I've had the biggest crush on Shayne for almost 2 years now. My friends smirked and turned in my direction. I gulped. What evil scheme were they planning? They both know how much I like him. They both rose to their feet, towering over me, both with an evil grin planted on their face. I jumped at their feet and grabbed their legs before they could move an inch. I crawled to my feet, staring at them. They were both still grinning. "Whatever you two are thinking about, better not have to do with me, or him," I said sternly, glaring in Shayne's direction. They both exchanged looks; I knew they were up to something. "Okay you two," I began, looking concerned. "I'm going to be right back, and when I return, you better be right here." I ran off and dug through my bag for my phone. Every second I was gone, I wondered what they were doing. What could they be doing? Perhaps telling Shayne how I feel about him!! Oh god! I ditched my bag, and bolted back.
When I arrived, both of them were patiently sitting, right where I told them to. I eyed their surroundings: Shayne was still hanging with his friends on the other side of the park. He wasn't vomiting or attempting to kill himself so that means they didn't tell him I liked him. But something still smelled fishy. I looked at the two criminals I call "friends" and stared right into their eyes. They smirked. "I guess you got away with it this time. But trust me, I'll find out what you two are up to," I said, still trying to figure out what's going on.
I sat down next to them. "Ouch!" I yelled, pulling something hard from underneath me. "Well, I found my phone. I guess I was sitting on it. But I swear I put it in my bag," I said, thinking. Marina and Stella started to giggle. Their giggles turned into loud, obnoxious laughter. I couldn't help but laugh with them. "What're you two idiots laughing about?!" I said, trying not to hide my smile. "Look on your phone and find out!" Marina shouted. I clicked on my phone and went through it. Nothing was different. "What's so funny? What did you guys do to my phone?!" I yelled. "Hahaha look through your contacts," Stella giggled. I did as told. I opened up my contacts. Suddenly, a sigh of relief and a sigh of anger fled from my body. This, is what they were hiding from me? A majority of my contacts were all set to pictures of cats. We all laughed together. What a stupid thing. Of course they wouldn't tell the guy I like that I like him! What was I thinking? "When did you guys have time to do this?! I wasn't gone for that long when I tried to look for my phone," I asked, puzzled. "The world may never know!" Stella shouted. We all laughed together again. They're both such dorks. But they're my dorks.
After we stopped laughing at the stupid prank I realized I got a message. It was from my mom. She said she's on her way! I ran back and snatched my bag.
"What's going on Chris?" Marina asked. "My mom says she's on her way," I whined. Stella snatched my phone from me.
"Chris, your mom sent this to you like 45 minutes ago," Stella said, sounding worried. "Well, that's impossible. The park is only like 5 minutes from our house."
"Maybe she just got a flat tire or something," Marina suggested.
"But she would call me or at least text me. I need to call her," I said, proceeding to dial her number. The phone rang and rang and rang. No answer. I called again- Still no answer. I left a voicemail. I decided to call my dad.
"Yes dear?" A voice answered."Dad?" I said. I was so worried. I wonder what mom is doing.
"Of course who else? Is everything alright pumpkin?"
"I don't know. Mom said she was on her way like an hour ago. There's still no sign of her. I called her like three times and even left a voicemail, she never picked up. Do you know where she is? Is she okay?"
My dad was silent for a bit.
"I'm sure she's fine, sweetie. Don't worry. I'll pick you up. I'm getting out of work in about an hour. You'll be okay right?"
"Of course dad. I'll be fine," I said softly. "Bye, see you soon. Love you." I hung up.
"I guess I'll be here a little longer, guys," I said, frowning.
"You say it like it's a bad thing," Stella said.
"I'm just worried that's all."
"Hey cheer up Chrissy! I'm sure your mom is fine," Marina said cheerfully.
"Yeah! Look on the bright side, you get to spend more time with us!" Stella said, making jazz hands. I smiled and put all the bad thoughts behind me. My friends are right, my mom will be fine. I'm just thinking of the worst when I should be thinking of the best! She's fine. I'm just worrying too much.
My dad's car screeches into the parking lot. He's 20 minutes early, he never gets out of work this early. Also he never drives like that, he almost hit the curb. I say goodbye to my friends and start walking to the car. He sticks his head out the window. "CHRISTINA HURRY UP!!!" He screamed. I walk faster. What's up with him? He was in a good mood before. I jump into the car. He quickly pulls out of the parking lot, before I even get my seatbelt on. We speed down the road. Whatever happened at work better not have been good. We race down the road, passing the road to our house! "Where are we going dad?!" I said, nervously. "Christina, I don't know how to tell you this but mom's been into a serious car accident," he said, his hands working nervously on the steering wheel. I swallowed hard."We're going to the hospital."
