Maxine didn't want this, she would never want to stay here. But she had to. Opening the door slowly, which creaked,  she stepped into her new dorm room, her bag slinged on her left shoulder, the bag weighing her down as she pulled in her black suitcase into the room.
The dorm was small, and the smell of peanuts and sweat lingered in the air. Two twin beds with wooden frames, each had a neatly tuck cover and a fluffed pillow. There was a closet near on the right that was near the door, and one window.
Maxine decided to take the bed that was near the window, for she liked to look out to see the views. She swung off her bag,  carelessly throwing it on the bed, making the bed sheets untucked. Closing the door, she caught her reflection in the closet mirror.
Her auburn hair was frizzy and tangled, her blue eyes were dull, and her skin had turned pale. She remember her mom telling her to always look presentable at the first day. Maxine sighed. Well she did want to look good for her roommate, whoever that's going to be. Pulling out a brush out of her bag, she started to brush her hair. Maxine started to walk around the room, the brush still working it's magic  on her messy hair.
After a few minutes, her hand got tired and placed the brush on her bed, and her hair still frizzy. Maxine's stomach growled for food. She was in such a rush to get to the college that she didn't eat anything. Dang it Maxine! Now your going to starve! Her thoughts said, scowleding her. There was a knock on the door, Maxine quickly sat up, awaiting her roommate. The door opened and an asian girl about her age stepped in with her big suitcase behind her.
"Are you Maxine Baxterstine?" she asked with an accent that sounded Filipino, the girl looking around then looked back at her again.
"Yeah, that's me. The one and only!" Maxine stood up with her arms wide open showing of her oversized black shirt and ripped dirty jeans, greeting her with the best smile she could offer.
The girl grinned with delight, which Maxsine enjoyed seeing. "I'm Baily Amor! Sorry I was a little late, I got lost."
"That's okay, I just got here like . . . Five minutes ago," Maxine said, relieved that Bailey seemed like a nice girl.
"Maxine, I hope you don't mind if I go out to get some breakfast, I didn't get a chance to eat," Bailey said, placing her luggage on the bed.
"Me neither, I was thinking of getting some breakfast, but then you came in."
"Maybe we could get breakfast together? So neither of us will have to starve," Bailey said, "How does IHop sound? You can pick if you don't want IHop. I'm okay with anything."
Maxine didn't want to be rude to Bailey on the first day. Pancakes with that sticky sweet syrup and the juicy fruit on top, she thought, craving it more and more at the thought.
"IHop sounds good, I can drive us there." Maxine held up her keys, shaking it.
The two of them were out on the parking lot of the college, the sun was making it scorching hot, making Maxine regret wearing a black shirt on a summer day.
"Here it is, my car!" Maxine unlocked the door and sat in the driver's seat. Bailey went in the passenger's seat, jumping a bit from the heated leather.
"Don't mine the mess," she said throwing an empty cup on the ground and threw it in the back, her face turning bright pink, wishing she would have cleaned it before driving off to college. Maxine started the engine and backed out of the parking lot and drove off to the location to IHop.
"Maxine, who is this?" Bailey picked up a photo that was on the ground that had some stains. Maxine glanced at the photo that Bailey held up to her. Her grip tightened on the wheel.
The photo showed a man giving a little girl a piggyback ride as she held a red popsicle that dripped. They looked alike. The little girl was her younger self, wearing a blue shirt with a red overall dress, her hair in pigtails. The man had the same eyes and nose as Maxine, his hair was jet black and was everywhere. He looked about only twenty, his skin pale while he had dark circles under his eyes showing how little sleep he gets. The young man wore a red security shirt that was a bit oversize and a hat to complete the outfit. A yellow star patch read 'Rex Baxterstine.' It was her father.
"That's my dad," Maxine told her keeping her eyes on the road. "He use to work as a night guard."
"Where did he work?
Maxine fell silent. It was a sensitive topic she wasn't able to talk to anyone. Not even her mother. Where her dad work was the same place he was-
"The Starry Gang." The words slipped out of her mouth without her realizing it. She couldn't stop herself from saying it.
"What's that?" Bailey said, her eyes still glued on the old picture.
"A pizzaria," Maxine said making a turn to IHop.
"Did it had animatronics?"
