Making it through with you

CHAPTER FIVE

I burst through the door witnessing Greg beating my mom to a pulp. "STOP!" I scream barreling towards him, swinging at him to get him to stop hurting my mom.SMACK. He slapped me across the face, so hard it threw me to the floor. "YOU BASTARD!" my mom screams, trying to come to my aid. "You're always in my way you little bitch, you and your mom think you run the show, YOU DON'T!" He spits, venom lacing his voice, punching mom in the jaw making her fall and hit her head on the dresser. She dropped like a sack of potatoes,unconscious.

I was terrified, petrified. Greg was physical but it never was this bad, he never laid a hand on my sisters or I. I ran, ran out of their room and straight to mine. I bang on the door begging my sister would open up, "OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR!" I yell, pancaking he might follow me. Avery opens the door, eyes widening when she sees the red mark on my cheek and the waterfall of tears spilling from my eyes.

"We need to leave right now, grab your phones and a charger, lets go. I say walking in to see a terrified Mckenna. "Mom is unconscious." I say lowly, barley audible. "No, she can't be she has to leave with us." Avery says breaking down. "I know..I know." I say holing her, playing with her hair while tears spill out of my eyes. I had to stay strong for the girls ,but it was hard to stay strong when you are just as broken as they are...maybe more. I call Garrett and tell him that my sisters and I need picked up immediately and I will explain later. I was still in shock, so much shock that I didn't even feel the burning sensation on my cheek. I almost didn't recognize myself when i looked in the mirror, I had a bruise forming on my cheek where he slapped me, tear stains and puffy eyes.

My phone buzzes, breaking me out of my daze. From Garrett: 'Out front' . "Let's go girls." I say walking towards the door. They don't respond, they just get up walk out. We get into the car, the car ride was silent aside from the few sniffles here and there. We finally arrive at Garrett's house, walking in the front door to see Keegen, Kara ,Paislee, Sam and Paislee all staring at me with hurt eyes. "Uhh Avery..Mckenna you guys can head to the basement and chill down their if you want." Garrett says. "What happened?." Kara asks, lightly touching my cheek. I wince at the touch, "I'm sorry." she immediately apologizes, "Your fine." I say with a sad smile.

"My step-dad Greg was physical with my mom from time to time, when I would see her with bruises I wouldn't be surprised because it happened so often. If I said anything about it I would get a lecture from Greg or my mom, she wouldn't leave him because she 'loved him'. I always told her that it was bullshit, if he really loved her he wouldn't lay his hands on her. He never laid his hands on the girls or I until today."

The girls had tears falling from their eyes with broken looks on their faces, Garrett and Sam look hurt but pissed. I continue on with the story. "When I got home, I heard a loud thud from upstairs so I ran up there to see what happened and I saw Avery holding Mckenna, who had a bright red cheek. To say i was pissed was an understatement, I bursted into my mom's room and say that he was beating the crap out of her so I intervened and he slapped me, when my mom tried to step in and come to my side he punched her in the jaw and she hit her head on the dresser knocking her unconscious."

By the time I finished telling them what happened I was bawling uncontrollably. "I'm gonna kill that dickhead who calls himself a man." Garrett says with balled fists, walking towards the door. "I'm coming too." Sam says, just as mad.

"Sam no!" I yell as they closed the door behind them.
