PURPOSE OF THE PORTFOLIO
A portfolio is a purposeful of student work that exhibits the student's effort, progress and achievement in one or more areas of curriculum. The collections must include the following:
Ø Student participation in selecting contents
Ø Criteria for selection
Ø Criteria for judging merits
Ø Criteria of a student's self-reflection
It should represent a collection of student's best work or efforts student- selected samples of work experiences related to outcomes being assessed, and documents according growth and development toward mastering identified outcomes. Instructor can use them for variety or specific purposes including:
Ø Encouraging self-directed learning
Ø Enlarging the view of what is learned
Ø Fastening learning about learning
Ø Demonstrating progress toward identified outcomes
Ø Creating an inter section for instruction and assessment
Ø Providing a way for student to value themselves as learner
Ø Offering opportunities for peer-supported growth.
