Neku's POV

"A pact!? With who!?"

I looked around, but I couldn't see anything before I was thrown into a battle roughly. 

I could hear the small giggles of someone as I used my psychs to take down the Noise that tried to attack me earlier. The weak frogs were gone in mere moments, seeing as my pins had evolved as much as they could in the last week. As the battle area faded back into the UG, I looked around again.

"Howdy."

I jumped as I heard someone speak up. Looking over quickly, I was quick to notice the male that was smirking deviously at my reaction to his sudden appearance.

'Who the-'

"The name's Yoshiya Kiryu, but Mother and Father call me Joshua." 

Don't tell me...

Please don't tell me-

"I guess you can call me Joshua too, seeing as how you're my dear, dear partner."

"You're WHAT?!"

Oh no. No no no no no no no. NO.

"You seemed like such a pro at this, I just... helped myself."

Wait....

"A pro? How could you know that?"

To this, Joshua just flipped his bangs from his eyes. "I've been watching you, silly. Very impressive, by the way."

Is he gay or something?

Not that I'm-

No Neku stop thinking like that just no stop-

"Today's the first day and all... Let's just take it easy, hmm? Why don't you start by giving the area a scan, partner?" Joshua looked me directly in the eyes. I quickly turned away, uncomfortable with the sudden gaze.

"F-Fine."

Grasping my Player pin tightly in my hand, I searched for any Noise. None were there, seemingly having decided that since there weren't any partnerless players they had no reason to be around. I scanned the area, but it all seemed sile-

Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow-

I was barely able to register my knees hitting pavement as my head began to throb with pain. 

Joshua's POV

"Neku?!"

My usual false sarcastic and cynical persona was cast aside as Neku collapsed onto his knees, clawing at his head. I knelt down in front of him, at a complete loss for what to do. What happened?!

Not even three seconds later, Neku collapsed forwards into me. I panicked, holding him up. "Neku?! Neku, wake up!"

This isn't good... This isn't supposed to happen!

I lowered Neku to the ground, then picked him up carefully. We don't have much time left to complete this mission... I'm not letting him get Erased. He was surprisingly light (actually, way too light for his age...), so I had no issue with carrying him towards the Scramble Crossing.
