The field was littered with thousands of small, beautiful flowers. They were like detailed speckles of colour, sitting in an ocean of nature. The breeze blew by, gently stroking the lush, green leaves in the canopies of the evergreen trees that stood together in a perfect line, bearing apples and pears and cherries and oranges, and just about all types of deliciously juicy fruits. Uvi sat on the small, wooden bench, gently singing to herself. She traced her finger over the intricate patterns that were carved into the dark brown, wooden arms of the bench. They reminded her of the elaborate, beautiful designs on the dresses her mother used to make. Her mother used to stay up, late into the night, working on the soft pieces of fabric, with her needle going up, down, up, down, and making the occasional mutter of pain. She would stay up, working, and tutting, and muttering, until her work was finished.
"Mother, I can't sleep." mumbled the young girl, rubbing her eyes and clutching her little stuffed bunny doll. Her Mother set down her needles and got up.
"Well, that's no good, is it, Uvi? Come with me, my darling, I'll sing you a lullaby, so try to get to bed, okay?" her loving voice gently replied to her daughter. She then, held the little girl's small, pale hand, and walked her back to the little pink bedroom, with the unicorn, and the monkey dolls. But the bunny was always the little girl's favourite. Her mother had made it, just for her, and nothing could replace it. Not the finest, piece of jewellery, nor the most softest, silky dress. So, the young, frightened girl held her bunny tight.
"The monsters in the dark are scary."
"It's okay, Uvi. They're friendly guardians who will protect you from evil. Now sleep, my child, do not worry, you are safe." The little girl rested her small head on the pillow of her bed, hugging her bunny and thinking of the friendliest monsters. Gently, her mother sang a soothing lullaby, and hushed her off to sleep.
"Sleep tight, my little bluebird."Uvi sat up in her chair and closed her eyes, letting the sounds of nature enclose her in her own little world. The bluebird tweeted, singing its sweet song gracefully. Every bird sings its mother's song. Its voice was beautiful; soft like silk, as sweet as honey. Uvi listened for a while, letting the peacefulness fill her, taking away her loneliness. She loved the feeling of peace and safety. Though it would never last long enough, during the time when she felt like that, her heart felt fully whole. Slowly, she opened her eyes. The sun had sunk down, and turned into a bright orange colour, and the sky was a gradient of blue, pink and orange. How long had she been sitting there? It had only felt like a couple of minutes. And yet, the sun had nearly disappeared, making way for the cooling night, which would surely come within the next hour. Uvi silently got up, smiling at the beautiful sight. She truly loved the sunset. Bidding the place farewell, she left for home, though she knew, she would definitely be back very soon.
Every bird sings its mother's song.
