the boy rummaged through his papers,
sighing a sigh of defeat while his study guide magically disappeared.
"dammit."
he laid himself of his floor,
closing his eyes will the record player playing music
bounced off his walls.
the thought of the girl brought a stinging pain to his heart,
and a knot to his stomach.
he wished he could erase her from his memory,
like they had never met.
"knock knock."
nancy peeped from behind the door,
smiling a small smile.
"dinners ready."
she continued,
looking at a pitiful brother.
when mike didn't reply,
she sighed,
"it's been two years, mike. you're older now. stop worrying about her. we..we all miss her, okay?"
he rolled his eyes at the words that left his sisters mouth.
"y/n? i'm over it. she's dead to me."
***
"psst. what's number four?"
the boy spoke barely above a whisper to the chem partner next to him.
"uranium."
he mumbled back,
reverting his eyes back to his quiz.
"helium, gold, uranium.."
mike trailed off,
clutching the pencil between his fingers.
"number fifteen is carbon."
the girl behind him whispered,
smiling a bright smile while her quiz laid done in the neat handwriting.
he turned his head around slowly,
mumbling a small thank you.
and the rest of class continued that way.
she whispered answers,
and he whispered back thank you's.
although mike didn't see,
the girl behind him with the blonde hair bit her bottom lip,
with only one idea in mind.
to date mike well before y/n returned.
***
mike laughed as he tapped his feet against the bleachers,
nodding his head in agreement while his new friend talked.
jupiter.
her name was jupiter.
jupiter was similar to y/n.
her laugh echoed like y/n's,
her bright smile shined like y/n's,
that colorful imagination,
the same goofy sense of humor.
the comparison was almost too similar.
it was as if y/n was right here with him again.
"you ever had a girlfriend, mike?"
jupiter asked suddenly,
running her hands through her silky hair.
mike grew hesitant,
rubbing the back of his neck.
"me? nah. never."
jupiter smiled a hazy smile,
nodding her head.
"perhaps i could be your first, no?"
he perked his head up,
smiling brightly.
he'd be dating the most beautiful girl in school.

jupiter knew about y/n.
and how in love mike and her were.
how could she forget?
jupiter was y/n's best friend, after all.
***
mike laid on his bed,
his feet resting against his headboard.
he smiled a true happy smile.
the first one in two years.
"mike!"
nancy's voice echoed throughout the house,
scaring mike.
he shot up quickly,
rolling his eyes.
"what?"
"you might wanna come down here!"
curiosity rose in the back of his mind.
is jupiter here?
i had only left her about forty five minutes ago.
maybe i left my coat.
mike trailed down the staircase,
his heart skipping serval beats once he met the figure behind the door.
feeling like he was staring death in the eye.
"oh, mike!"
she exasperated,
dropping her luggage to grasp him in her arms.
he couldn't move.
his body stayed frozen in place.
"y/n.."
