When Sahara's phone alarm went off this morning, she was not in the greatest of mood. Last night's events at the restaurant took a toll on her, physically and mentally. She didn't realized how much her nerves were bunched up until she took her cold shower. Cold showers always helped her clear her anxiety.
The nerve he had! As if he was any better than Sahara and her family. Sahara made a mental note to stay clear from Daniel at school, at least until her dad got the go for the new restaurant, because if she and Daniel were to come face to face, she doesn't know if she can feign being her polite self.
Sahara turns onto her stomach, blowing out a breath of stress, dreading another day of school. She began tugging on one of her braids, feeling unprepared for her Data quiz. No matter how long she studied for, or redid the class practice sheets, nothing was registering to her brain. She would just have to wing it today.
She sat up in her bed, slouching her shoulders and then, she inhaled; the smell of bacon that surrounding her. Sometimes, during the week she can smell bacon in the mornings but it was usually from when her dad fried them earlier, for she and her brothers when they woke up for school.
But today was different.
Glee began to rush through her body at a hyper speed, anticipation jolting in her veins. Her dad was home; frying fresh bacon. She jolted off of her bed, flung open her door almost running into Russell. Sahara and Russell locked eyes, then he speeded down the steps yelling; FRESH BACON.
Sahara giggled, following behind her brother, with Teodor on her tail. As Sahara reached the last step, Teodor bolted pass her and into a seat beside Russell and Quamar at the kitchen table. Her father turned around with a pan of bacon strips, his small eyes widening.
"Whoa, all four of my kids, downstairs by," he turned to check the clock on the oven. "By six thirty. I have to say, very impressive."
He looked over at Sahara who was resting her body against the kitchen counter, his brown eyes addressing her choice of wardrobe attire. Everyone glanced at her outfit; a pair of old, green soccer shorts, that had tips and tears in them and a 3/4 sleeves Sesame Street shirt.
"I really like what you did with your look today Beara. Much improvement," Quamar says, giving her a thumbs up. Sahara picked up an empty orange juice box and flung it at Quamar, who dodged it, resulting in it hitting Teodor. Castor chuckled softly shaking at his kids constant bickering and antics. He was always happy when they were all together.
"Oh shut up," Sahara replies back, taking a seat across from him. They sat there, hands drumming the sides of the table, legs swinging forward and back as they wait for their dad to bring them each a plate like he did when they were younger.
Their dad carried their plates, two on each arm, placing each plate down at each of his children respectively. The kids applauded his service as Castro bowed, with one arm in front, and the other swinging high above his head. Sahara smiled, marvelling over the memory when they first started this small tradition.
"Efharisto(Thank You)."
Teodor and Quamar began digging in their plates as if it was their last meal, while Sahara observed in disgust. Castro placed a rose that was on the counter into a vase. He began to arrange a plate of food and the vase onto a tray, standing back admiring the tray's composition.