"Yeah. Celia the Singing Cyclops, Green boy, Skully the Pirate," Maxine thought of some of the other animatronics, " . . .and Cakarina. Also Mixy and Matchy." Maxine remembered all of them by heart. When she was five, her father always took her to the pizzaria when he had his work shift in the day while her mother was at work.
"Daddy, who is that?" Maxine pointed at an animatronic that had two heads that shared one body. Her, or they, had matching tops that was rainbow glitter that covered their chest and a pink bikini bottom. Their skin was smooth and a milky white.  "That's Mixy," Her father pointed at the left head with green cheeks and a smile. " . . .and over there is Matchy." He pointed at the head with blue cheeks and a frown. "They look weird and scary," she said holding his hand tighter and hid behind his leg in fright. "Their not weird, their just . . .unique! Like every person in this room," Her father said picking her up and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Even you my little Maxine."
The memory made her smile. Remembering that each animatronic was made unique and different.
"So, it's like Freddy Fazbears," Bailey said as Maxine pulled up at IHop and park her car. Maxine looked at Bailey with confusion as she turned off the engine.
"I'm sorry, Like what now?" Maxine stared at Bailey as she got out of the car. As she and Bailey started to head in, Bailey told the lady at the counter for a table of two. The lady lead them to a booth, and when she gave the menus she walked away leaving Maxine and Bailey alone.
"Freddy Fazbear. It was a pizzeria long ago. It also had animatronics, Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica," Bailey said finally as she look at her menu. "Should I go with the meal?"
Maxine looked down at her menu. Freddy Fazbear. Where had she heard it before? It sounded familiar. Her eyes widen when she realized where she heard it from. It was on the news when she was younger. Pulling out her phone the waitress came to their table with a pad and pen ready.
"Hi, I'm Sam. I'll be your waitress this morning. What would you like?" She waited for them to place their order. "I'll have the hashbrown and waffle meal," Bailey said pointing at the menu. "Okay, How about you?" Sam directed the question to Maxine.
"Huh?" Maxine looked up. "Oh! Um . . .I'll have the Fruity pancake with eggs on the side. Scrambled."
"To drink?"
"I'll have coffee," Bailey said as she gave her menu to Sam.
"Same." Maxine held her menu to her as she slipped her phone back in her back pocket.
"Your orders will be out in a few minutes and I'll bring your coffee." Sam walked away from their table and headed into the kitchen.
"Bailey! The Freddy Fazbear place! Wasn't that where the kids got murdered like . . .twenty years ago?" Maxine said leaning closer to Bailey.
"Yeah. That's the one. Your place where your dad worked, 'The Starry Gang,' sounded familiar to me. Now that I think of it, that pizzaria was shut down like Freddy's because of the children that were killed by the animatronics by a malfunction."
Maxine sat back down in her seat. She was confused. Back when she was five the place was open and there was no signs of any accidents.
"H-How though? It wasn't close when I was like . . . born!"
"1983 was when the malfunction happened. My grandpa worked there and saw the first malfunction with Cakarina then the others. I think he saw your father when he was just eight years old," Bailey told Maxine as if she knew it was a touchy subject, which it was. Maxine looked down at her feet. How could a person she just met know all of this when she didn't know anything about the incident.
"The pizzeria reopened in 2000. It's still open till this day. We can check it out," Bailey said smiling, hoping it would cheer Maxine up. "We can maybe even see your father!" Maxine tighten up.
"I can't go back there. I can't," she said her voice shaky. She couldn't dare go back. Bailey's smile faded into concern.
"Why not? Wouldn't you want to see your dad?"
Maxine looked up and stared into Bailey's brown eyes.
"He -" Maxine paused. Why would she tell all of this to someone she just met? Maybe it was because she never got a chance to talk to anyone since the incident that involved her father happened and tell how she felt.
" . . .He was found dead on a nightshift. In the morning, a guard that worked the morning shift found him in the office laying on the floor. His arm was bleeding bad and his skull was broken from something hard that had hit him," Maxine felt the warm tears rolling down her face. Bailey held her hands.
"Maxine. Don't think about it. I'm sorry. I should have not allowed you to tell all of this to me," Bailey said quietly. "We don't have to go if that place gives you . . .unforgettable memories."
Sam came back with their food and coffee. "Here you go girls. Enjoy!" She place the platter of breakfast.
Maxine and Bailey ate in silence. Not speaking a word to one another.
