They were getting close...Mikoto could tell. With each step she took, the key she wore around her neck grew heavier and heavier. The black key she had obtained in Edolas...the key that was supposed to open the Gate of Entry, it felt like a 100pound weight around her neck...and it was getting heavier.
"Mikoto..you should let me carry it." said Lucy. "You already look exhausted."
"It's alright." said Mikoto. "I can manage."
Truth be told, Mikoto had a much more personal reason for not letting the others carry the key. They were already coming with her to share in her death...she didn't need them to share any more hardship then that...this was her burden to bear.
"I can see the beach.." Mikoto said as she peered into the distance. "We really are almost there."
"Look." said Natsu. "What's that?"
Mikoto narrowed her eyes and saw something glowing with a golden light in the darkness of the twilight. It seemed to shine even brighter then the setting sun, it's golden light letting off an ethereal aura.
It was a massive gate which seemed to be made of golden light...if Mikoto had to guess at it's size, she would've said it was probably the size of the Windowless Building back in Academy City.
"That gate..it has to be ginormous." said Saiai. "Super ginormous!"
"Thank goodness." said Loke. "This lady here is getting heavy."
"See?" said Elli. "Everything's turning out fine! We'll definitely make it!"
Mikoto stopped in her tracks. A trickle of fear seemed to cross her face. "He's here..."
"Whose here?" said Shizuri looking taken aback by Mikoto's sudden expression. "What?"
Mikoto spoke slowly and clearly so that everyone could hear. "No sudden movements...the moment I tell you guys...run...run as fast as you can..and don't look back."
There was a pause. A beade of sweat traveled down Lucy's brow as Natsu gritted his teeth nervously.
"Mikoto.." said Natsu. "What is it?"
"I've felt this magic before." said Mikoto slowly. "And right now...I'm hoping he won't notice us..."
"It's that one isn't it?" Shizuri said."The one you warned us about..the one you said we couldn't fight."
Mikoto nodded.
"Dang.." said Shiage.
Another long pause...then..
"RUN!!!!" Mikoto yelled and the entire group broke into a fast sprint across the grass, thinking only of making it to the coast alive.
We have to make it...we have to make it...we have to make it..we have to make it.. Mikoto thought this repeatidly in her head over and over, praying that what her mind said was true, that they would make it.
But of course, at the moment her luck was worse then Touma's.
The ground suddenly shook as a ripple seemed through time and space itself and a hulking armored figure appeared before the group.
Diablo Etwatia pointed a finger at Mikoto and immediately an explosion of dark molten energy explode right in the middle of the group. The explosion grew larger and larger, spreading out for over a 120 meter radius.
Mikoto opened her eyes...she felt pain all over...all over except for one spot..
Coughing up dust and shakily crawling to a sitting position Mikoto looked down and saw a horrid sight. Her right leg had been completely blasted off.
