The river raced throughout the forest, its various twists and turns acting as yet more obstacles that blocked my path. And like the many others, I would easily use my 3DMG gear to swerve around them, laughing at the amount of fun such a simple and frequent activity could give off.
Today is a Thursday, the day of the week Jean and I agreed to sneak off to spend time with each other. And like every Thursday, we had to go at separate times so that we would not risk being seen or caught.
You see, Jean and I have been secretly dating for a little over a year now. We've kept it a secret because, well, the trainee corps just love to spread unnecessary rumors and gossip. And if the general were to find out that two of his cadets were sneaking off just for a little date....Why, all hell would break loose!! That man would probably send Jean and I home on the spot!!
Finally arriving at my destination, I stopped to take in the beauty of it all. Jean had found this secluded spot, a hill overseeing the nearby town, while we were training a few months back. There was an amazing view of the sunrise as it crept over the walls that engulfed the town. One by one, smoke started coming from each chimney, signaling a family awakening and getting ready for the day ahead. A few stray cats wondered over the rooftops, chasing off any birds they could find. And the sound of the hourly bells echoed throughout the pleasant air.
"Marco?" A familiar voice called out from below, earning a smile from myself.
"Up here, Jean!" I called from my position in a tree, jumping down only to be caught and embraced in his strong arms.
"For a moment there, I thought you weren't going to show up....," The man mumbled out, letting a slight pout form on his quivering lips as he tried to play the innocent card on me.
'You're the one who was late~" I stated, snaking my arms around his firm neck, earning a smirk from my beloved boyfriend.
"Ops~" Jean laughed lightly, slowly leaning down and allowing our lips to meet. At first I was taken aback by the sudden kiss, but I soon found myself embracing it. Letting our lips dance against each other like it was pure magic. One can not simply describe the feelings I had rushing through me at this very moment....From the butterflies in my stomach to the tingling in my lips....I guess a word to describe it would be pure bliss.
"I made you something~," Jean spoke softly against my lips, slowly pulling away and digging around in his pockets.
Before long, he pulled out two perfectly round stones, each with a string attached to them. Smiling, he gently placed one in my hands, allowing me to take a closer look at it. Upon closer inspection, I saw that said stone had 'JM' carved into it.
"I have the same one....," Jean spoke up, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand and using the other to hold up the other rock, "I uh....I heard you were into this kind of romantic thing....Right?" He asked, a panicked look spreading across his pale face.
"Yes~!" I cheered, tacking my boyfriend into a tight hug, "I do~ And thank you....Jean....I love it~ I-I love you...." Blushing, I planted a soft kiss on his cheek as I laid on top of him, staring into his deep, amber eyes.
"Yeah, I love you too, dork~"
"Hey, Jean?" I asked, resting my head on his chest as he began to play with my soft, raven locks.
"Hm?"
"One day....I want to live outside the walls with you.....Maybe in a little cabin out in the woods....We can get a dog and adopt a kid.....We could be truly happy...."
"Marco....," Jean froze, taking a movement to think before speaking again, "I promise you....We'll live that happy life outside the walls one day, okay?"
"Ok~!"
[ A few short months later, the morning after Jean and Marco had graduated from the 104th trainee corps, titans infiltrated the city. The trainee corps were ordered to stand up to the titans as the city was evacuated. Many lives were lost, including the life of Marco Bodt ]
"Excuse me, sir?" A nurse asked, approaching me as I starred blankly at the corpse at my feet, "Do you happen to know the identity of this man?"
"That's.....Marco Bodt, of the one hundred and fourth trainee corpse....," I barely managed to spit out as a lump filled my throat and I fell to my knees, "My Marco...."
"So, you two were good friends? I'm sorry about your loss.....But, we need to burn the body...."
I remained silent as I began shaking uncontrollably, tears racing down my face as I continued to stare at the warped body of my lover, "M-Marco.....," I stuttered out, reaching over and pulling a necklace out from underneath his shirt. The rock I had given him a few months back, the rock that had not only our initials, but our promise to be together forever, was now soaked in the blood of the man I loved.
Quickly, I secretly took the necklace and stuffed it in my pocket, brushing some hair out of Marco's face as some fellow trainees dragged his body away, "Marco....I swear to you, one day, I'll life beyond the walls.....Just for you....I'll keep fighting to keep my promise to you....I'll get that cabin and that dog and I swear....A-And a little boy I promise to name after you....I'll stay happy just for you....My dear Marco," I began whimpering like a hurt puppy, burying my face in my gloved hands as more sobs escaped my lips, "I love you!!"
