But the real question was, did they know where you were?
You jumped up as the door had swung open, but fortunately it was greeted with a familiar face. "Is something wrong, y/n?" Miyuki asked, seeing your widened eyes and panicked expression.
"N-no. It's nothing. Anyways, what did you tell your mom?"
"I just told her that you were escaping from an evil orphanage." Miyuki stated flatly,
"What!? Real-"
Miyuki giggled. "Nope, I just told her that you were a friend who wanted to stay the night. My mom was kinda mad at first for not telling me in advance, but she quickly forgave me."
You sighed, that gave you one less thing to worry about.
"Are you ready for bed, Y/n?" Miyuki asked.
You nodded and sat down in the bed.
But just when one problem was gone, another one popped up.
"Omigosh, Y/n! What's up with this?" Miyuki exclaimed. Miyuki glanced down at your wrists. The white bandages wrapped around your wrists were stained a dark red-almost brown color. "How did I not notice these before?!"
Miyuki gently grabbed both of your wrists and held them up. Miyuki gave you a questioning look before you nodded that it was okay to take the bandages off. Tiny slits were on your wrists from your cutting earlier that day.
"Y/n..." Miyuki sighed. She kept saying your name over and over again as she held your wrists in her hands. "Why? Why do you do this to yourself, y/n?"
"Miyuki... I... I can explain." You said as Miyuki gently stroked your burning cheeks. "I have this feeling... I-I get this feeling a lot of times... It makes me feel really, really bad. So bad that I... I just want to..."
"Y/n."
"I really felt like I..."
"Y/n."
"I just want to..."
"Y/n!"
"I just want to die!!!" You yelled.
Silence.
You finally told someone how you actually felt. You felt, better. But at the same time, you felt worse. You didn't want to bring Miyuki into all of your problems. You didn't want to be the weak one who had to get support from everyone else.
Miyuki gazed at you for moments. You felt uncomfortable as she slowly eyed you. Her mind was piecing everything together, the cuts, the negative energy, the orphanage. Everything started to make sense.
Just when you thought you would start to break from the words you spoke, and the empathetic look, Miyuki decided to speak up.
"If you ever feel like you need to talk to somebody. Well, you can talk to me. You can stay here with me too. You don't have to do anything that abusive orphanage owner does. You don't have to bow down to Joker. And most of all," Miyuki re-positioned herself closer to you. "You don't have to take your own life."
You really took a good look at Miyuki this time. You could see her whole body. The lighting was fairly bright. She looked pretty in the moonlight, but she looked even better when she comforted you.
Miyuki leaned over so that you were barely inches from her face. "Smile!" She flashed you a contagious grin.
It was impossible to not smile back at her. Your lips started to curve slightly. After the speech she just gave, she said one simple word, and then smiled happily.
Miyuki took two fingers and placed them on the ends of your lips. She carefully pulled them apart, making your smile go wider. She let go and your smile stayed in place. Then, as if on cue, you two began to crack up together.
When your laughter slowly got quieter, you began to feel tired. Your day seemed really long. Going to school and back, the beating, and a weird dream followed by encountering Joker, meeting Miyuki, leading up to this.
Miyuki pulled the covers over the both of you. She then reached over and clicked out the lamp's light.
And to think, tonight would be the first night without worries or concerns. Besides, you were with your only friend. The only familiar face you knew.
