He hears the door open and listens to the sounds of the wood creaking under his mother's feet with every step she took. She makes her way to the dining room and sits down in the chair opposite of Eli. He takes a deep breath.
"Grandpa told me somethings about grandma and though it was to help himself... it helped me. It helped me realize I have to do what's right for me no matter what you think." He paused and stared at his mother. His mother opened her mouth to speak. Eli interrupted,"I'm not going to join the family business and I don't like girls." Eli mumbles that last part.
"Eli I've never been happy about it, but I assumed you didn't want to follow after your father and I, but I didn't quite understand that last part."
"Mom...I'm gay." He finally confessed. She runs her hands through her hair, ruining her perfect bun. Eli's mother starts rapidly tapping her hand on the table, eventually escalating to her slamming her hand down on the table.
"No you aren't I can still make you join the business, we can still be the perfect family. Eli you know I have nothing against them, but you can't be one!" She protested. Eli sat there looking down as his mother snapped, her perfect persona came crumbling down.
"You have nothing against them, please you can't even bring yourself to say the word! I'm gay mom and there is nothing you can do to change that and there is no way in hell I would ever work with you and dad!" His mother sits there mumbling under her breath trying to comprehend what is happening. Eli's curly hair pointing in every direction as he breathes heavily trying to decide what he's going to do next. She finally gets up and looks at him anger filling her eyes.
"No no no no no no no! I know this isn't you, "She smiled crazily,"It can't be it just can't be! I can help you Eli, m-mommy can help you. J-just tell me what son of a bitch did this to you!"
"How dare you speak of him like that! You don't even know him!" Eli protested. His fist slammed down on the table, he could feel chips of wood pushing up against his skin as the room grew silent. Her glassy eyes stare down at the pattern on the floor; black then white. The waterfall of tears that rushed down her cheeks ended, leaving behind tear stains and reddened eyes.
He had finally snapped, "He didn't do anything besides be there for me, which is more than I can say for you and your cheating husband! So you will no sit here and talk about him because you can't handle having a gay son!"
"I will not tolerate you talking about your father like that! If you are under this roof you will respect your father." As she said these words there was a pain in her eyes that he couldn't understand. But his mother had just put a new mask on display and the pain that was once in her eyes seemed to vanish in an instant.
Eli took a deep breath in, "Then I guess I just won't live under this roof anymore." He gets up from the table and makes his way up the stairs and up to his room, as tears begin to form in his eyes. His mother began to sob uncontrollably, no one there to comfort her as she tried to beg for Eli to come back. Every heavy gasp of air dedicated to the hope that Eli would turn around. But the boy continued to slowly fade, just like his mother's cries. He called his boyfriend for a ride. While he waited he picked up a paper and pencil, his eyes dripping as he stares at a blank paper. I can finally write my essay.
