It was late in the afternoon when I returned to the attic, what I could call my room now. When Hoseok left the cafe, Jin ended up telling more about himself. He also told me that I could stay as long as I wanted to. After a while I had asked him why he was so generous and caring. He just simply pulled up his broad shoulders.
"I have a feeling that things are gonna changes now you're here. In a good way," he told me. I think he was talking more to himself then to me but I was glad that I had a place to stay. Slowly I opened the wooden door and frowned when I felt like something was missing.
My cat. I ran into my room and looked under the bed, behind the curtains and under the white bedsheets. But the cat was nowhere to be found.
I started to panic since the cat was all I had left from my mother. She gave me him before she disappeared. I ran out of the room and almost fell down the stairs as I ran over it. Looking through the cafe I couldn't help but feel helpless. I searched for Jin who was in the kitchen making new cupcakes.
I took a deep breath and knocked against the doorframe. He quickly turned around and almost threw a fresh baked cupcake to me.
'Oh, Hyeri you startled me,' he squeaked out leaning against the kitchen counter, letting out a big breath. I would have laughed if I didn't just had lost the only being that I could trust with all my heart.
'Jin, I want to go out for a walk for a bit, is that, okay? I- I want to clear my mind,' I asked him. He was quiet for a bit.
'Sure. No need to ask me. Would you like me to come with you?' He proposed. I shook my head. I immediately felt bad for lying to him and apologized.
'I'm sorry. I would like to but-' he smiled and turned around while shook it of.
'I get it. You need some time alone,' he said. 'Just don't be gone for to long. It's dangerous when it gets dark, especially for a young woman like you.'
I swallowed and bowed quickly. He groaned in annoyance.
'I told you to stop the bowing and sorry's,' he whined before he turned his back to me and started to decorate the cupcakes. 'Women.'
I ran out of the kitchen and ran through the narrow streets of the small village.
I looked everywhere I could but didn't found the cat anywhere. At one moment I found myself at the edge of a forest. A path of gravel disappearing in the forest.
I got over my fears of the unknown forest and stepped on the gravel which scraped painfully against the bottom of my feet. That's when I came to the realization I didn't put my shoes on before I left Jin's cafe.
I stepped further in the forest, following paths of gravel until I went of it for a while and stood still. I ended up being lost.
Not even a second later and I heard someone whistle a familiar song. I just didn't know where I recognized it from.
I decided to follow the whistle. At first I didn't see anything. But when I looked a little longer I saw a blond haired man sitting behind a huge tree. I walked around the tree and gasped softly.
My cat.
The guy was holding my cat and brought it to his face. Smiling like it was the cutest thing he had ever seen.
'Excuse me?' I said softly. He didn't hear me, so I thought. I bit in my cheek and tried it again. This time a little bit harder.
'Excuse me?' The calico cat jumped out of his hands and ran to me. I picked him up and hugged it against my chest, stress falling of my shoulders and feeling relieved immediately.
The man who was still sitting on the ground leaned back against the enormous tree behind him and tilted his head to the side. He didn't say anything just stared at me. His silky hair slightly moving to the sides of his forehead because of a gust of wind. His dark eyes that were staring straight into mine were shining in the dim moonlight, making him even more mysterious.
I frowned and uncomfortably cleared my throat before I spoke again.
'Is there something wrong?' I asked confused. The stranger didn't say a word and stood up. I swallowed and stood a step back.
'Who are you?' But of course he kept quiet. Before I could ask him again he turned his head to the side as if he had heard something. He gave me one last glance before he turned around and ran away.
'Wait I'm-' But within a blink he was gone. 'lost...' I sighed, looked up to the sky and saw it was already dark. Great. Just amazing. The words of Jin came creeping back into my mind. 'Just don't be gone for to long. It's dangerous when it gets dark.'
I didn't dare to wander further into the now dark forest. In daylight it looked beautiful but now it gave me the creeps. Sleepily I sat down against the tree where the stranger sat just a minute ago. My eyes wandered to the spot where that strange guy was looking at. 'I wonder what he heard.'
A half hour went by when the cat in my hands started to hiss and claw in the direction I was looking at. I stood up and hid behind the tree. But when the person shouted my name again it sounded somehow familiar.
'Hyeri!' Running footsteps where coming my way but I still hid behind the tree. Scared that it wasn't him.
H-hoseok? I slowly stepped away from the tree when I saw him running towards me.
'Thank god your fine. We were looking everywhere for you! Jin would kill me if I wouldn't find you. Are you okay?' he said out of breath. They actually where looking for me? Why was Jin so eager to find me?
'Well?' He asked while taking a deep breath in. I clutched the cat in my arms and calmed it down. Hoseok looked at the cat and pulled up his upper lip. Probably didn't like cats either.
'You went out with no shoes on, got lost in a dark, dangerous forest... for that?' He pointed at the cat and wrinkled his nose. Glaring at the cat as if it was his worst enemy.
It was quiet for a while. 'I'm fine,' I whispered. A cold breeze hit my back. Hoseok seemed to notice it and smiled. 'Come on. I'll bring you home.' He pulled at my dress and began to walk.
'W-what about Jin?'
'He'll come home eventually.' I nodded and let him pull me out of the forest. Before we left the enormous tree I turned my head to where the stranger had left.
