Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months.
It has been 4 months since I left home.
Aunt Marie and Uncle Terry willingly accepted me as a foster daughter.I threw away my old identity. I completely changed myself.
Everything.
I changed my phone number, my name, and I burned all memories I had with my parents before.
I now go to a different school, different city, different look.
My look.
Dramatically different.
I cut my hair to neck length, colored it bright yellow, and pomades it every single day.I'm no longer a weak and shy Mia.
I'm accepting myself now.
I'm not going down the wrong path, I may not go to church that much anymore, but I'm embracing the me
I've become. This us who I'm meant to be.
This is me."Bree! Time for dinner!", the familiar gentle voice shouted.
I put a smile in my face, glanced into my mirror, and dashed down.
"Smelling good, Ma!"
We had a happy little dinner like how normal family would. Until this moment, Aunt Marie and Uncle Terry had never said a thing about the path I choose to be and not even a thing on my new look.
"How's school?", Uncle said calming our laughters over his ridiculous joke.
"It's fine. I make quite some friends. I'm pretty amazed I should say"
"Well, you shouldn't feel odd out just because you're different. You're just like everybody else! A little more special. And that's it!", Aunt Marie said trying to break the awkwardness of my reply.
I smiled a little and continued eating.
I noticed Auntie and Uncle were exchanging looks. It got really quiet for a moment, until the ring from our old phone cried out."I'll go get it!", Uncle Terry immediately stood up and left the table, picking up the phone.
"Hello?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yes, I'm Terry Underwood.
Excuse me?
Can you repeat that?"I looked at Aunt Marie's worried eyes.
"Alright. I got that. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. Have a good night."
He slowly put down the phone.
Then, he looked at us, specifically, me.
His eyes were dead set on mine.
I was confused but I knew he was shaky."Bree."
The once joy-filled house now falls completely into a cold silence.
"It's your parents."
The snow kept pouring outside the window. The breeze and the chill from the frost struck right into my bones as soon as I heard Uncle's words.
The strong cold wind snuck it's way into the room.*shuts*
The lantern went off.
