Roommates

-chapter five-

Oli's P.O.V
I was at Jake's apartment playing video games with him when there was a knock at the door. Jake went and answered and brought his girlfriend, Becky, through.

"Oli, this is Becky."

I paused the game to walk over and shake her hand. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too," she beamed. "Jake's told me a lot about you."

"And now I'm afraid," I said.

Becky chortled and smacked my arm playfully. "All good things! What are you two up to?"

"Just hanging out," Jake says.

"Can I join?"

"Sure thing." Jake puts an arm around Becky's shoulders and we sit down on the couch together. I hand Becky my controller to let her have a shot and pull my phone out of my pocket.

Me: Hey

Charlotte: Hi :)

Me: What are you up to?

Charlotte: Okay, stop with the small talk

Me: I'm so happy you said that. I hate it.

Charlotte: I do too. You're at Jake's, right?

Me: Yeah. Currently being a third wheel :(

Charlotte: Hahaha. Well from what Jake's told me that isn't unusual

Me: Never trust anything Jake tells you

Charlotte: Too late ;P

Me: Gahhhh

"Oli, it's your shot," Jake says, getting my attention by waving a hand in front of my face.

"Okay." He hands me his controller and I play Super Mario Bros with Becky. She's pretty good at it so I'm guessing she either learns quick or has played before.

I die and pass my controller back to Jake. I reach for my phone but Jake stops me.

"Come on, dude. I know you're in this weird flirty relationship with Charlotte but could you try to make conversation, please?"

I leave my phone. "Alright, sorry."

"Thanks."

Jake dies and chucks the controller in my direction. I catch it and he gets up to go to the bathroom.

"Do you know what's up with him?" I ask Becky.

"I don't know. He kept going on about some girl named Charlotte before and how you only think about her nowadays."

I roll my eyes. "Jake is being ridiculous."

"Who is Charlotte?"

"She's my roommate," I explain. "Jake seems hung up on the idea that we're both in love with each other but won't admit it or something."

"Was she the one you were texting?" Becky asks.

"Yeah."
