Notes at the end

(Y/N) POV

Many days had passed since Sverngård. We were still in Valkenheim but the snow was getting less so we were close to the border. It shouldn't take much longer until we were back in Ashfeld.

That night after the battle where we realized what mistakes we made in joining Apollyon, the four of us swore to put an end to her and her plans.

Holden, Stone, and Mercy stayed with the Legion to get intel and wait for when the right moment to strike comes, while I would be gathering men for an army. My plan was to rebuild the Iron Legion. Their banner was associated with honour and safety for our people, at least until the Blackstone Legion came and took its place.

I followed the Legion the way from where we came. I was always on guard, trying not to get spotted by any scouts while trying to keep up. Every night I set up my own camp not too far away from the Legion and every night Mercy visited me to make sure I was alright. With every time she showed up we talked a little longer. I grew to like spending time with her more and more. Eventually, it changed form only liking to spend time with her to liking her.

I mean I am not as dense as these main characters in some books...

'Enough thinking' I thought (how ironic). 'Where is Mercy? She should have been here by now.'

I stood up from the ground and grabbed my sword. I looked around slowly getting worried. She never was late.

I walked through the dark forest as silent as possible towards the camp, constantly looking around for guards.

With every step I came closer to the camp I became more uneasy, and it felt like I was already being watched.

I wasn't far from the camp as suddenly I was pulled backwards by someone grabbing onto my neck armour and fell into a bush.

„What are you doing??" Whispered the person. Thankfully it was Mercy.

„Looking for you." I replied.

Mercy: „Impatient as ever..." she mumbled.

„Hey! I just wanted to make sure you were ok. We have to watch each other's backs in these times, don't we?" I said in my defence.

Mercy: „I guess you're right..." she admitted. „But still, that was too risky..."

„Maybe. Can we just go to the camp first?"

Mercy: „Fine. But don't do something like that again as long as we're still here."

„I promise."

She stood up and looked around. She made a small gesture to show me that it was all clear. I stood up too and we walked to my camp.

We arrived there without any trouble. I placed my sword and helmet in a small makeshift tent and sat down, leaning against a nearby tree.
Mercy sat down beside me, taking her mask off.

Mercy: „Did you really have to go look for me? You know I can handle myself."

„I do but, I was worried." I said looking at her. There I noticed a slight bit of red on her cheeks. She seemed to notice too and looked away.

Mercy: „S-Still don't do it again. It's too dangerous..." she murmured.

„I'll promise, at least we should be back in Ashfeld in a few days..."

Mercy: „If the others keep up their speed we'll possibly be there by tomorrow evening."

„Hopefully," I added. „Any news from the others?"
