Elodie's POV
"Shit" I mumble under my breath, turning off my alarm for school. I roll out of bed and start my morning, dreading the fact I have to go to school in just under an hour. I throw on an outfit, do some light makeup, throw my hair up in a ponytail and grab my phone and backpack heading downstairs for breakfast.
"Morning honey" my mom greets me as I walk into the kitchen sporting a bruise on her cheek bone and multiple bruises scattering about on her arms. "Morning" I reply grabbing a pop-tart and and water sitting down and checking my 50 text messages from my best friends.
Seeing my mom with bruises was nothing new to me, they are inflicted by my step dad, Greg. When they first got married after my dad passed he was amazing, taking us out to dinner all the time and blowing his money on anything and everything we desired. Then his dark side came out after a year or so, a whole bottle of tequila didn't help with the punches he would throw and the harsh names he would scream.
My sisters and I would scurry upstairs to our rooms and hide until he passed out in the guest bedroom. No matter how many times he hit my mom or called her names that anyone should never be called, she wouldn't leave him, she quote"loves him".
After responding to all the text messages and catching up on my social media's I put my cup in the dishwasher and throw my wrapper away, giving my mom a hug and kiss on her non-bruised cheek. "MCKENNA..AVERY."TIME TO LEAVE!" I scream up the stairs earning a groan from the both of them while they trudge down the stairs with displeased looks displayed across their faces.
