"We have to find (Y/N). She is in danger." Steve complained for the umpteenth time.
The Captain's constant nagging was having a disastrous effect on Sam's temper. Living with Dean all his life had made him accustomed to obstinacy but obstinacy combined with implausibly was a rare encounter. "Not in more danger than you!" He snapped, "I get it, you haven't heard the word 'no' in about a hundred years, you don't think it exists for you but for once in your life can you just listen to someone who knows what they're talking about and stay put?!"
Dean digested the incident with raised brows. He didn't know his brother to be the kind of person who would outwardly show rage, he knew him to be more of s person who would continue to throw shade until the other party died of vitamin D deficiency. "He's right, (Y/N) can take care of herself. Y'all need to stay here where we can see you because we don't want a possessed Avenger on our hands. You're bad enough as it is." He mumbled the last part under his breath.
Clint waited for the tension in the room to die down a little to avoid being on the receiving end of a brusque comment in lieu of his question. "Is it just me or does anybody else notice that Tasha's not here either?"
"Never mind, she's here. That's the kind of quick thinking that'll get you dead in three seconds flat." Natasha charged in with you in immediate tow. "You can claw at his face later, Nat." You addressed the issue at hand, "For now, we have bigger problems. Abyzma is here."
"We know. Don't ask how, long story." Sam knew he did not have any time to waste, Abyzma could be preparing to attack any moment. "(Y/N), the thing is we don't have any of our gear with us except for our blades and if we go down to the garage to get anything out of the car, we might as well leave the team to die! They're fish in a barrel here."
Sam's words had hit your ears, they had even penetrated your understanding, but you had noticed an oddity in the room that had knocked the wind right out of your chest. "Where's Tony?" You asked in a breathless whisper.
"He...he was here with us before the lights went out." Wanda decided to be the voice in a room full of pivoting heads.
You sucked in a harsh breath, feeling overpowered by the monstrosity of the situation. "You are capable, you are powerful, you have hair better than Sam's. You can do this." You paced back and forth, giving yourself your own pep talk. "Alright, giddy up."
A pained groan escaped your lips as the air around you lit up in gold bright enough to deceive fire, which you immediately manipulated with your fingers to move away from yourself and ultimately encircle the Avengers. "This ring is your first and only defense against Abyzma, stay inside at all costs." You warned. "Now, if I were an unhinged rebellious she-devil out for revenge, where would I go?"
-
Tony woke up with a dull throbbing sensation in his head. Quickly assessing his surroundings, he concluded that he must be on one of the top levels of the tower on account of the room looking like an empty warehouse due to the lack of furniture. Also, the view from the window made everything on the ground look ant-sized.
"I was hoping we could do this while you were still out. It's a shame you had to wake up." Tony had trouble locating the source of the voice in the darkness. When he did, he squeezed his eyes shut, regretting making the effort in the first place.
It was the red haired woman who had been relentlessly haunting his thoughts; she also happened to be the absolute last thing in existence he wished to run into ever again in his entire life. Tony had been a victim of paranoia ever since the events of New York and he had never been more thankful for it. The paranoia was the reason he always wore the Iron Man bracelet which was now turning into a gauntlet to provide him with protection until the rest of the suit arrived. Without warning, he fired a repulser beam at Abyzma, throwing her halfway across the room.
"How long is that supposed to hold me back?" The demon stood up without a scratch, smoothing the creases of her pantsuit. Out of the corner of his eye, Tony could see the rest of his armour making its way up to his floor. "Long enough."
The Iron Man armour steered in through the glass window, shattering it in the process, and enveloping Tony from head to toe. As soon as the grooves clicked in place, he took flight in an attempt to distance himself from Abyzma as far as possible relying on the prerequisite that she herself couldn't fly.
"That's enough!" Abyzma roared. She put her hand up and harshly jerked it down, mirroring which Iron Man crashed to the ground as well, with a lot more impetus than Tony would have anticipated.
"You're precious." Abyzma rasped. Digging her fingers in the armour, she ripped the helmet off. "With all your money, I can recreate my hybrids since you destroyed them all but that's not why you are special. You can give me the one thing no one else in the world can - power over (Y/N). I have seen the helplessness in her eyes, watched her squirm because she cannot lift a finger against your fragile little body. You and I together, Stark, are going to conquer heaven, hell and everything in between. That is why I brought you here, alone. Let's give golden girl a run for her money."
"Yeah but we're not, alone. Someone is listening. She heard every vile word you just said. I know you fear her, I have felt each fiber of your being crawl at her mere voice." Tony had given up thrashing under Abyzma, on account of the latter being freakishly strong, "She's coming. And she's going to devour you whole."
Judging from the way you had been avoiding him like the plague since yesterday, Tony was doubtful you were even aware of his absence, let alone on the lookout for him. He was just stalling, buying himself time until someone found him and got help or before he became the weapon of mass destruction, which did not seem like a farfetched possibility at the moment.
"I'll have to make this quick then." A thin veil of black smoke spewed out of Abyzma's mouth. Surprisingly, even as doom was staring at him right in the face, Tony found himself praying; not to God or any other omnipotent entity for that matter but to you. If not to save him from his bedeviled fate then simply just so he could see you one last time before free will was made an illusion for him. Even as prayer after prayer fled from his soul, he knew they were far from being answered.
"You know, you shouldn't be climbing on top of other people's fiancés. Get your own." The back wall collapsed under the pressure of golden waves and you barreled headlong for Abyzma, knocking her off Tony and dragging her all the way to the other side of the room, also halfway into the floor.
"Goddamn, (Y/N), you have intangibility! Really could have saved my wall there." Tony spoke as soon as he felt the crushing weight lift off his chest. Standing up and brushing yourself off, you resisted the urge of glaring at Tony, fearing that turning your head away from the demon below you would give her a chance to pull off some nasty trick. "My apologies. I'll be sure to prioritize your wall over your life from now on."
"Please, try and fight me. I'm really looking forward to see how that one goes." You held your hand out, sending golden swivels dancing from your fingertips to Abyzma's neck, holding her in place. Her vision rested anywhere but on your glowing gold eyes and her tone held the defiance of a candle that burns the brightest before going out. "What are you waiting for? Finish it."
"After what you have done to me and shellhead over here, there's nothing I would love more than to dismantle your existence molecule by molecule and place each one in a separate void away from time and space," Your eyes darkened as you held Tony's hand, terrified of the new feeling of your obligation to avenge him, "but your punishment will better come from someone who would torture you with torture that no one in the history of torture has been tortured with."
"No! No, no, kill me here if you want but do not send me back to hell. Crowley will tear me apart limb from lim-" Abyzma backed away as she pleaded but you were stripped of all mercy.
"Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus..."
