Little seven-year-old Fern woke up with a start and started crying a little. She'd had a nightmare. She thought about it as she tried to hold back tears. Liyah had run away from her, and Raine too, though that wasn't as bad. She barely knew Raine, but Liyah...
"Liyah?" she asked quietly
She watched as Liyah silently got out of her bed two down in the row. Raine woke up but closed her eyes again.
"Yes, Fern?" Liyah asked, looking worried, though she was glancing over at Raine too.
"I-I had a nightmare," Fern stuttered.
"Awwww. It's okay. What was it about?" Liyah sat on the end of Fern's bed.
Winter came over from across the room.
"Well, you were in it. And you—you left me! You and Raine!"
"Quiet!" hissed some seventeen-year-old.
"Was I in it?" Winter asked.
"No, you weren't in it," Fern smiled then cried again. "But Liyah, you left me! Promise me you'll never do that."
"I promise," Liyah smiled, and though Fern didn't see it, she was staring at Raine, barely paying attention.
Shade awoke with a start. That nightmare she'd had about five years ago was true, she realized. Liyah had left her. Raine had left her. Winter—well Illusion—hadn't. And now, so had her aunt. And it was all Liyah's fault.
