plot/summary: sammy lives alone in new york. she ran away months ago, no longer being able to take it in her hometown. she sings and plays guitar on the side of the street for money. when oliver comes to town, he offers her a place to stay. she goes from sleeping on his couch to sleeping next to him.
conflict/drama: sammy's ex (see below for character details) finds her, resulting in him and oliver fighting and oliver having to protect sammy.
sammy can't find a job to help pay bills, which briefly frustrates oliver.
oliver doesn't understand what it's like to have it bad at home, and so sammy is angered by his ignorance of her situation.
