Lucy opened her eyes to the morning sunlight beaming through the cabin window, her arms stretched across the bed. No longer feeling Tommy there, she opened her eyes.
He was getting dressed. After pulling on his sweater, he noticed that she was awake. He sat down on the bed, tucking her curls back.
"Look who it is," he husked, watching her eyes flutter open and closed. "I didn't want to wake you."
Picking up her hand, he intertwined her fingers with his, and she smiled.
"So, what's on the agenda for today?" she asked him, her voice somewhat foggy.
Tommy shrugged his shoulders. "Whatever your heart desires, Miss Lucy. We could hang around with the others, go for one of our famous walks, pray--"
"Pray?" she frowned, laughing at his humour.
"Not much for us down here, but we can go to mass or whatever it's called."
"No thank you, kindly," she denied, sitting up. "I've been singing Eternal Father for as long as I can remember."
"Shall we start with gettin' somethin' to eat?" he offered, and she nodded.
"Definitely," she said, climbing out of bed to choose a dress from her suitcase. She had only brought a couple, the lightest ones. "So, just to be sure, it's not a normal thing to change clothes several times a day?"
"I'm not doin' your laundry for you, so, definitely not," Tommy joked. He peered over her shoulder at her options. "What about this one?"
She tilted her head. "I only brought it due to the colour scheme. It won't stand out as much."
It was a copper colour, just about redder than her hair. It had long sleeves, a frilly creme cuff at the end of each.
"Wear it," he told her. "I think you'd look lovely."
"All right," she agreed. "Your people aren't going to cast me out, are they?"
"Not bloody likely," he scoffed. "After yesterday in the general room and last night, I think it's safe to say that you're one of us."
The two left the cabin and made their way to breakfast. The room didn't smell of butter, but fresh wood and linen, Lucy was already quite happy with it.
There were two free seats at Jack and Fabrizio's table, opposite them. The two sat down.
Fabrizio was, as usual, more than happy to see his friends, but Jack seemed to be incredibly out of it.
"What you gonna eat?" Tommy asked Lucy who pursed her lips together.
"Surprise me," she said, and with that he went off to get their food.
"What's the matter, Jack?" Lucy asked when she couldn't bare see his glum expression any longer.
He inhaled hard, joining his hands on the table. "I s'ppose I'm wishing Rose came with you last night."
Lucy's face fell, and she nodded. "Me too, Jack. I think she'll be okay, though. She has the chance to stick up for herself now."
"Why couldn't she just do it?"
"Do you think Cal wouldn't have noticed her disappearance when evidentially you were the last person she was seen with?" Lucy asked, and she knew he wouldn't reply. "She's engaged to him. In that world, that practically makes her his property. Why don't you go and talk to her?"
Tommy put a plate down in front of her, sitting down.
The food was much simpler than that of a first-class breakfast, and for the first time in a long time, Lucy's mouth was watering.
