man. gotta hate those cliffhanger endings, huh?
so, i suppose this deserves an explanation.
not long after undertale came out, i started this fanfiction, a three-part series, mostly because i really liked gaster and liked two theories involving him: one where he was the skeleton brothers (who arguably are my favorite characters), and one where he had actually been two font twins in a trench coat (aka, wingdings and aster). i combined the two and made this story, which arguably became very complicated and confusing very quickly, but it was fun to write and i enjoyed the world i'd made and the interpretations of the characters. anyone who i've talked to when this fic was ongoing knows how attached i was (and still am) to wingdings and aster specifically, who to this day i still refer to as "my boys" or "my sons" just because i love them so much.
but then, the discourse in the fandom became too much for me. the in-fighting and bickering and arguing over character interpretations, over ships, over au's--people were chopping at the bits to ruin someone's day when it came to character's like chara and gaster. two characters who, unfortunately, are very problematic in my fic, and would only become more-so in the third part.
so, the third part wasn't written. and it never will be.
to put it simply, i've already faced harassment in this fandom over chara. i can no longer enjoy their character or writing them, can barely even draw them anymore, because of the "chara defense squad," as they call themselves. now don't get me wrong, i don't mind fluffy happy interps of chara, and i don't think they're wrong--i just don't see it as canon--but the amount of people who go out of their way to ruin someone's liking for a game over a few headcanons is appalling, especially when it comes to a character as vague and subjective as chara.
to be fair, though, that's not the only reason i discontinued the third part of HAZE. another reason was, well, i felt i was ready to move on.
i've been in this fandom since the beginning; got into the game in october of 2015, and have been obsessed ever since. spending so much of my time and effort on a fanfiction, especially one i knew i wouldn't be profitting off of and that wasn't getting a whole lot of reads, it really discouraged me from finishing it. by the time i wrote the last chapter of RESPONSUM, i was exhausted and stressed out of my mind.
so i called it quits, and that's why the ending is so abrupt and open-ended.
i feel it fits that way, too. people can make up their own ending for it, that way; did wingdings and aster defeat gaster? did gaster succeed in its plans and return to the real world? did everyone die? did everyone survive? did frisk reset, or something similar to it? though i have my own thoughts on the end, i'm sure other people do, too, and i think that's just fine. it's more fun that way :)
on another note, i've contacted toby recently and he's given me permission to make an original adaptation of this fic, which is called In the Eyes of None. though it has some similarities, those that have read the first draft (i had to start over, so it's in a second draft stage now) have told me it's very different from the fic, so i'm pretty excited to show everyone Reed and Verdella and the kind of trouble they get into. i think people will really like them, maybe even as much as i do and more!
anyways, i've rambled for far too long, here. now you know why the ending is the way it is, why it wont be continued, and about the original story i'm working on.
i hope you liked HAZE! if you liked it, feel free to check out my other stuff (or don't; that's fine too) and check out ITEON when it comes out!!
see ya around!
